गले वसनमादाय प्रणनाम स तापसम् 3.2.29.
Taking the cloth from his neck, he bowed to the ascetic.
देवदेवोऽथवा कोऽपि न जाने तव विक्रमम्
O lord of gods, or whoever you are, I do not know your power.
त्यज मौढ्यमति साधो प्रवादं मा वृथा कृथाः
Abandon foolishness, O virtuous one; do not utter vain words.
इति विज्ञापितः साधुर्न बुबोध महाधनः
Thus informed, the virtuous man did not comprehend the great wealth.
चंद्रचूडो यदानर्च सत्यनारायणं नृपः
When Candracūḍa, the king, worshipped Satyanarayana,
प्रार्थितं न स्मृतं ह्येव इदानीं तप्यसे वृथा
What was requested was not remembered; now you suffer in vain.
तमनादृत्य दुर्बुद्धे कुतः सम्यग्भवेत्तव
Neglecting him, O misguided one, how can you attain what is right?
सत्यनारायणं देवं तापसं तं ददर्श ह तुष्टाव तापसं तत्र साधुर्गद्गदया गिरा
The virtuous man saw the ascetic as Satyanarayana, and there praised him with faltering speech.
यत्सत्यत्वेन जगतस्तं सत्यं त्वां नमाम्यहम्
You, who are the truth of the universe, I bow to you, the truth.
त्वन्मायामोहितात्मानो न पश्यंत्यात्मनः शुभम्
Those whose minds are deluded by your maya do not perceive their own auspiciousness.
मूढोहं धनगर्वेण मदांधीकृतलोचनः 3.2.29.
I am foolish, blinded by pride in wealth, my eyes clouded by intoxication.
क्षमस्व मम दौरात्म्यं तपो धाम्ने हरे नमः
Forgive my wickedness; O abode of austerity, O Hari, I bow to you.
इति स्तुत्वा लक्षमुद्राः स्थापिताः स्वपुरोधसि
Having thus praised, he placed laksha coins before his priest.
तुष्टो नारायणः प्राह वांछा पूर्णा भवेत्तु ते अंते सांनिध्यमासाद्य मोदसे त्वं मया सह
Satisfied, Narayana spoke: 'May your wishes be fulfilled. At the end, attaining my presence, you will rejoice with me.'
इत्युक्त्वान्तर्दधे विष्णुः साधुश्च स्वाश्रमं ययौ
Having spoken thus, Vishnu disappeared, and the virtuous one returned to his hermitage.
आगत्य नगराभ्याशे प्राहि णोद्द्रुतमाश्रमम्
Arriving near the city, he quickly sent the hermitage.
जामात्रा सहितः साधुः कृतकृत्यः समागतः
The virtuous one, accompanied by his son-in-law, having accomplished his purpose, arrived.
पूजाभारं सुतायै सा दत्त्वा नौकांतिकं ययौ
She gave the burden of worship to her daughter and went to the boat's edge.
कलावती त्ववज्ञाय प्रसादं सत्वरा ययौ
Kalavati, disregarding the grace, quickly went.
अवज्ञानात्प्रसादस्य नौकाशंखपतेरथ
Because of the disregard for grace, then the boat's captain—
मग्नं जामातरं पश्यन्विललाप स मूर्च्छितः 3.2.29.
Seeing his son-in-law submerged, he lamented, unconscious.
ततः कलावती दृष्ट्वा पपात भुवि मूर्च्छिता
Then Kalavati, seeing this, fell to the ground, unconscious.
हा नाथ प्रिय धर्मज्ञ करुणाकरकौशल पत्युरर्द्धं गतं कस्मादर्द्धांगं जीवनं कथम्
Alas, O master, beloved, knower of dharma, skillful in compassion, why has half of my husband gone? How can half a body live?
सरोजनेत्रांबुकणान्विमुंचती मुक्तावलीभिस्तनकुड्मलांचिता
She, with lotus eyes, released drops of water, adorned with strings of pearls and buds.
हा सत्यनारायण सत्यसिंधो मग्नं हि मामु द्धर तद्वियोगे
Alas, O Satyanarayana, ocean of truth, lift me up, for I am submerged in separation.
साधो कलावती क्षिप्रं मत्प्रसादं हि भोजयेत्
O virtuous one, let Kalavati quickly offer my grace.
इत्याकाशे वचः श्रुत्वा विस्मिता तच्चकार सा
Hearing these words in the sky, she was astonished and did as instructed.
तत्रैव साधुः साह्लादो भक्त्या परमया युतः
There, the holy man was filled with great joy, endowed with supreme devotion.
तेन व्रतप्रभावेन पुत्रपौत्रसमन्वितः
By the power of that vow, he was surrounded by sons and grandsons.
इतिहासमिमं भक्त्या शृणुयाद्यो हि मानवः
Whoever among men listens to this history with devotion,
