दद्याच्च यः परमभक्तियुतः सुराणां घण्टावितानवरचामरमातपत्रम्
And whoever, with supreme devotion, gives bells, canopies, whisks, and parasols to the gods—
अभ्यर्चयेत्प्रतिवचः कुसुमैर्विचित्रैर्देवाधिदेवपरिसंस्तुतपादपद्मान्
And worships, in turn, the lotus feet of the Lord of gods, praised by all the gods, with various beautiful flowers—
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराण उत्तरपर्वणि श्रीकृष्णयुधिष्ठिरसंवादे देवपूजाविधिवर्णनं नामैकोनत्रिंशदुत्तरशतत मोऽध्यायः
Thus, in the glorious Bhavishya Mahapurana, in the Uttaraparvan, in the dialogue between Shri Krishna and Yudhishthira, this is the one hundred and twenty-ninth chapter, entitled 'Description of the Method of Worshipping the Gods.'
दीपदानविधिवर्णनम् दानेन केन वा लोके प्रोज्ज्वल्त्वं प्रजायते
Description of the method of giving lamps: By what kind of gift in this world does one attain radiance?
अतितेजो महद्दीप्तं दीप्तांशुकिरणोज्ज्वलम्
A brilliance of great splendor, shining with blazing rays, arises.
आगतः स च मे पत्न्या जाम्बवत्या प्रपूजितः
He came, and my wife Jambavati honored him properly.
प्रष्टश्च प्रश्रमेवैतं स चावोचद्यथातथम्
He was questioned with due effort, and he spoke the truth as it was.
यदायदा नृपश्रेष्ठ पुण्यकालः प्रपद्यते
Whenever, O best of kings, an auspicious time arrives,
उत्तरे त्वयने प्राप्ते दक्षिणे विषुवे तथा
When the sun turns northward, or southward, or at the equinox,
सप्तम्यामथ वाष्टम्यां स्नात्वा व्रतपरो नरः घृतकुंभेन दीपेन प्रज्वलंतं प्रदीपकम्
On the seventh or eighth day, after bathing and observing vows, a person should offer a blazing lamp with a pot of ghee.
किमेतत्कौतुकं मेऽस्ति संशयं छेत्तुमर्हसि
What is this wonder that I have? You should dispel my doubt.
स स्वर्गं गन्तुकामोऽभूच्छरीरेण नरोत्तम
Desiring to go to heaven with his body, that best of men,
त्रिशंकुः सर्वमाचख्यौ विश्वामित्राय धीमते 4.130.
Trishanku told everything to the wise Vishvamitra.
न ता हविः प्रत्यगृह्णंस्ततः क्रुद्धः कुशात्मजः
But I did not accept that offering; therefore, the son of Kusha became angry.
शृंगाटका न्नालिकेरान्पचनानानजौडकान्
He created śṛṅgāṭaka trees, coconut palms, various kinds of rice, and jaudaka grains.
उष्ट्रान्मनुजदेवांश्च क्रोधान्मुनिरवासृजत्
In his anger, the sage also created camels, human gods, and others.
ततः शक्रः समागम्य विश्वामित्रं प्रसाद्य वै
Then Indra came and, appeasing Vishvamitra, sought his favor.
मर्त्य लोके च ते सर्वे देवा देवकुलेष्वथ
In the world of mortals, all those gods dwell in the temples of the gods.
ब्रह्मा विष्णुस्तथा रुद्रो ये चान्ये देवतागणाः
Brahma, Vishnu, Rudra, and all the other hosts of deities,
प्रतिमासु स्थिताः शश्वद्भोगान्भुञ्जति शाश्वतान्
Remain always in the images, enjoying eternal pleasures.
सूर्याय रक्तवस्त्रेण पूर्णवर्तिं घृतैर्युताम्
To the Sun, offer a lamp with a full wick, wrapped in red cloth and filled with ghee.
तद्वि ष्णोः परमं पदं सदा पश्यंति सूरयः
The wise always behold that supreme abode of Vishnu.
पीतवस्त्रेण कृष्णाय श्वेतवस्त्रेण शूलिने 4.130.
To Krishna, offer with yellow cloth; to Shiva, with white cloth.
वर्ति लाक्षारक्तेन दुर्गायै पूर्णवर्ति प्रबोधयेत्

नागेभ्यः कृष्णवस्त्रेण ग्रहेभ्य इषिका युधाम्
To the serpents, use black cloth; for the planets, offer arrows as weapons.
विशेषं शृणु सूर्याय पूर्णवर्तिर्निगद्यते

अग्रे त्वां काम्यया गिरा तुभ्यं ता गिरसस्तु विश्वाः
Before you, with a wishful word, may all those words be for you.
