इत्येवं भूपतिश्चैव विप्ररूपेण बोधितः 3.2.29.
Thus the king was awakened by the brāhmaṇa in this way.
विस्मितः सहसोत्थाय दध्यौ ब्रह्म सनातनम्
Astonished, he quickly rose and contemplated the eternal Brahman.
महामन्त्री च भूपालं प्राह सत्येन भो द्विज अतस्तौ हि समानीय संपृच्छ विधिवन्नृप
The chief minister addressed the king, 'O brāhmaṇa, bring those two here and question them properly, O king.'
आनीय साधुं पप्रच्छ सत्यमालंब्य भूपतिः
Having brought the virtuous one, the king questioned him, relying on the truth.
वाणिज्यार्थं महाराज वाणिज्यं जीविकावयोः
For the sake of trade, O great king, we both live by commerce.
मणिमुक्तादि विक्रेतुं क्रेतुं वा तव पत्तने
To sell or buy gems and pearls in your city.
प्रतिकूले विधौ को वा दशां नाप्नोति वै पुमान्
Who among men does not experience misfortune when fate is adverse?
आवां न चौरो राजेंद्र तत्त्वतस्त्वं विचारय
We are not thieves, O king; consider the truth yourself.
छेदयित्वा दृढं पाशं लोमशातिमकारयत्
Having cut the strong bonds, he freed Lomaśa.
नगरे पूजयामास वस्त्राभूषणवाहनैः
In the city, he was honored with garments, ornaments, and vehicles.
कारागारे बहुविधं प्राप्तं दुःखमतः परम् 3.2.29.
In the prison, many kinds of suffering were endured thereafter.
श्रुत्वा साधुवचो राजा प्राह कोशाधिकारिणम्
Hearing the words of the virtuous, the king addressed the treasurer.
जामात्रा सहितः साधुर्गीतवादित्रमंगलैः
Together with his brother-in-law, the virtuous man performed with songs, instruments, and auspicious rites.
सत्यनारायणो देवः प्रत्यक्षफलदः कलौ
Lord Satyanarayana grants visible results in the age of Kali.
प्रत्युत्तरमदात्साधुः क्षिप नौकाश्च सत्वरम्
The virtuous man gave a reply: 'Quickly send the boats.'
भोः स्वामिन्मे धनं नास्ति लतापत्रादिपूरितम्
O master, I have no wealth; only leaves and such fill my stores.
इत्युक्तस्तापसः प्राह तथास्त्विति वचः क्षणात्
Thus addressed, the ascetic said, 'So be it,' and spoke these words at once.
धनं नौकासु नास्तीति साधुश्चिंतातुरोऽभवत्
There is no wealth in the boats; the virtuous man became anxious.
वज्रपाताहत इव भृशं दुःखितमानसः
His mind was greatly distressed, as if struck by a thunderbolt.
इति मूर्छागतः साधुर्विललाप पुनःपुनः
Thus, overcome by faintness, the virtuous man lamented again and again.
गले वसनमादाय प्रणनाम स तापसम् 3.2.29.
Taking the cloth from his neck, he bowed to the ascetic.
देवदेवोऽथवा कोऽपि न जाने तव विक्रमम्
O lord of gods, or whoever you are, I do not know your power.
त्यज मौढ्यमति साधो प्रवादं मा वृथा कृथाः
Abandon foolishness, O virtuous one; do not utter vain words.
इति विज्ञापितः साधुर्न बुबोध महाधनः
Thus informed, the virtuous man did not comprehend the great wealth.
चंद्रचूडो यदानर्च सत्यनारायणं नृपः
When Candracūḍa, the king, worshipped Satyanarayana,
प्रार्थितं न स्मृतं ह्येव इदानीं तप्यसे वृथा
What was requested was not remembered; now you suffer in vain.
तमनादृत्य दुर्बुद्धे कुतः सम्यग्भवेत्तव
Neglecting him, O misguided one, how can you attain what is right?
सत्यनारायणं देवं तापसं तं ददर्श ह तुष्टाव तापसं तत्र साधुर्गद्गदया गिरा
The virtuous man saw the ascetic as Satyanarayana, and there praised him with faltering speech.
यत्सत्यत्वेन जगतस्तं सत्यं त्वां नमाम्यहम्
You, who are the truth of the universe, I bow to you, the truth.
त्वन्मायामोहितात्मानो न पश्यंत्यात्मनः शुभम्
Those whose minds are deluded by your maya do not perceive their own auspiciousness.
