देवमंडलवत्कार्यं द्वितीयं मंडलं शुभम्
The second maṇḍala, auspicious, should be arranged like the divine maṇḍala.
श्वेतवस्त्रैश्च संछन्ना श्वेतगंधानुलेपिता 4.124.
Covered with white garments and anointed with white fragrance.
अभिषिंचेत्ततश्चैव नामर्कपत्रपुटांबुना
Then, one should sprinkle with water from the nāma leaf vessel.
शतानि सप्तपर्णानां चतुर्भिरधिकानि तु
There should be one hundred and four leaves of the saptaparṇa tree.
अश्वस्थानाद्गजस्थानाद्वल्मीकात्संगमाद्ह्रदात्
From the places of horses, elephants, anthills, confluences, and lakes.
सर्वौषधिं रोचनां च नदीतीर्थोदकानि च
All medicinal herbs, rocanā, and waters from river holy places.
आपादतलकेशं च कुक्षी चैव विशेषतः
From the soles of the feet to the hair, and especially the abdomen.
रुद्राभिजप्तेन ततः स्नापयेत्कलशेन ताम्
Then, she should be bathed with a pot using water recited over with Rudra hymns.
सर्वतोदिक्स्थितैः पश्चात्स्नापयेत्सफलाक्षतैः
Afterwards, she should be bathed with fruits and unbroken rice placed in all directions.
हेतुरप्यत्र निर्दिष्टा दक्षिणा गौः पयस्विनी
The prescribed cause here is a southern cow that gives milk.
गोवत्सकाञ्चनादीनि दत्त्वा सर्वं क्षमापयेत्
After giving a calf, gold, and other items, one should ask forgiveness for all.
सुभगा सुखसंयुक्ता बहुपुत्रा च जायते 4.124.
She becomes fortunate, endowed with happiness, and bears many children.
तस्मादवश्यं कर्तव्यं पुत्रश्रीसुखमिच्छता
Therefore, it must be performed by one desiring children, prosperity, and happiness.
या स्नानमाचरति रुद्रमिति प्रसिद्धं श्रद्धान्विता द्विजवरानुमताऽऽनताङ्गी
She who performs the bath known as Rudra, with faith, approved by the best twice-born, and with bowed limbs.
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराण उत्तरपर्वणि श्रीकृष्णयुधिष्ठिरसंवादे रुद्रस्नानविधिवर्णनं नाम चतुर्विंशत्युत्तरशततमोऽध्यायः
Thus, in the glorious Bhavishya Mahapurana, in the Uttaraparva, in the dialogue between Śrī Kṛṣṇa and Yudhiṣṭhira, is the description of the rite of Rudra bath, the one hundred and twenty-fourth chapter.
चन्द्रादित्यग्रहणस्नानविधिवर्णनम् तदहं श्रोतुमिच्छामि द्रव्यमन्नं प्रधानतः
The description of the rite of bathing during lunar and solar eclipses.
तस्य स्नानं प्रवक्ष्यामि मंत्रौषधिसमन्वितम्
I shall now describe that bath, accompanied by mantras and medicinal herbs.
चन्द्रोपरागं संप्राप्य कृत्वा ब्राह्मणवाचनम्
When a lunar eclipse occurs, having performed the recitation by a Brahmin—
पूर्वमेवोपरागस्य समानीयौषधादिकम्
Before the eclipse, one must gather the necessary herbs and related items.
गजाश्वरथ्यावल्मीकसङ्गमाद्ध्रदगोकुलात्
From the meeting of elephant and horse paths, from anthills, from lakes, and from cow pastures—
पंचगव्यं च कुंभेषु पंचरत्नानि चैव हि
Pañcagavya in pots, and indeed the five gems as well—
स्फटिकं चन्दनं श्वेतं तीर्थवारिससर्षपम् एतत्सर्वं विनिक्षिप्य कुम्भेष्वावाहयेत्सुरान्
Crystal, white sandalwood, sacred water, and mustard seeds—placing all these in the pots, one should invoke the gods.
सर्वे समुद्राः सरितस्तीर्थानि जलदा ह्रदाः
All the oceans, rivers, sacred fords, rainclouds, and lakes—
योऽसौ वज्रधरो देव आदित्यानां प्रभुर्मतः
He who wields the thunderbolt, the god considered the lord of the Adityas—
रक्षोगणाधिपः साक्षात्प्रलयानिलसप्रभः 4.125.
The direct lord of the hosts of demons, shining like the wind of dissolution—
योऽसौ बिन्दुकरो बिन्दुः पिनाकी वृषवाहनः
He who creates the drop, who is the drop, who bears the bow Pinaka, who rides the bull—
त्रैलोक्ये यानि भूतानि स्थावराणि चराणि च
All beings in the three worlds, both immobile and mobile—
एवमामंत्रितैः कुम्भैरंभोयुक्तैर्युगान्वितैः पूजयेद्वस्त्रगोदानैर्ब्राह्मणानिष्टदेवताः
With such pots, properly invoked and filled with water, one should worship the chosen deities and Brahmins with gifts of cloth and cows.
एतानेव ततो मंत्रान्संलिख्य कनकान्वितान् । यजमानस्य शिरसि उद्धार्यास्ते नरोत्तम
Then, having inscribed these very mantras, adorned with gold, O best of men, they should be placed upon the head of the sacrificer.
कलशान्द्रव्यसंयुक्तान्प्राप्ते ग्रहणपर्वणि ।। चन्द्रग्रहे निवृत्ते तु कृतगोदानमङ्गलः
When the lunar eclipse has ended, and the auspicious gift of a cow has been made, with the pots filled with the prescribed substances—
