इत्यनेन विधानेन वर्षमेकं तु यो नरः
Thus, by this procedure, whoever for one year—
धनधान्यसमायुक्तः पुत्रपौत्रसमन्वितः 4.115.
—becomes endowed with wealth and grain, accompanied by sons and grandsons.
कर्मसंक्षयमवाप्य पार्थिवः शोकदुःखभयरोगवर्जितः
Having attained the exhaustion of karma, the king becomes free from sorrow, suffering, fear, and disease.
या च भर्तृगुरुदेवतत्परा वेदमूर्तिदिननक्तमाचरत्
And she who is devoted to husband, teacher, and deity, who practices day and night according to the Vedic form—
यः पठेदथ शृणोति वा नरः पश्यतीत्थमथ वानुमोदयेत् ।। सोऽपि शक्रभवने दिवौकसैः कल्पकोटिशतमेकमीड्यते
Whoever recites, hears, sees, or approves this, he too is worshipped in Indra's abode by the gods for one hundred billion kalpas.
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराण उत्तरपर्वणि श्रीकृष्णयुधिष्ठिरसंवाद आदित्यदिननक्तविधिवर्णनं नाम पञ्चदशोत्तरशततमोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the one hundred fifteenth chapter, named 'Description of the Aditya Day and Night Procedure,' in the Uttaraparva of the glorious Bhavishya Mahapurana, the dialogue between Shri Krishna and Yudhishthira.
संक्रान्त्युद्यापनवर्णनम् यदक्षयं परं लोके पुराणकवयो विदुः
Description of the completion of the Sankranti observance. That which is imperishable and supreme in the world, the ancient poets have known.
विषुवे अयने वापि संक्रातिव्रतमारभेत्
On the solstice or equinox, one should begin the Sankranti vow.
संक्रांतिवासरे प्राप्ते तिलैः स्नानं विधीयते
On the day of Sankranti, bathing with sesame seeds is prescribed.
पद्मं सकर्णिकं कुर्यात्तस्मिन्नावाहयेद्रविम्
One should make a lotus with a pericarp and invoke the sun therein.
नमः सप्तार्चिषेऽग्नेये याम्ये रुङ्मण्डलाय च
Salutations to the seven-rayed, to the fire, to the southern direction, and to the circle of light.
सप्तसप्तिं च वायव्ये पूजयेद्भास्वतां पतिम्
One should worship the lord of brilliance in the northwest as the seven-horsed.
गन्धमाल्यफलैर्भक्ष्यैः स्थंडिले पूजयेत्ततः
Then, on the ground, one should worship with fragrance, garlands, fruits, and offerings.
नमस्ते विश्वरूपाय विश्वधात्रे स्वयंभुवे
Salutations to the universal form, to the sustainer of the universe, to the self-born.
अनेन विधिना दत्त्वा भानवेऽर्घ्यं नरोत्तम
By this procedure, having offered arghya to the sun, O best of men—
कमलं च यथाशक्त्या कारयित्वा निवेदयेत 4.116.
One should prepare a lotus according to one's ability and offer it.
एकभुक्ताशनैः पुंभिः सर्वमेतद्यथाविधि
All this should be performed properly by men who eat only once a day.
कौंतेय तस्मिन्घृतपायसेन संपूज्य वह्निं द्विजपुंगवाय
O son of Kunti, at that time, having worshipped the fire with clarified butter and rice pudding, one should honor the foremost of twice-born.
निवेदयेद्ब्राह्मणपुङ्गवाय हैमीं च दद्यात्पृथिवीं ससस्याम्
One should offer to the eminent Brahmin, and give land with crops, made of gold.
सौवर्णसूर्येण समं प्रदद्यान्न वित्तशाठ्यं पुरुपोऽत्र कुर्यात्
One should give it along with a golden sun; no one should act with deceit regarding wealth here.
पृथ्वी च यावत्सकुलाचला च यावच्च सूर्यानिलवह्निचन्द्राः
As long as the earth, with all its mountains, and as long as the sun, wind, fire, and moon exist,
ततस्तु कर्मक्षयमाप्य सप्तद्वीपाधिपः स्यात्सुकुलप्रसूतः
Then, having exhausted his karma, he will become the lord of the seven islands, born in a noble family.
इति पठति शृणोति योऽतिभक्त्या विधिमखिलं रविसंक्रमेषु पुण्यम्
Whoever recites or hears this entire rite with great devotion at the transitions of the sun attains merit.
विष्टिव्रतवर्णनम् कस्यात्मजेयं किंरूपा पूज्यते च कथं जनैः । शनैश्चरस्य सोदर्या भगिन्यतिभयंकरी
Whose daughter is she, what is her form, and how is she worshipped by people? She is the sister of Shani, greatly fearsome.
सा जातमात्रा भुवनं ग्रस्तुं समुपचक्रमे
As soon as she was born, she began to devour the world.
निर्याति यदि कार्येण कश्चित्तस्य पुरः स्थिता
If anyone stands before her for any purpose, she departs.
यज्ञविघ्नकरी रौद्रा समाजोत्सवनाशिनी
She is fierce, an obstacle to sacrifices, and destroys gatherings and festivals.
तां तु दुर्विनयासक्तां दृष्ट्वा देवो दिवाकरः
Seeing her attached to improper conduct, the god Sun became concerned.
कन्यादुर्विनयाच्चेह पिता दोषेण गृह्यते
Because of the daughter's misconduct here, the father is blamed.
विचिंत्यैवं सुतां भद्रां यस्ययस्य प्रयच्छति
Thus reflecting, to whomever he gives his virtuous daughter,
