अनुराधास्वथाचार्यं देवानां पूज्य भक्तितः
In the Anurādhā constellation, the teacher of the gods should be worshipped with devotion.
हैमं हेममये पात्रे स्थापयित्वा बृहस्पतिम्
Having placed Bṛhaspati in a golden vessel,
पादुकाच्छत्रसहितं सदंडं सकमण्डलुम्
Along with sandals, umbrella, staff, and water-pot,
खण्डखाद्योपहारैश्च द्विजाय प्रतिपादयेत् अगाधबुद्धिगांभीर्य देवाचार्य नमोऽस्तु ते
One should offer to the twice-born with pieces of food and gifts; O teacher of the gods, whose intellect is unfathomable and profound, salutations to you.
शुक्रं ज्येष्ठासु संगृह्य क्षपयेन्नक्तभोजनैः
Having taken hold of Venus in the Jyeṣṭhā constellation, one should fast at night.
सप्तमे त्वथ संप्राप्ते सौवर्णं कारयेच्छुभम्
Then, upon the seventh day, one should make an auspicious golden image.
संपूज्य परया भक्त्या श्वेतवस्त्रविलेपनैः
After worshipping with supreme devotion, using white cloth and ointments,
दद्यादनेन मंत्रेण ब्राह्मणाय विचक्षणः
One who is wise should give it to a brāhmaṇa with this mantra.
हत्वा ग्रहकृतान्दोषानायुरारोग्यदो भव
Having destroyed the faults caused by the planets, may you grant longevity and health.
तस्मिन्दिने पूजनीयं ग्रहत्रितयमादरात् 4.113.
On that day, the three planets should be worshipped with reverence.
होमं तिलघृतैः कुर्याद्गृहनाम्ना तु मंत्रवित्
One skilled in mantras should perform a homa with sesame oil, reciting the names of the planets.
उदुंबरशमीदूर्वाकुशाश्च समिधः क्रमात्
Udumbara, Śamī, Dūrvā, and Kuśa should be used as fuel in order.
होतव्यं मधुसर्पिभ्यां दध्ना वा पायसेन वा
The offering should be made with honey and clarified butter, or with curd or rice pudding.
ग्रहास्त्रयोऽपि कर्तव्या राजँल्लोहमयाः शुभाः
The three planets should also be fashioned by the king in auspicious forms of iron.
कृष्णवस्त्रयुगं दद्यादेकैकस्य क्रमान्नृप
The king should give a pair of black garments to each one in turn.
होमावसाने सर्वं तद्ब्राह्मणायोपपादयेत्
At the conclusion of the homa, all these should be presented to the brāhmaṇa.
केतवे च नमस्तुभ्यं सर्वशांतिप्रदो भव
Salutations to you, O Ketu; may you be the giver of all peace.
यदि भौमो रविसुतो भास्करो राहुणा सह
Whether it is Mars, the son of the Sun, Bhāskara, or together with Rāhu—
अनेन कृतमात्रेण सर्वे शाम्यंत्युपद्रवाः
By this act alone, all disturbances are pacified.
एवं यः कुरुते राजन्सदाभक्तिसमन्वितः 4.113.
In this way, O King, whoever always performs this with devotion—
यश्चैतच्छ्रणुयात्कल्पं ग्रहाणां पठतेऽपि वा
And whoever listens to this account of the planets, or even recites it—
शनैश्चरं राहुकेतू लोहपात्रेषु विन्यसेत्
Should place Saturn, Rāhu, and Ketu in vessels of iron.
सूर्यं विधुं कुज बुधौ गुरुशुक्रसौरीन्हस्तादिकर्क्षसहितानुदितक्रमेण
The Sun, the Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, along with the ascending and descending nodes, in the order of their rising—
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराण उत्तरपर्वणि श्रीकृष्णयुधिष्ठिरसंवादे ग्रहनक्षत्रव्रतवर्णनं नाम त्रयोदशोत्तरशततमोऽध्यायः
Thus, in the glorious Bhavishya Mahāpurāṇa, in the Uttaraparvan, in the dialogue between Śrī Krishna and Yudhishthira, this is the one hundred thirteenth chapter, named 'Description of the Vow Relating to Planets and Stars.'
शनैश्चरव्रतवर्णनम् पुरा त्रेतायुगे पार्थ नावर्षत्पाकशासनः
Description of the vow for Saturn—
ततो राष्ट्रं क्षुधाविष्टं बभूवातीव दारुणम्
Then, O Pārtha, in the Tretā age, the lord of crops did not send rain.
तस्मिन्घोराकुले काले सपत्नीकः सबालकः
As a result, the land, afflicted by hunger, became exceedingly dreadful.
मार्गेऽथ गच्छता तेन कौशिकेन महर्षिणा
At that terrible and tumultuous time, a sage of the Kauśika lineage, with his wife and child,
तस्मिन्काले विशेषेण क्षीणेन्नौषधि संचये
While traveling on the road, that Kauśika sage—
सोऽपि बालो रुदन्दीनो दिशो वीक्ष्य स्थितः पथि
At that time, especially, as the store of medicinal herbs was depleted—
