Having made a bed with auspicious marks, free from conflicting knots.
With vessels, shoes, umbrellas, fans, seats, and mirrors.
There, having placed that deity, adorned and endowed with virtues,
A cow with golden horns, silver hooves, a calf, and a bronze milking vessel,
Just as there is no divine resting place for you made from a mountain,
Just as, O Lord, there is no greater good anywhere apart from you,
Then, after circumambulating and bowing, one should dismiss (the deity).
This is not to be given to one lacking discipline, or to a hypocrite, or to one corrupted by false logic, or to a blasphemer.
This should be given to a devotee, self-controlled, endowed with virtues, and filled with devotion to Shiva.
Or if a woman, with great devotion, performs this, relying on her husband or on an auspicious teacher,
This was formerly performed by Vashishtha, by Arjuna, by Kubera, and by Purandara.
Whoever thus recites or hears this, becomes dear to Shiva and to Puruhuta (Indra).
Thus, in the glorious Bhavishya Mahapurana, in the Uttara Parva, in the dialogue between Shri Krishna and Yudhishthira, the chapter named 'Description of the Shiva Nakshatra Purusha Vow,' the one hundred and ninth chapter.
The description of the complete vow—O Krishna, another excellent vow has been eagerly undertaken.
By which whatever was left unperformed in the past becomes complete.
I will tell you, the most excellent vow, the secret of secrets.
That vow, called 'Complete,' indeed bestows full results.
Certainly, it must be performed by those desiring unfailing results; by this vow, O Pandava, all becomes complete.
Through many kinds of troubles, and from pride and delusion, O prince, that becomes complete, O Partha; truly, truly, there is no doubt.
Let gold, silver, and an image be fashioned by a craftsman.
The form, whether of woman or man, that was previously determined at the beginning of the vow—
—with two arms, seated upon a lotus, with a gentle, smiling face—
When that month returns again, the brāhmaṇa, according to the prescribed rule, in his house—
—should anoint with fragrant sandal and flowers, and with saffron and the like—
—with incense, lamps, unbroken rice, garments, jewels, and offerings—
To one who approaches, who is afflicted, with hands joined in expiation—
For one who, in the next world, is fearful, or whose vow has been broken or shattered—
Any flaw in austerity, any flaw in the vow, any flaw in the broken vow—svāhā.
(Salutation to the specified deity; repeated salutations to the guardians of the directions in all quarters, above and below.)
This is arghya, this is water for the feet, this is food offering to you; repeated salutations.
