शिवनक्षत्रपुरुषं शिवभक्तिप्रदायकम्
The Shiva Nakshatra-Purusha grants devotion to Shiva.
फाल्गुनस्यामले पक्षे यदा हस्तः प्रजायते
When the Hasta constellation arises in the bright half of Phalguna,
शिवा येति च हस्तेन पादौ पूज्यतमौ स्मृतौ
It is said that on that day, with Hasta, the feet are to be worshipped.
भीमायेति च स्वातीषु पूजयेत्पुरुषर्षभ
And when Bhima and Swati occur, O best of men, one should perform worship.
मेढ्रं चैवानुराधासु अनङ्गाङ्गहराय च
And the phallus in Anuradha, to the remover of the limbs of desire.
दानाख्याय नमो नाभिः पूज्या मूलेन शूलिनः
With the navel, one should salute Dāna, and worship the root of the trident-bearer.
श्रवणेन तथा कुक्षी पूज्ये कपालिनेति च 4.109.
With the ear and also the abdomen, one should worship Kapālin thus.
वामेति पूजयेत्पार्थ हृदयं शतभिषासु च
On the left side, O Partha, the heart is to be worshipped in Shatabhisha.
पूज्यं रुद्राय च तथा रेवतीषु करद्वयम्
The two hands are to be worshipped for Rudra in Revati likewise.
भरणीषु ततः पृष्ठं वृषांकाय नमोऽस्तु ते
Then, in Bharani, the back is to be worshipped; salutations to you, O bull-marked one.
वाक्पूज्या रोहिणीयोगे नमो वाचस्पतेति च
Speech is to be worshipped in Rohini conjunction; salutations to you, O lord of speech.
आर्द्रासु पूज्यावधरौ स्थाणवेति युधिष्ठिर
In Ardra, the two lips are to be worshipped as Sthanu, O Yudhishthira.
पुष्ये नेत्रत्रयं पूज्यं नमस्ते सर्वदर्शिने
In Pushya, the three eyes are to be worshipped; salutations to you, O all-seeing one.
मघासु च जटाजूटं पूजयेदंधकारये
In Magha, the matted hair is to be worshipped as the lord of darkness.
नमोऽस्तु पाशांकुशपद्मशूलकपालसर्पेन्दुधनुर्द्धराय
Salutations to the bearer of the noose, goad, lotus, trident, skull, serpent, moon, and bow.
शिरः सम्पूजयेद्दद्यात्ततो धूपविलेपनम्
One should worship the head and then offer incense and ointment.
शालितण्डुलकप्रस्थं घृतपात्रेण संयुतम् 4.109.
A prastha of rice and barley, combined with a vessel of ghee.
शक्त्यभावे न दोषः स्यादधिके चाधिकं फलम्
If there is inability, there is no fault; if there is excess, the result is greater.
सूतकाशौचदोषे तु पुनरन्यदुपोषयेत्
In the case of impurity due to birth or death, one should again observe another fast.
ब्राह्मणान्भोजयेद्भक्त्या गुडक्षीर घृतादिभिः
One should feed Brahmins with devotion, with jaggery, milk, ghee, and the like.
शय्यां सुलक्षणां कृत्वा विरुद्धग्रंथिवर्जिताम्
Having made a bed with auspicious marks, free from conflicting knots.
भाजनोपानहच्छत्रचामरासनदर्पणैः
With vessels, shoes, umbrellas, fans, seats, and mirrors.
तस्यां निधाय तं देवमलंकृत्य गुणान्वितम्
There, having placed that deity, adorned and endowed with virtues,
सुवर्णशृंगीं रौप्यखुरां सवत्सां कांस्यदोहनाम्
A cow with golden horns, silver hooves, a calf, and a bronze milking vessel,
यथा न देवशयनं तव पर्वतजातया
Just as there is no divine resting place for you made from a mountain,
यथा देव न श्रेयोऽर्थस्त्वदन्यो विद्यते क्वचित्
Just as, O Lord, there is no greater good anywhere apart from you,
ततः प्रदक्षिणीकृत्य प्रणिपत्य विसर्जयेत् 4.109.
Then, after circumambulating and bowing, one should dismiss (the deity).
नैतद्विशीलाय न दांभिकाय कुतर्कदुष्टाय विनिंदकाय
This is not to be given to one lacking discipline, or to a hypocrite, or to one corrupted by false logic, or to a blasphemer.
भक्ताय दांताय गुणान्विताय प्रदेयमेतच्छिवभक्तियुक्तैः
This should be given to a devotee, self-controlled, endowed with virtues, and filled with devotion to Shiva.
या वाथ नारी कुरुतेऽतिभक्त्या भर्तारमाश्रित्य शुभं गुरुं वा
Or if a woman, with great devotion, performs this, relying on her husband or on an auspicious teacher,
