न किंचित्सुखमाप्नोति विना तस्यानुकंपया
No one attains happiness without his compassion.
विधानं सोपचारं च ह्युपदेष्टुं त्वमर्हसि
You are worthy to instruct us in the proper method, with all its details.
साधूनां समचित्तानामुपकारवतां सताम्
For the virtuous, who are even-minded and always helpful, O noble one.
इति पृष्टो विधिं वक्तुमितिहासमथाब्रवीत्
Thus questioned, he began to speak the procedure and the story.
ममाश्रमं समायातः सत्यनारायणार्चने 3.2.27.

After bathing the deity with the five nectars, one should worship with sandal and other offerings.
उच्चावचः फलैः पुष्पैर्धूपदीपैमर्नोरमैः
With various fruits, flowers, incense, lamps, and water, both great and small.
न तुष्येद्द्रव्यसंभारैर्भक्त्या केवलया यथा
He is not pleased by material offerings as much as by pure devotion.
दुर्योधनकृतां त्यत्क्वा राजपूजां जनार्दनः
Janardana, having rejected the royal honors arranged by Duryodhana,
सुदाम्नस्तंडुलकणाञ्जग्ध्वा मानुष्यदुर्लभाः
Sudama, having eaten grains of rice that are rare for humans,
गोपो गृध्रो वणिग्व्याधो हनुमान्सविभीषणः
The cowherd, the vulture, the merchant, the hunter, Hanuman, and Vibhishana,
नारायणान्तिकं प्राप्य मोदंतेऽद्यापि यद्वशाः
Having reached the presence of Narayana, even today they rejoice under His influence.
कृतवान्स धनं लब्ध्वा मोदते नर्मदातटे 3.2.27.
He, having obtained wealth, rejoices on the banks of the Narmada.
इह लोके सुखं प्राप्य चान्ते सान्निध्यमाप्नुयाः
Having attained happiness in this world, one ultimately gains proximity at the end.
स गत्वा स्वगणानाह माहात्म्यं हरिसेवने
He went and told his companions about the greatness of service to Hari.
सत्यनारायणे पूजां काष्ठलब्धेन यावता
In the worship of Satyanarayana, whatever was obtained from selling wood,
इति निश्चित्य मनसा काष्ठं विक्रीय लेभिरे
Thus, having resolved in their minds, they sold the wood and acquired it.
मुदा स्त्रीभ्यस्समाचख्युर्वृत्तांतं सर्वमादितः
With joy, they told the women all the events from the beginning.
कथान्ते प्रणमन्भक्त्या प्रसादं जगृहुस्ततः
At the end of the story, bowing with devotion, they then received grace.
पूजाप्रभावतो भिल्लाः पुत्रदारादिभिर्युताः
By the power of the worship, the Bhillas, together with their sons and wives,
भुक्त्वा भोगान्यथेष्टन्ते दरिद्रान्धा द्विजोत्तम
Having enjoyed pleasures as they wished, the poor and blind, O best of twice-born,
नृपोपदेशतः साधुः कृतार्थोऽभूद्वणिग्यथा
By the king's instruction, the virtuous one became fulfilled, just as the merchant did.
मणिपूरपती राजा चन्द्रचूडो महायशाः
The king of Manipur, Chandracuda, possessed great fame.
अथ रत्नपुरस्थायी साधुर्लक्षपतिर्वणिक्
Then, residing in Ratnapura, was a virtuous merchant, lord of a hundred thousand.
ददर्श बहुलं लोकं नानाग्रामविलासिनम्
He saw a multitude of people, delighting in various villages.
वेदवादांश्च शुश्राव गीतवादित्रसंगतान्
He heard Vedic teachings, and gatherings of singing and instrumental music.
विश्रामयात्र तरणीरिति पश्यामि कौतुकम्
Let us rest here; I see a boat, and I am curious.
तटसीम्नः समुत्तीर्य मल्ललीलाविलासिनः
Crossing over the riverbank, those skilled in wrestling games displayed their prowess.
