She began to recount that wondrous tale, and I shall also tell it to you.
Then the demon Śaṃkukarṇa became exceedingly difficult to conquer; having reached Indra’s abode, he entered utterly without fear.
Seeing him suddenly arrive, Indra rolled off his bed.
The demon sat down upon Indra’s couch.
Then the gods, out of fear, gathered to see the enemy of the gods.
Vāsudeva also came there to see that thorn of the gods.
Blessed am I, my purpose is fulfilled, for Garuḍa-bannered one is mine.
Then, taking him by the hand, he led him near the bed.
Then Krishna, swiftly seizing him with both arms, slowly and steadily, the lord of the demons died, his cage of bones crushed by force.
Then Indra emerged from the foot of the bed, his head bowed down.
This I have seen, O Indra, while dwelling in the mansion of the gods.
Then, filled with curiosity, the king of the gods approached that ascetic woman.
I know these deeds of theirs, and thus they became as they are.
Oh, truly, among all vows, this fast is most wondrous.
Thus addressed by the lord of the gods, the ascetic woman—
O lord of the gods, Achyuta is worshipped every month at the lunar asterism.
This is the result of my action, the fruit of my worship of Achyuta.
One attains the prosperity, sovereignty, and unbroken lineage of the lord of heaven.
O lord of the gods, all these ancient deeds of the former Indra I have recounted to you as you asked.
O lord of the wise, righteousness, wealth, pleasure, and liberation—all that is desired—
Hearing those words of hers, the king of the gods and Bṛhaspati—
Therefore, O son of Pṛthā, with effort and concentration, every month—
Those wise ones who, for seven years, observe the vows, stories, and practices of the Sāṃbharāyaṇī according to the prescribed method—
Thus, in the glorious Bhaviṣya Mahāpurāṇa, in the Uttara Parvan, in the dialogue between Śrī Kṛṣṇa and Yudhiṣṭhira, ends the one hundred and seventh chapter entitled 'The Description of the Sāṃbharāyaṇī Vow.'
The description of the Nakṣatra-puruṣa vow. By what action is one born thus? You ought to tell me this.
Of those who are beautiful in form, well-shaped in body, and splendidly attired—
Some men, though possessing all excellent limbs, are not the highest—
The complete beauty of form in men and women—
Grace in movement and speech, when beauty is present, O wise one—
The charm of speech, refinement, elegance, and delightful gait—
