चतुरः प्रथमान्मासान्पञ्चगव्यमुदाहृतम्
For the first four months, pañcagavya is prescribed.
सूर्यांशुतप्तं तद्वच्च जलं कायविशोधनम् कारयेच्चैव देवस्य पारणेपारणे गते
Water heated by the sun's rays is likewise purifying for the body; one should perform this for the deity at the conclusion of each pāraṇa.
जनार्दनं सपत्नीकमर्चयेत्प्रथमं ततः
First, one should worship Janardana together with his consort.
प्रतिमासं तु नामानि कृष्णस्यैतानि भारत उच्चारयन्नरो याति यथालोकं यथासुखम्
Each month, O Bhārata, by reciting these names of Krishna, a person attains the appropriate world and happiness.
ततो विप्राय वै दद्यादुदकुंभं सदक्षिणम्
Then, one should give a water-pot with a proper gift to a brāhmaṇa.
यद्वै मासगतं नाम प्रीयतामिति कीर्तयेत्
One should recite, 'May the name associated with this month be pleased.'
माधवं माघमासे तु गोविन्दमपि फाल्गुने
In the month of Māgha, the name is Mādhava; in Phālguna, it is Govinda.
ज्येष्ठे त्रिविक्रमो ज्ञेयस्तथाषाढे च वामनः
In Jyeṣṭha, he is known as Trivikrama; likewise, in Āṣāḍha, as Vāmana.
रामो भाद्रपदे मासि गीयते पुण्यकांक्षिभिः 4.104.
Rama is sung in the month of Bhadrapada by those who desire merit.
कार्तिके देवदेवेशं स्तुवंस्तरति दुर्गतिम् यदि दातुं न शक्नोति दद्याच्चैवैकहेलया
In Kartika, one who praises the Lord of gods transcends misfortune; if unable to give, one should offer even a single item playfully.
विशेषश्चात्र कथितश्चन्द्रं कृत्वा हिरण्मयम्
Here, a special instruction is given: make a moon out of gold.
स्तुवन्नेवं विधानेन पारणेऽभ्यर्चयेत्प्रभुम्
While praising in this manner, one should worship the Lord at the conclusion of the fast.
इहैव स्वस्थतां प्राप्य मरणे स्मरणं ततः
Here itself, attaining health, then at death, remembrance follows.
ततो मानुष्यमासाद्य निरातंको गतज्वरः
Thereafter, having attained human birth, one is free from fear and fever.
श्रीशर्वरी मधुनि हा भगवाञ्छशांकः संकल्प्य चन्दनतिलाक्षतपुष्पमिश्रम्
On the auspicious night, in the honey month, O Lord Moon, one should resolve to offer sandalwood, sesame, rice, and flowers mixed together.
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराण उत्तरपर्वणि श्रीकृष्णयुधिष्ठिरसंवादे पूर्णमनोरथव्रतं नाम चतुरधिकशततमोऽध्यायः
Thus, in the glorious Bhavishya Mahapurana, in the Uttaraparva, in the dialogue between Sri Krishna and Yudhishthira, the chapter named 'The vow fulfilling all desires,' being the one hundred and fourth.
विशोकपूर्णिमाव्रतवर्णनम् यामुपोष्य नराः शोकं नाप्नुवंति कदाचन
Description of the Viśoka Purnima vow: Those who observe it never experience sorrow.
फाल्गुनामलपक्षस्य पौर्णमास्यां नरोत्तम मृत्प्राशनं ततः कृत्वा कृत्वा च स्थंडिलं मृदा
On the full moon of the bright half of Phalguna, O best of men, after eating clay and making a platform with clay,
पुष्पैः पत्रैस्तथाभ्यर्च्य भूधरं नाम नामतः
Having worshipped with flowers and leaves, one should honor the mountain by name.
यथा विशोकां धरणे कृतवांस्त्वां जनार्दनः
Just as Janardana made the earth free from sorrow,
यथा समस्तभूतानामाधारत्त्वं व्यवस्थिता
Just as you are established as the support of all beings,
ध्यानमात्रे यथा विष्णोः स्वास्थ्यं जानासि मेदिनि
Just as, by mere meditation on Vishnu, you, O Earth, know well-being,
एवं स्तुत्वा तथाभ्यर्च्य चन्द्रायार्घ्यं निवेद्य च
Having thus praised and worshipped, one should offer libation to the moon.
अनेनैव प्रकारेण चत्वारः फाल्गुनादयः
In this same manner, the four months beginning with Phalguna,
आषाढादिषु मासेषु तद्वत्स्नानं मृदंबुना
In the months beginning with Ashadha, likewise, one should bathe with clay and water.
चतुर्ष्वन्येषु चैवोक्तं कार्तिकादिषु पारणम् 4.105.
And in the other four months, as stated, the fast is to be observed beginning with Kartika.
विशेषपूजा दानं च तथा जागरणं निशि
Special worship, giving of gifts, and likewise keeping vigil at night—
प्रथमे धरणी नाम तुभ्यं मासचतुष्टयम्
In the first four months, the observance called 'Dharani' is prescribed for you.
पारणेपारणे पार्थ युग्मानेवार्च्चयेद्द्विजान् ।। धरणीं देव देवं च तत्तत्स्थानेन केशवम्
At the conclusion and commencement of the fast, O Partha, one should honor the twice-born in pairs, and worship Dharani, the Lord of gods, and Kesava in their respective places.
वस्त्राभावे च सूत्रेण पूजयेद्धरणीं तथा ।। घृताभावे तथा क्षीरं शस्तं वा सलिलं हरेः । ।.
If cloth is lacking, one should worship Dharani with a thread; if ghee is lacking, then milk or, if that is not available, water is suitable for Hari.
