नास्तिकान्भिन्नवृत्तांश्च पापिनो नैव चालपेत्
One should not converse with atheists, those of divergent conduct, or sinners.
तिष्ठन्व्रजन्प्रस्खलन्वा भुंजानोपि जनार्दनम्
Whether standing, walking, stumbling, or even while eating, one should remember Janardana.
लक्ष्म्या समन्वितं देवमर्चयेच्च जनार्दनम् रात्रौ च लक्ष्मीं संचिन्त्य सम्यगर्घेण पूजयेत
One should worship Janardana, the god endowed with Lakshmi; and at night, meditating on Lakshmi, one should properly offer arghya in worship.
श्रीनिशाकररूपस्त्वं वासुदेव जगत्पते
O Vasudeva, Lord of the universe, you are the form of the radiant moon.
मंत्रेणानेन दत्त्वार्घं देवदेवस्य भक्तितः
With this mantra, one should offer arghya to the God of gods with devotion.
तथैव चैत्रे वैशाखे ज्येष्ठे च नृपसत्तम
In the same way, O best of kings, during Caitra, Vaiśākha, and Jyeṣṭha months—
निष्पादितं भवेदेकं पारणं पार्थ शक्तितः
One pāraṇa should be performed, O Pārtha, according to one's ability.
आषाढे श्रावणे मासि प्राप्ते भाद्रपदे तथा अर्घं चन्द्रमसे दत्त्वा भुञ्जाताथ यथाविधि
When the months of Āṣāḍha, Śrāvaṇa, and Bhādrapada arrive, one should offer arghya to the moon and then eat as prescribed.
द्वितीयमेतदाख्यातं तृतीयं पारणं शृणु भूत्या समन्वितं दद्याच्छशांकाय तथा निशि । 4.104.
This is called the second pāraṇa; now hear about the third pāraṇa: one should give, endowed with prosperity, to the moon at night.
भुञ्जीत च यथाख्यातं तृतीयं पारणं शृणु प्रतिमासं च वक्ष्यामि प्राशनं कायशुद्धये
And one should eat as prescribed; now hear about the third pāraṇa. I will declare the monthly practice of taking for bodily purification.
चतुरः प्रथमान्मासान्पञ्चगव्यमुदाहृतम्
For the first four months, pañcagavya is prescribed.
सूर्यांशुतप्तं तद्वच्च जलं कायविशोधनम् कारयेच्चैव देवस्य पारणेपारणे गते
Water heated by the sun's rays is likewise purifying for the body; one should perform this for the deity at the conclusion of each pāraṇa.
जनार्दनं सपत्नीकमर्चयेत्प्रथमं ततः
First, one should worship Janardana together with his consort.
प्रतिमासं तु नामानि कृष्णस्यैतानि भारत उच्चारयन्नरो याति यथालोकं यथासुखम्
Each month, O Bhārata, by reciting these names of Krishna, a person attains the appropriate world and happiness.
ततो विप्राय वै दद्यादुदकुंभं सदक्षिणम्
Then, one should give a water-pot with a proper gift to a brāhmaṇa.
यद्वै मासगतं नाम प्रीयतामिति कीर्तयेत्
One should recite, 'May the name associated with this month be pleased.'
माधवं माघमासे तु गोविन्दमपि फाल्गुने
In the month of Māgha, the name is Mādhava; in Phālguna, it is Govinda.
ज्येष्ठे त्रिविक्रमो ज्ञेयस्तथाषाढे च वामनः
In Jyeṣṭha, he is known as Trivikrama; likewise, in Āṣāḍha, as Vāmana.
रामो भाद्रपदे मासि गीयते पुण्यकांक्षिभिः 4.104.
Rama is sung in the month of Bhadrapada by those who desire merit.
कार्तिके देवदेवेशं स्तुवंस्तरति दुर्गतिम् यदि दातुं न शक्नोति दद्याच्चैवैकहेलया
In Kartika, one who praises the Lord of gods transcends misfortune; if unable to give, one should offer even a single item playfully.
विशेषश्चात्र कथितश्चन्द्रं कृत्वा हिरण्मयम्
Here, a special instruction is given: make a moon out of gold.
स्तुवन्नेवं विधानेन पारणेऽभ्यर्चयेत्प्रभुम्
While praising in this manner, one should worship the Lord at the conclusion of the fast.
इहैव स्वस्थतां प्राप्य मरणे स्मरणं ततः
Here itself, attaining health, then at death, remembrance follows.
ततो मानुष्यमासाद्य निरातंको गतज्वरः
Thereafter, having attained human birth, one is free from fear and fever.
श्रीशर्वरी मधुनि हा भगवाञ्छशांकः संकल्प्य चन्दनतिलाक्षतपुष्पमिश्रम्
On the auspicious night, in the honey month, O Lord Moon, one should resolve to offer sandalwood, sesame, rice, and flowers mixed together.
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराण उत्तरपर्वणि श्रीकृष्णयुधिष्ठिरसंवादे पूर्णमनोरथव्रतं नाम चतुरधिकशततमोऽध्यायः
Thus, in the glorious Bhavishya Mahapurana, in the Uttaraparva, in the dialogue between Sri Krishna and Yudhishthira, the chapter named 'The vow fulfilling all desires,' being the one hundred and fourth.
विशोकपूर्णिमाव्रतवर्णनम् यामुपोष्य नराः शोकं नाप्नुवंति कदाचन
Description of the Viśoka Purnima vow: Those who observe it never experience sorrow.
फाल्गुनामलपक्षस्य पौर्णमास्यां नरोत्तम मृत्प्राशनं ततः कृत्वा कृत्वा च स्थंडिलं मृदा
On the full moon of the bright half of Phalguna, O best of men, after eating clay and making a platform with clay,
पुष्पैः पत्रैस्तथाभ्यर्च्य भूधरं नाम नामतः
Having worshipped with flowers and leaves, one should honor the mountain by name.
यथा विशोकां धरणे कृतवांस्त्वां जनार्दनः
Just as Janardana made the earth free from sorrow,
