विस्मितश्चंद्रचूडश्च दृष्ट्वाश्चर्यमनुत्तमम्
Candracūḍa was amazed, having seen that unsurpassed wonder.
दृष्ट्वा श्रुत्वा सदानंदं सत्यदेवप्रपूजकम् 3.2.26.
Having seen and heard of Sadānanda, the devoted worshipper of Satyadeva.
द्विजराज नमस्तुभ्यं सदानंद महामते
O king of the twice-born, salutations to you, Sadānanda, of great wisdom.
यथा प्रसन्नो भगवाँल्लक्ष्मीकान्तो जनार्दनः
As the blessed Lord Lakṣmī's beloved, Janārdana, is pleased,
सौभाग्यसंततिकरं सर्वत्र विजयप्रदम्
He bestows prosperity and offspring, and grants victory everywhere.
सत्यनारायणव्रतं श्रीपतेस्तुष्टिकारकम्
The vow of Satyanārāyaṇa brings satisfaction to Śrīpati.
तोरणादि प्रकर्तव्यं कदलीस्तंभमंडितम्
One should construct an archway adorned with banana pillars.
तन्मध्ये वेदिकां रम्यां कारयेत्स व्रती द्विजैः
In its midst, the votary should have a beautiful altar made by the twice-born.
कुर्याद्गंधादिभिः पूजां प्रेमभक्तिसमन्वितः
He should perform worship with fragrances and the like, filled with loving devotion.
इति श्रुत्वा स नृपतिः काश्यां देवमपूजयत्
Having heard thus, the king worshipped the deity in Kāśī.
शत्रुपक्षक्षयकरं प्राप्य खङ्गं नृपोत्तमः
The best of kings, having obtained a sword that destroys the enemy's forces,
हत्वा दस्यून्षष्टिशतांस्तेषां लब्ध्वा महद्धनम् 3.2.26.
Having slain sixty bands of robbers, he obtained great wealth from them.
पौर्णमास्यां विधानेन मासिमासि नृपोत्तमः
On the full moon day, according to the prescribed method, the best of kings performed the rite every month.
तद्व्रतस्य प्रभावेन लक्षग्रामाधिपोऽभवत्
By the power of that vow, he became the lord of a hundred thousand villages.
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराणे प्रतिसर्गपर्वणि चतुर्युगखंडापरपर्याये कलियुगीयेतिहाससमुच्चये चन्द्रचूडोद्धारोनाम षडूविंशोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the twenty-sixth chapter, entitled 'The Uplifting of Candracūḍa,' in the section on the Kali Age's collected histories, in the Caturyuga-khaṇḍa-aparaparyāya, in the Pratisarga-parvan of the glorious Bhaviṣya Mahāpurāṇa.
विचरंतो वने नित्यं निषादाः काष्ठवाहिनः
The Niṣādas, always carrying wood, wandered in the forest.
वनात्काष्ठानि विक्रेतुं पुरीं काशीं ययुः क्वचित्
At times, to sell the wood from the forest, they went to the city of Kāśī.
ददर्श विपुलैश्वर्यं सेवितं च द्विजैर्हरिम्
There, they saw Hari, attended by twice-born men, and endowed with great wealth.
यो दृष्टोऽकिंचनो विप्रो दृश्यतेऽद्य महाधनः
The brāhmaṇa, who was once destitute, is seen today as exceedingly wealthy.
ऐश्वर्यं ते कुतो ब्रह्मन्दुर्गतिस्ते कुतो गता
Where has your prosperity come from, O brāhmaṇa? Where has your misfortune gone?
न किंचित्सुखमाप्नोति विना तस्यानुकंपया
No one attains happiness without his compassion.
विधानं सोपचारं च ह्युपदेष्टुं त्वमर्हसि
You are worthy to instruct us in the proper method, with all its details.
साधूनां समचित्तानामुपकारवतां सताम्
For the virtuous, who are even-minded and always helpful, O noble one.
इति पृष्टो विधिं वक्तुमितिहासमथाब्रवीत्
Thus questioned, he began to speak the procedure and the story.
ममाश्रमं समायातः सत्यनारायणार्चने 3.2.27.
Having come to my hermitage, he worshipped Satyanārāyaṇa.
मया यत्कथितंतस्मै तन्निबोध निषादज
Whatever I told him, listen to that, O Niṣāda-born.
गोधूमचूर्णं पादार्धं सेटकाद्यैः सुचूर्णकम्
Take half a measure of wheat flour, well mixed with sugar and other ingredients.
पंचामृतेन संस्नाप्य चन्दनाद्यैश्च पूजयेत्
After bathing the deity with the five nectars, one should worship with sandal and other offerings.
उच्चावचः फलैः पुष्पैर्धूपदीपैमर्नोरमैः
With various fruits, flowers, incense, lamps, and water, both great and small.
न तुष्येद्द्रव्यसंभारैर्भक्त्या केवलया यथा
He is not pleased by material offerings as much as by pure devotion.
