On the fifteenth day of Māgha, having worshipped the Grandsire—
—one should praise a cow made of fresh butter, adorned with various kinds of fruits, so that the Lotus-born Grandsire may be pleased here.
Whatever is rare in heaven, in the netherworld, or among mortals—
—and whatever other gifts have been given, even if they are many—
Even if someone gives a little, or very little, even if he is poor—
—knowing his own means, whether he is wealthy or a king—
The earth, gold, a house, a dwelling, beds, and seats—
Thus, having given according to one's ability and having fed even the twice-born,
Whatever mental, physical, or verbal sin there may be,
While being sung by the Gandharvas and praised by the gods and asuras,
Whatever is given at that time is said to yield a crore-fold result; bathing, recitation, and observances—all become inexhaustible.
Thus, in the glorious Bhavishya Mahapurana, in the Uttaraparvan, in the dialogue between Shri Krishna and Yudhishthira, is the one hundred and first chapter named 'The Description of the Greatness of the Yugadi Tithi Vow.'
The description of the Vat-Savitri vow. Tell me that Savitri vow; have compassion on me.
And how that excellent vow was performed by Savitri, the royal maiden,
There was in Madra a righteous king, devoted to the welfare of all beings,
That king was patient, truthful, and self-controlled.
That Savitri vow, accomplished by her, grants all desires.
This very 'bhūḥ, bhuvaḥ, svaḥ' is present here in embodied form.
She said, 'O King, you will have a single daughter.'
In time, O King, that daughter, divine in form,
The Brahmins and her father gave her the name Savitri; Savitri, with delicate limbs, entered her youth.
She, with a slender waist and broad hips, was like a golden image.
She, with eyes like lotus petals, shone as if blazing with radiance.
Then, having fasted and bathed her head, she approached the deity.
The princess received the remaining flowers from them.
After respectfully greeting her father's feet, she first presented the remaining ones.
Seeing her, who had attained youth and was pure, resembling a goddess,
The proper time for her giving has arrived; let someone choose her.
As is to be spoken among the gods and others, if she is not obtained, do likewise.
A maiden in her father's house who sees her menses, yet is unsanctified,
