Reciting, 'May Śrīdhara, Śrīpati, the glorious Lord of prosperity, be pleased,' one attains here, without doubt, the merit of giving a thousand cows multiplied tenfold.
Likewise, in the month of Kārtika, on the ninth day, a man who eats only at night—
—should worship the boon-giving, blue-throated Lord accompanied by Umā.
He should give a cow made of sesame, according to the ordinance stated in the Purāṇas.
O Pārtha, who can describe the merit that is obtained here?
On the thirteenth day of the dark fortnight in the month of Bhādrapada, one should worship, and with devotion feed Brāhmaṇas learned in the Vedas and Vedāṅgas.
For the sake of the ancestors, a cow with a calf and a bronze milking vessel should be given.
The father, grandfather, and likewise the great-grandfather—
O king, the merit that is obtained by men through this act—
—is the attainment of sons, grandsons, great-grandsons, and the great wealth that is desired.
On the fifteenth day of Māgha, having worshipped the Grandsire—
—one should praise a cow made of fresh butter, adorned with various kinds of fruits, so that the Lotus-born Grandsire may be pleased here.
Whatever is rare in heaven, in the netherworld, or among mortals—
—and whatever other gifts have been given, even if they are many—
Even if someone gives a little, or very little, even if he is poor—
—knowing his own means, whether he is wealthy or a king—
The earth, gold, a house, a dwelling, beds, and seats—
Thus, having given according to one's ability and having fed even the twice-born,
Whatever mental, physical, or verbal sin there may be,
While being sung by the Gandharvas and praised by the gods and asuras,
Whatever is given at that time is said to yield a crore-fold result; bathing, recitation, and observances—all become inexhaustible.
Thus, in the glorious Bhavishya Mahapurana, in the Uttaraparvan, in the dialogue between Shri Krishna and Yudhishthira, is the one hundred and first chapter named 'The Description of the Greatness of the Yugadi Tithi Vow.'
The description of the Vat-Savitri vow. Tell me that Savitri vow; have compassion on me.
And how that excellent vow was performed by Savitri, the royal maiden,
There was in Madra a righteous king, devoted to the welfare of all beings,
That king was patient, truthful, and self-controlled.
That Savitri vow, accomplished by her, grants all desires.
This very 'bhūḥ, bhuvaḥ, svaḥ' is present here in embodied form.
She said, 'O King, you will have a single daughter.'
In time, O King, that daughter, divine in form,
