अन्ते सान्निध्यमासाद्य मोदन्ते ते मया सह
In the end, attaining proximity, they rejoice together with me.
इत्युक्त्वान्तर्दधे विष्णुर्विप्रोपि सुखमाप्तवान्
Having spoken thus, Viṣṇu disappeared, and the Brahmin too attained happiness.
अद्य भैक्ष्येण लभ्येन पूज्यो नारायणो मया
Today, by what I have obtained through alms, I have worshipped Nārāyaṇa.
विना देहीति वचनं लब्धा च विपुलं धनम्
Without asking for the body, he received abundant wealth.
वृत्तांतं सर्वमाचख्यौ ब्राह्मणी सान्वमोदत
He related the entire event, and the Brahmin's wife rejoiced with him.
आहूय बन्धुमित्राणि तथा सान्निध्यवर्तिनः
She called together relatives, friends, and those who were nearby.
भक्त्या तुतोष भगवान्सत्यनारायणः स्वयम्
With devotion, the Blessed Lord Satyanārāyaṇa himself was pleased.
वव्रे विप्रोऽभिलषितमिहामुत्र सुखप्रदम् 3.2.25.
The Brahmin requested whatever was desired, granting happiness here and hereafter.
रथं कुञ्जरं मंजुलं मन्दिरं च हयं चारु चामी करालं कृतं च
A chariot, a splendid elephant, a beautiful house, a fine horse, and a golden necklace were given.
तथास्त्विति हरिः प्राह ततश्चांतर्दधे प्रभुः
Hari said, 'So be it,' and then the Lord vanished.
प्रणम्य भुवि कायेन प्रसादं प्रापुरादरात्
Bowing down to the ground with their bodies, they received the favor with reverence.
प्रचचार ततो लोके सत्यनारायणार्चनम्
From then on, the worship of Satyanārāyaṇa spread throughout the world.
चन्द्रचूड इति ख्यातः प्रजापालनतत्परः
He was known as Candracūḍa, devoted to the protection of his people.
शांतो मधुरवाग्धीरो नारायणपरायणः
Peaceful, gentle in speech, steadfast, and devoted to Nārāyaṇa.
तस्य तैरवभवद्युद्धमतिप्रबलदारुणैः
A fierce and exceedingly powerful battle arose there with them.
चन्द्रचूडस्य महती सेना यमपुरे गता
The great army of Candracūḍa went to the city of Yama.
पत्तयः पंचसाहस्रा मृताः स्वर्गपुरं ययुः
Five thousand foot soldiers died and went to the city of heaven.
आक्रांतः स महाभागस्तैर्म्लेच्छैर्दंभयोधिभिः
That most fortunate one was attacked by those deceitful mlecchas.
तीर्थव्याजेन स नृपः पुरीं काशीं समागतः
That king came to the city of Kāśī under the pretense of pilgrimage.
ददर्श नगरीं चैव धनधान्यसमन्विताम्
He beheld the city, endowed with wealth and grain.
विस्मितश्चंद्रचूडश्च दृष्ट्वाश्चर्यमनुत्तमम्
Candracūḍa was amazed, having seen that unsurpassed wonder.
दृष्ट्वा श्रुत्वा सदानंदं सत्यदेवप्रपूजकम् 3.2.26.
Having seen and heard of Sadānanda, the devoted worshipper of Satyadeva.
द्विजराज नमस्तुभ्यं सदानंद महामते
O king of the twice-born, salutations to you, Sadānanda, of great wisdom.
यथा प्रसन्नो भगवाँल्लक्ष्मीकान्तो जनार्दनः
As the blessed Lord Lakṣmī's beloved, Janārdana, is pleased,
सौभाग्यसंततिकरं सर्वत्र विजयप्रदम्
He bestows prosperity and offspring, and grants victory everywhere.
सत्यनारायणव्रतं श्रीपतेस्तुष्टिकारकम्
The vow of Satyanārāyaṇa brings satisfaction to Śrīpati.
तोरणादि प्रकर्तव्यं कदलीस्तंभमंडितम्
One should construct an archway adorned with banana pillars.
तन्मध्ये वेदिकां रम्यां कारयेत्स व्रती द्विजैः
In its midst, the votary should have a beautiful altar made by the twice-born.
कुर्याद्गंधादिभिः पूजां प्रेमभक्तिसमन्वितः
He should perform worship with fragrances and the like, filled with loving devotion.
इति श्रुत्वा स नृपतिः काश्यां देवमपूजयत्
Having heard thus, the king worshipped the deity in Kāśī.
