How is it, O lord of the night, that you are now afflicted by desire? I am devoted to another; may good befall you, O best of the wise, I am not to be approached.
Thus addressed, he likewise did not do that.
But Brihaspati, having understood her, reproached Soma.
Then, after a long time, Brihaspati, of noble intellect, realized the truth.
He reported everything to Indra regarding Soma's actions.
But Soma did not take heed, and then the lord of the gods became aware.
Hearing this, the gods and Gandharvas, blinded by anger, became agitated in mind.
Soma, knowing the gods were preparing and firmly resolved on action—
Mounted the best of chariots and set his mind solely on battle.
With spears, the earth-demons, and the Kauṇapas shattered the gods and Indra's forces, while the night-maker rained down gold.
Having conquered the gods and Gandharvas, Soma, best among kings—
The gods were defeated by Soma, whose energy is immeasurable.
Indra reported all of Soma's deeds, and, taking up the best weapon, set his mind solely on battle.
He, bearing the discus, bow, and mace, prepared for a great and terrible battle.
Soma, knowing that Vishnu had arrived together with the hosts of Daityas—
He conquered the assembly of gods, along with Indra and Vayu at their head.
When the nose does not rise for battle together with Vishnu,
Then Brahma spoke to the lord of the gods, to the unconquered, imperishable Vishnu,
There is nothing to be slain in the three worlds by this discus of yours, O sinless one.
Therefore, if it is to be employed for the work of the gods, let it be arranged accordingly.
Sinivali and Kuhū are its names; in her, the remover of night is lost.
By attaining Rākā and Anumati, his increase will come; he will deliver offerings from the Brahmins to the gods.
His increase will be through Krishna, but not greater than what has already arisen.
For the unfailing one, there will never be failure at any time.
And Sudarshana's affection will likewise remain.
Brahma spoke to Soma, who approached with humility,
Thus addressed, he brought Tara and gave her to Brihaspati.
In her, the embryo is mine; whatever offspring is born, it is indeed mine.
Since he was born in my field, therefore he is my son.
The seed that is sown and carried by the wind sprouts in whose field?
