Whoever, without envy, always recites, remembers, or even hears this—dear to the immortals—is freed from all sins.
O Pārtha, any woman who, with great devotion, performs this after asking her husband or a worthy teacher,
Thus, in the glorious Bhavishya Mahapurana, in the Uttara Parva, in the dialogue between Shri Krishna and Yudhishthira, the ninety-seventh chapter named 'The Description of the Shiva Chaturdashi Vow' concludes.
The description of the Chaturdashi vow involving the offering of fruits, which bestows inexhaustible rewards in the supreme world and grants all desired results.
In the auspicious month of Margashirsha, on the Chaturdashi day, one who observes the vow—
O best of men, in the other months as well, on the Ashtami day—
Of the eighteen types of grains, except for fruits and roots—
Then, at the end of the year, on the Chaturdashi and Ashtami days—
One should have images of Rudra and Dharmaraja made of gold in the same way.
Mango, amraataka, kapittha, kalinga, and all types of cucumbers—
Jujube, pomegranate, as one is able—these sixteen should be prepared.
Udumbara, coconut, grapes, and two types of brhati—
One should have these sixteen fruits made of silver, according to one's ability.
Pindīraka, date, and also surana tuber—
Citravalli fruit likewise, and the fruit of the kutashalmali tree—
A wise person should have these sixteen fruits made as best as possible, accompanied by two vessels and with Yama and Rudra.
Together with a cow, these should be given to a peaceful Brahmin who has a family.
Just as countless Yamas dwell in all the fruits—
Just as Shiva and Dharma always bestow endless rewards—
Just as the fruits of desire always come to a devotee of Shiva—
Just as I do not perceive any distinction among Shiva, Vishnu, the Sun, and the Lotus-born.
Having thus spoken, and having adorned all that with ornaments, if one is unable, then only the fruits as prescribed should be given.
In the same way, with a water pot, the golden rites of Shiva should be performed, and according to one's ability, other excellent Brahmins should also be fed.
If one is unable to renounce, then indeed all the fruits are lost.
O best of kings, this vow of renunciation is to be performed by cows, Vaishnava yogis, and women, according to their ability.
There is nothing else in this world or the next beyond this.
For as many atoms as are in gold, silver, and copper, for that many thousands of ages one is honored in the realm of Rudra.
O lord of men, this always serves to remove all sins of people for their entire lives.
Whoever hears this, whether a man of little wealth or a Brahmin, or among the righteous in their homes—
The description of the vow of the full moon: That day on which the moon is full is known as the full moon day.
