एकैकेन चतुर्दश्यामर्चयेत्पार्वतीपतिम्
With each of these, on the fourteenth day, one should worship the Lord of Pārvatī.
अन्नैर्नानाविधैर्भक्ष्यैर्वस्त्रैर्माल्यविभूषणैः
With various kinds of food, delicacies, garments, garlands, and ornaments,
उमामहेश्वरं हैमं वृषभं च गवा सह
One should offer a golden image of Umā and Maheśvara, a bull, and cows.
सर्वोपस्करयुक्तायां शय्यायां विनिवेदयेत्
These should be presented upon a bed furnished with all accessories.
स्थाप्य विप्राय शांताय वेदव्रतपराय च
Having established them, one should give them to a peaceful brāhmaṇa devoted to Vedic vows.
अव्यंगाय च सौम्याय सदाकल्याणकारिणे न वित्तशाठ्यं कुर्वीत कुर्वंल्लोभात्पतत्यधः
To one without deformity, gentle, always engaged in auspicious acts; one should not act with deceit for wealth, for acting out of greed leads to downfall.
अनेन विधिना यस्तु कुर्याच्छिवचतुर्दशीम्
Whoever performs the Śiva-caturdaśī with this procedure,
ब्रह्महत्यादिकं पापं यदत्रामुत्र वा कृतम्
Any sin such as brahminicide, committed here or elsewhere,
दीर्घायुरारोग्यकुलाभिवृद्धिरत्राक्षयान्यत्र चतुर्भुजत्वम् 4.97.
Long life, health, unending prosperity of the family, and, elsewhere, the attainment of four-armed form—these result.
न बृहस्पतिरप्यत्मन्नरस्य फलमिंद्रो न पितामहोऽपि वक्तुम्
Not even Bṛhaspati, nor Indra, nor the Grandfather (Brahmā) himself can describe the fruit for a person.
भवत्यमरवल्लभः पठति यः स्मरेद्वा सदा शृणोत्यपि विमत्सरः सकलपापनिर्मोचनीम्
Whoever, without envy, always recites, remembers, or even hears this—dear to the immortals—is freed from all sins.
या पार्थ नारी कुरुतेऽतिभक्त्या भर्त्तारमापृच्छ्य शुभं गुरुं वा
O Pārtha, any woman who, with great devotion, performs this after asking her husband or a worthy teacher,
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराण उत्तरपर्वणि श्रीकृष्णयुधिष्ठिरसंवाद शिवचतुर्दशीव्रतवर्णनं नाम सप्तनवतितमोऽध्यायः
Thus, in the glorious Bhavishya Mahapurana, in the Uttara Parva, in the dialogue between Shri Krishna and Yudhishthira, the ninety-seventh chapter named 'The Description of the Shiva Chaturdashi Vow' concludes.
फलत्यागचतुर्दशीव्रतवर्णनम् यदक्षयं परे लोके सर्वकामफलप्रदम्
The description of the Chaturdashi vow involving the offering of fruits, which bestows inexhaustible rewards in the supreme world and grants all desired results.
मार्गशीर्षे शुभे मासि चतुर्दश्यां धृतव्रतः
In the auspicious month of Margashirsha, on the Chaturdashi day, one who observes the vow—
अन्येष्वपि तु मासेषु अष्टम्यां नरसत्तम
O best of men, in the other months as well, on the Ashtami day—
अष्टादशानां धान्यानामन्यत्र फलमूलकम्
Of the eighteen types of grains, except for fruits and roots—
ततः संवत्सरस्यांते चतुर्दश्यष्टमीषु च
Then, at the end of the year, on the Chaturdashi and Ashtami days—
सौवर्णं कारयेद्रुद्रं धर्मराजं तथैव च
One should have images of Rudra and Dharmaraja made of gold in the same way.
आम्राम्रातकपित्थं च कलिंगं सेर्ववारुकम्?
Mango, amraataka, kapittha, kalinga, and all types of cucumbers—
बदरं दाडिमं शक्त्या कार्याण्येतानि षोडश
Jujube, pomegranate, as one is able—these sixteen should be prepared.
उदुंबरं नालिकेरं द्राक्षा च बृहतीद्वयम्
Udumbara, coconut, grapes, and two types of brhati—
रौप्याणि कारयेच्छक्त्या फलानीमानि षोडश 4.98.
One should have these sixteen fruits made of silver, according to one's ability.
पिंडीरकं च खर्जूरं तथा सूरण कंदकम्
Pindīraka, date, and also surana tuber—
चित्रावल्लीफलं तद्वत्कूटशाल्मलिकाफलम्
Citravalli fruit likewise, and the fruit of the kutashalmali tree—
कारयेच्छक्तितो धीमान्फलान्येतानि षोडश पक्षपात्रद्वयोपेतं यमरुद्रसमन्वितम्
A wise person should have these sixteen fruits made as best as possible, accompanied by two vessels and with Yama and Rudra.
धेन्वा सहैव शांताय विप्रायाथ कुटुंबिने
Together with a cow, these should be given to a peaceful Brahmin who has a family.
यथा फलेषु सर्वेषु वसंत्यमरकोटयः
Just as countless Yamas dwell in all the fruits—
यथा शिवश्च धर्मश्च सदानन्तफलप्रदौ
Just as Shiva and Dharma always bestow endless rewards—
यथा फलानां कामस्य शिवभक्तस्य सर्वदा
Just as the fruits of desire always come to a devotee of Shiva—
