One should recite it one hundred and eight times, and offer one tenth of that in oblations.
Afterward, one should recite the six chapters, which are chiefly about truth, and which bring about its grace.
The first portion is for the teacher and others; the second is for one's own family.
One should give food to the Brahmins, and then eat oneself, observing restraint in speech.
If one performs it with devotion and is endowed with faith,
The actions performed in this birth bear fruit in the next birth.
The Satyanarayana vow here truly grants all desires.
Having spoken thus, the god vanished; Narada went to heaven.
I will now relate this history, the dialogue between Hari and the Brahmin.
In the renowned city of Kashi, there was an excellent Brahmin.
He was known as Shatananda, devoted to the vow of Vishnu.
He was humble and exceedingly peaceful, and appeared before the eyes. 'Where are you going, best of Brahmins? Tell me your livelihood, if you wish.'
I am going to the doors of the wealthy to ask for the best wealth.
This is the particular means for obtaining wealth in the Kali age.
O Brahmin, by my instruction, worship Satyanarayana; go to the lotus-eyed one’s feet for refuge, the giver of liberation.
Thus addressed by Hari, the compassionate one, the Brahmin was enlightened.
Now, in the form of a Brahmin, I have come before you.
For those immersed in the ocean of sorrow, the feet of Hari are the means to cross.
Having gathered the materials for worship, O twice-born, for the benefit of the world,
As he spoke thus, the sage beheld the Supreme Person,
Clad in yellow garments, with eyes like fresh lotus flowers, smiling gently,
Hearing this, his body thrilled, his eyes full of love,
I bow to the Lord of the universe, the cause of all creation,
Who, unmanifest, has become manifest, liberator from the threefold suffering,
Salutations to the true Nārāyaṇa, creator of this, salutations to the pure-souled sustainer of the universe,
Blessed am I today, accomplished, blessed indeed; today my life is fulfilled,
By destiny this has happened—what can I describe? I do not know whose fruit this is,
Worship must be performed for the Lord of the worlds, the consort of Lakṣmī,
Hari spoke to him sweetly, smiling, enchanting the universe,
With what is easily obtained, with mere faith, worship Me,
