Whoever recites or properly hears this, or sees the worship of Madhupura and Naraka,
The vow called Vibhūti Dvādaśī, honored by all the immortals,

On the Dvādaśī, together with the twice-born, I will partake of food, O Lord.
Then, rising at dawn, having bathed and recited prayers, pure—

Obeisance to Kāma (the god of love)—at the genitals; and to the Sun—at the hands.
Obeisance to Mādhava—at the heart; and to Vaikuṇṭha—at the throat.
Obeisance to Śārṅgadhara—at the back; and to Varada—at the ears.
Obeisance to the all-pervading one—at the head, O King; thus one should worship.
Dattātreya, as well as Vyāsa, accompanied by Utpalā.
Having thus completed, as one is able, twelve Dvādaśī observances, a man should offer a bed with delicacies to the best of sages and to the teacher.
One who is able should give a village or a field along with a house.
And, according to his ability, after feeding other excellent Brāhmaṇas as well.
One with little wealth should, as able, perform little by little, with the method of flower-offering, for three years.
Whoever observes the Vibhūti Dvādaśī vow according to this procedure—
For a hundred thousand births, he will not experience the fruit of sorrow.
Whether a devotee of Viṣṇu or of Śiva, in every birth, O King, he will dwell in heaven and be born again as a ruler.
Long ago, in the Rathaṃtara Kalpa, there was a king named Puṣpavāhana.
By his austerity, he pleased the four-faced one, O descendant of Bharata.
Together with all his attendants, and situated within his inner palace.
At the beginning of the kalpa, on the seventh continent, by those dwelling in Puṣkara.
At that very time, a vehicle was given to him by Brahmā, O King.
By the power of the penance of that serpent, who dwells upon Brahmā’s lotus, even in the three worlds—
She became known by the name Lāvaṇyavatī, who was most dear to Bhava, like Pārvatī herself.
Then, seeing all this with his own eyes, the king was repeatedly struck with wonder.
Why is it that I possess such pure glory, and a wife who is worshipped even by mortals, and who surpasses all the beautiful women of the gods?
Even if a hundred million kings, surrounded by ministers, elephants, men, and horses, were to enter it—
What merit could arise from another birth, from the womb of a woman, that would surpass the dharma and other virtues attained by all beings?
