नदीवालुकया पूर्णं लक्ष्म्याकृतिं कृती न्यसेत्
He should place upon it an image of Lakṣmī, made full with river sand.
नमो देव्यै नमः शांत्यै नमो लक्ष्म्यै नमः श्रिये
Salutation to the Goddess, salutation to Peace, salutation to Lakṣmī, salutation to Prosperity.
विशोका दुःखनाशाय विशोका वरदास्तु मे
O Viśokā, for the destruction of suffering—may Viśokā, the bestower of boons, be for me.
ततः शुक्लांबरधरो शूर्पं संवेष्ट्य पूजयेत्
Then, wearing white garments, he should wrap a winnowing basket and worship it.
रजनीषु च सर्वासु पिबेद्दर्भोदकं व्रती
During all the nights, the vow-observer should drink water touched by darbha grass.
यामत्रये व्यतीते तु सुप्त्वा स्वस्थोपमानसः
When the three watches of the night have passed, having slept, he should awaken with a tranquil mind.
शक्तितस्त्रीणि चैकं वा वस्त्रमाल्यानुलेपनैः 4.84.
To the best of his ability, he should offer three or even one garment, garland, and ointment.
ततस्तु गीतवाद्याद्यै रात्रौ जागरणे कृते
Then, with singing, music, and the like, he should keep vigil at night.
भोजनं च यथाशक्त्या वित्तशाठ्यविवर्जितः
He should take food according to his capacity, free from miserliness regarding wealth.
अनेन विधिना सर्वं मासिमासि समाचरेत् सोपधानकविश्राममास्तरावरणं शुभम्
In this manner, one should perform everything each month, with auspicious bedding, resting place, and coverings.
यथा न लक्ष्मीर्देवेश त्वां परित्यज्य गच्छति
Just as Lakshmi, O Lord of the gods, never departs from you,
यथा देवेन रहिता न लक्ष्यीर्जायते क्वचित्
Just as Lakshmi, when separated from the god, is never seen anywhere,
मंत्रेणानेन ध्यात्वा तु गुडधेनुसमन्वितम्
By meditating with this mantra, together with a sweet cow,
उत्पातं करवीरं च बाणमम्लान कुंडलम् कादंबैः कुंकुमैर्जात्या तथान्यैरपि पूजयेत्
One should worship with karavīra flowers, a fresh arrow, an unwithering earring, kadamba flowers, saffron, jasmine, and other offerings.
किंरूपा केन मंत्रेण दातव्या तदिहोच्यताम्
What form, with which mantra, should it be given? Let that be spoken here.
तदिदानीं प्रवक्ष्यामि सर्वपापप्रणाशनम्
Now I shall declare that which destroys all sins.
कृष्णाजिनं चतुर्हस्तं प्रागेवं विन्यसेद्भुवि ।। 4.84.
A four-handed black antelope skin should first be placed on the ground.
लब्धेन कांचनं तद्वद्वत्सं च परिकल्पयेत्
With what is obtained, one should similarly arrange gold and a calf.
उत्तमा गुडधेनुः स्यात्सदा भार चतुष्टया ३२. चतुर्थांशेन वत्सः स्याद्गृहवित्ता नुसारतः
The best sweet cow should always have fourfold weight; the calf should be a quarter of that, according to the wealth of the house.
धेनुवत्सौ कृतावेतौ सितसूक्ष्मांबरावृतौ
These two, the cow and calf, should be made, clothed in fine white garments.
सितसूत्रशिरालौ तु सितकंबल कंबलौ
With white-threaded heads and white blankets as coverings,
विद्रुमभ्रूयुगावेतौ नवनीतस्तनान्वितौ
With coral eyebrows, endowed with butter-filled udders,
सुवर्णशृंगाभरणौ राजतखुरसंयुतौ इत्येवं रचयित्वा तु धूपदीपैरथार्चयेत्
With golden horn ornaments and silver hooves; having thus fashioned them, one should worship with incense and lamps.
या लक्ष्मीः सर्वभूतानां या च देवे व्यवस्थिता
That Lakshmi who belongs to all beings, and who is established among the gods,
विष्णोर्वक्षसि या लक्ष्मीः स्वाहायां च विभावसौ
That Lakshmi who is on Vishnu's chest, and in the offering to fire,
चतुर्मुखस्य या लक्ष्मीर्या लक्ष्मीर्धनदस्य च ।। 4.84.
That Lakshmi of the four-faced one, and that Lakshmi of the lord of wealth,
स्वधा त्वं पितृमुख्यानां स्वाहा यज्ञभुजां पुनः
You are svadhā for the chief ancestors, and svāhā again for the eaters of sacrifice.
एवमामंत्र्य तां धेनुं ब्राह्मणाय निवे दयेत्
Having thus invoked that cow, one should give it to a Brahmin.
यास्तु पापविनाशिन्यः श्रूयते दश धेनवः
The ten cows that are heard of as destroyers of sin—
प्रथमा गुडधेनुः स्याद् घृतधेनुरथापरा
