नरसिंहाय पादौ तु गोविंदायोदरं तथा
To Narasimha, the feet; to Govinda, the abdomen likewise,
कंठं तु शितिकंठाय वैनतेयाय वै शिरः . 4.83.
The throat to Shitikaṇṭha, and the head indeed to Vainateya.
शंखमित्येव संपूज्य गंधपुष्पैः फलैस्तथा
One should worship the conch in this way with fragrant substances, flowers, and fruits.
तस्योपरि नृसिंहं तु सौवर्णं ताम्रभाजने
Above it, one should place a golden image of Narasimha in a copper vessel.
रत्नगर्भमये स्थाप्य भक्त्या संपूज्य मानवः
One should install it in a jewel-encrusted vessel and worship with devotion.
एषा वंद्या पापहरा द्वादशी भवते मया
This twelfth day, praised by me, is sin-destroying.
एवमेनां नरव्याघ्र चैत्रे संकल्प्य द्वादशीम्
In the same way, O tiger among men, one should resolve to observe the twelfth day in the month of Chaitra.
कुण्डिकां स्थापयेत्पार्श्वे छत्रिकां पादुके तथा
One should place a water pot at the side, as well as an umbrella and sandals.
फलैः पुष्पैः सुगन्धैश्च प्रभाते सद्द्विजातये
With fruits, flowers, and fragrant substances, in the morning, to a worthy twice-born one,
मासनाम्नात्र संयुक्तं प्रादुर्भावं विधानतः
One should, according to rule, present the manifestation together with the name of the month.
अपुत्रो लभते पुत्रमधनो धनमाप्नुयात्
A man without a son obtains a son; a poor man acquires wealth.
क्रीडित्वा सुचिरं कालमिह मर्त्यमुपागतः 4.83.
Having played for a long time, he has now come to the mortal world.
वैशाखेऽप्येवमेवं तु संकल्प्य विधिवन्नरः
In the month of Vaiśākha also, in this same way, a man should make a proper resolve.
तत्राराध्य हरिं भक्त्या एभिर्मन्त्रैर्विचक्षणः
There, worshipping Hari with devotion, the wise man should use these mantras.
मधुसूदनायेति कटिमुरः श्रीवत्सधारिणे
Reciting 'To Madhusūdana, who bears the Śrīvatsa mark on his waist and chest,'
पूजयेन्नियतो भूत्वा सुरूपायेति वै मुखम्
He should worship, being disciplined, the beautiful-faced one, at the face.
एवमभ्यर्च्य मेधावी प्राग्वंशस्याग्रतो घटम्
Thus, having worshipped, the wise man should place a pot before the eastern line.
वैणवेऽभिनवे पात्रे स्थापयेन्मधुसूदनम्
In a new vessel made of bamboo, he should install Madhusūdana.
दक्षिणे परशुं हस्ते तस्य देवस्य कारयेत्
He should arrange for an axe in the right hand of that deity.
ततस्तस्याग्रतः कुर्याज्जागरं भक्तिमान्नरः
Then, in front of him, the devoted man should perform a vigil.
एवं नियमयुक्तस्य यत्फलं तन्निबोध मे स्थित्वा भौते च सृष्टौ च चक्रवर्ती भवेद्ध्रुवम्
Now hear from me the result for one who observes such discipline: he certainly becomes a universal sovereign, both in the created world and in existence.
ज्येष्ठे मासेऽप्येवमेव संकल्प्य विधिवन्नरः 4.83.
In the month of Jyeṣṭha also, in this same way, a man should make a proper resolve.
नमो दामोदरायेति पादौ पूर्वं समर्चयेत्
Reciting 'Salutations to Dāmodara,' he should first worship the feet.
उरः संवर्तकायेति कण्ठं संवत्सराय च
Reciting 'To the one with the gathered chest,' and 'To the Lord of the year,' he should worship the throat.
सहस्रशिरसेऽभ्यर्च्य शिरस्तस्य महात्मनः
Having worshipped the thousand-headed great soul, he should worship his head.
प्राग्वद्वस्त्रसुगन्धैश्च सौवर्णौ रामलक्ष्मणौ दातव्यौ मनसा काममीहता पुरुषेण तु
As before, with garments and fragrances, the two golden images of Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa should be given by the man who desires his wish in his heart.
अपुत्रेण पुरा पृष्टो राज्ञा दशरथेन तु
Formerly, when questioned by King Daśaratha, who was without a son,
इदमेव विधानं तु कथयामास वै द्विजः
This very procedure was explained by the Brāhmaṇa.
तस्य पुत्रः स्वयं जज्ञे रामो नाम महाबलः एतदेवं मयाख्यातं परलोके सुखप्र दम्
His son was born himself, named Rāma, of great strength; thus I have described this, which bestows happiness in the next world.
अर्चयेत्परमं देवं गंधपुष्पैः समाहितः
One should worship the Supreme Lord with fragrances and flowers, with a concentrated mind.
