दाराः पुत्राश्च भृत्याश्च पापबुद्ध्या मया भृताः
With sinful intent, I maintained wives, sons, and servants.
दाराः पुत्राश्च भृत्यार्थे मया न्यायार्थसंचयः 4.82.
For the sake of wives, sons, and servants, I gathered wealth by just means.
क्षतपापं मया भुक्तमन्यैस्तत्कर्म संचितम्
I consumed what was tainted by sin, while others enjoyed the fruits of my actions.
यन्ममत्वाभिभूतेन मया पापमुपार्जितम्
Whatever sin I accumulated, overpowered by attachment—
अंतर्दुःखेन दग्धोऽहं बहिर्दह्यामि भावयन्
Burned within by hidden sorrow, I am scorched outwardly as I reflect.
कुरु तस्मात्समुद्धारं पश्यस्यमृतसागरम्
Therefore, deliver me, for you see the immortal ocean.
प्रक्षीणं पापमेतावत्सुवृत्तं चास्ति ते परम्
Your sin is now diminished, and your conduct is supremely virtuous.
प्रतीते दशमे जन्मन्यच्युताराधनेच्छया न च तस्याः प्रसादेन पापमत्यन्तदुर्जयम्
In the tenth birth, with the desire to worship the infallible, and not by her grace, is the most difficult sin overcome.
अल्पैरहोभिः संक्षीणमामपात्रे यथा जलम्
In a few days, sin is diminished, as water in an unbaked vessel.
नाशं पापस्य कुरुते जयं सुकृतकर्मणः
He does not bring about the destruction of sin, but the victory of virtuous deeds.
यथैतद्वदतार्तेन भवता परिदेवितम्
Just as you, afflicted, have lamented in this way—
पापमत्र कृतं प्रेत्य भद्र तापाय जायते 4.82.
The sin committed here, good one, becomes suffering after death.
सीरभद्रं समाश्वास्य ययावित्थं महामुनिः
Having comforted Sīrabhadra, the great sage departed as he had come.
उपवासप्रभावश्च कथितस्ते नरोत्तम
O best of men, I have explained to you the power of fasting.
तस्मान्नरेण पुण्याय यतितव्यं न पातकम्
Therefore, a man should strive for merit and not for sin.
पुरुषैर्भुज्यते शश्वत्तं मोक्षं वद सत्तम
Tell me, O noble one, about that liberation which is eternally enjoyed by men.
जया सा द्वादशी शस्ता नृणां सुकृतकर्मणाम्
That twelfth day, called Jayā, is auspicious for those who have performed good deeds.
फाल्गुनामलपक्षस्य एकादश्यामुपोषितः
One who fasts on the eleventh day of the bright half of Phālguna—
एकादश्यां समुत्तिष्ठन्विष्णोर्नामानुकीर्तयन्
Rising on the eleventh day, reciting the names of Viṣṇu—
कामं क्रोधं च लोभं च मदं मोहं च वर्जयेत् ४८- एवं भावितचित्तेन प्राणिनां हितमिच्छता
He should abandon desire, anger, greed, pride, and delusion—thus, with a mind intent on good, wishing for the welfare of living beings.
नमो नारायणायेति वक्तव्यं स्वपता निशि 4.82.
While lying down at night, one should say: 'Obeisance to Nārāyaṇa.'
सौवर्णताम्रपात्राणि मृन्मयान्यपि पांडव
O Pāṇḍava, vessels of gold, copper, and even clay—
आषाढादिद्वितीयं तु पारयेच्च महामते
O wise one, on the second day beginning with Āṣāḍha, one should cross over.
कार्त्तिकादिषु मासेषु माघांतेषु तथा तिलान्
In the months beginning with Kārttika and at the end of Māgha, likewise, sesame seeds—
नामत्रयमशेषेण मासिमासि दिनद्वयम् प्रणम्य च हृषीकेशं कृतपूजः प्रसादयेत्
The three names, in their entirety, should be recited for two days each month; having worshipped and bowed to Hṛṣīkeśa, one should seek his favor.
विष्णो नमस्ते जगती प्रसोत्रे श्रीवासुदेवाय नमो नमस्ते
O Viṣṇu, obeisance to you, Lord of the world, obeisance to Śrī Vāsudeva, obeisance, obeisance.
प्रसीद पुण्यं जयमेति विष्णो श्रीवासुदेवर्द्धिमुपैतु पुण्यम्
Be gracious, O Viṣṇu; may merit and victory come; may the merit of Śrī Vāsudeva increase.
विष्णो पुण्योद्भवो मेस्तु वासुदेवास्तु मे शुभम्
May Viṣṇu, the source of merit, be for me; may Vāsudeva bring me auspiciousness.
अनेक जन्मजनितं बाल्ययौवनवार्द्धके
That which has arisen from many births, in childhood, youth, and old age—
आकाशादिषु शब्दादौ श्रोत्रादौ महदादिषु
In space and so on, in sound and so on, in hearing and so on, and in the great elements—
