यंयं काममभिध्याय व्रतमेतदुपोषितम्
Whatever desire one contemplates while observing this vow and fast,
अपुत्रो लभते पुत्रमधनो लभते धनम्
The childless obtain a son, the poor obtain wealth.
समागमं प्रवसनैरुपोष्यैतामवाप्यते
By observing this, those separated by travel attain reunion.
नापुत्रो नाधनो ज्येष्ठो वियोगी न च निर्गुणः
None remain childless, poor, eldest, separated, or lacking qualities.
स्वर्गलोके सहस्राणि वर्षाणामयुतानि च
In heaven, for thousands and tens of thousands of years,
इह पुण्यवतां नॄणां धनिनां लघुशालिनाम्
Here, among the virtuous, the wealthy, and those of light burden,
न द्वादशीमुपवसन्ति मनोरथाख्यां नैवार्चयंति पुरुषोत्तममादिदेवम् 4.80.
Those who do not observe the twelfth day called Manoratha, nor worship the Supreme Person, the original Lord, do not attain these results.
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराण उत्तरपर्वणि श्रीकृष्णयुधिष्ठिरसंवादे मनोरथद्वादशीव्रतवर्णनं नामाशीतितमोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the eightieth chapter named 'Description of the Manoratha Dvadashi Vow' in the dialogue between Sri Krishna and Yudhishthira, in the Uttaraparvan of the glorious Bhavishya Mahapurana.
उल्कानवमीव्रतवर्णनम् पापं प्रशममायाति येन तद्वक्तुमर्हसि
You should describe that by which sin is pacified.
यामुपोष्य परं पुण्यमाप्नुयाच्छ्रद्धयान्वितः
By observing which, one endowed with faith attains supreme merit.
माघमासे च संप्राप्ते आषाढर्क्षं भवेद्यदि
When the month of Māgha arrives, if the lunar mansion is Āṣāḍhā,
गृह्णीयात्पुण्यफलदं विधानं तस्य मे शृणु
One should undertake the rite that yields merit; listen to its procedure from me.
कृष्णनाम्ना च संपूज्य एकादश्यां महामते
On the eleventh day, O wise one, worship with the name 'Kṛṣṇa.'
संस्तूय नाम्ना तेनैव कृष्णाख्येन पुनःपुनः
Praise repeatedly with that very name, called 'Kṛṣṇa.'
ततश्च प्राशयेच्छस्तांस्तथा कृष्णतिलान्नृप
Then, O king, offer those auspicious black sesame seeds as food.
कृष्णकुंभांस्तिलैः सार्द्धं पक्वान्नेन च संयुताः ब्राह्मणेभ्यः प्रदेयास्ते यथावन्माससंख्यया
Black clay pots filled with sesame seeds, together with cooked food, should be properly given to Brāhmaṇas according to the number of months.
तिलप्ररोहाज्जायंते यावत्संख्यास्तिला नृप अरोगो जायते नित्यं नरो जन्मनिजन्मनि
As many sesame seeds as sprout, O king, so many are to be given; a person is always born healthy in every birth.
अंधो न बधिरश्चैव न कुष्ठी न च कुत्सितः 4.81.
He is not born blind, nor deaf, nor leprous, nor deformed.
अनेन पार्थ विधिना तिलदाता न संशयः
By this procedure, O Pārtha, there is no doubt for the giver of sesame.
दानं विधिस्तथा श्राद्धं सर्वपातकशांतये
The rite of giving and the śrāddha thus prescribed are for the pacification of all sins.
सर्वोपभोगनिरतोह्नि परे दशम्यां स्नानं तिलैस्तिलनिवेदनकृत्तिलाशी
One devoted to all enjoyments, on the next day, on Daśamī, should bathe with sesame, offer sesame, and eat sesame.
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराण उत्तरपर्वणि श्रीकृष्णयुधिष्ठिरसंवादे उल्कानवमीव्रतवर्णनं नामैकाशीतितमोऽध्यायः
Thus, in the glorious Bhaviṣya Mahāpurāṇa, in the Uttara Parva, in the dialogue between Śrī Kṛṣṇa and Yudhiṣṭhira, the eighty-first chapter named 'Description of the Ulkānavamī Vow' is concluded.
सुकृतद्वादशीव्रतवर्णनम् तदपापाय भवति तदाचक्ष्व यदूत्तम
Describe that, O best of the Yadus, by which one becomes free from sin.
उपवासप्रभावं वै कृष्णाराधनकांक्षिणाम्
The power of fasting indeed, for those desiring the worship of Kṛṣṇa.
आमुष्मिकं न तापाय प्रतापाय च जायते
It does not cause suffering in the next world, but rather brings glory.
उपोषितप्रभावं च कृष्णाराधनकांक्षिणाम्
And the effect of fasting for those desiring the worship of Kṛṣṇa.
वैदिशं नाम नगरं प्रख्यातं नृपसत्तम
There is a city named Vaidiśa, renowned, O best of kings.
भार्यया मातृदुहिता पुत्रपौत्रैः समन्वितः
He was accompanied by his wife, mother, daughter, sons, and grandsons.
पुत्रपौत्रादिभरणे व्यासक्तिर्मतिरेव च
His mind was attached to supporting sons, grandsons, and others.
चकारानुदिनं सोऽथ न्यायान्यायैर्द्धनार्जनम्
Day by day, he acquired wealth by both just and unjust means.
