I was worshipped by the gods with flowers, curd, milk, and rice grains.
And by the Mallinis with liquor, meat, bodily vigils, and dances.
With foods to be eaten, foods to be enjoyed, and drinks—curds, milk, ghee, and sweet beverages,
With gatherings in abundance, the young women converse affectionately with one another,
With relatives in due order, and with the wrestlers, each separately,
From the month of Āśvina until Kārtika, with devotion, by the twelve names,
Keśava, Nārāyaṇa, Mādhava, Govinda, Viṣṇu, Madhusūdana, Trivikrama, Vāmana, Śrīdhara, Hṛṣīkeśa, Padmanābha, Dāmodara—salutations, salutations to them.
With fragrances, flowers, incense, lamps, and night vigils, with songs, instruments, and dances, with the shouts and contests of wrestlers,
With offerings of ghee and milk, may Kṛṣṇa be pleased with me.
This Dvādaśī, which even today increases the joy of my heart,
By my grace, O son of Dharma, strength, fame, renown, and wealth
To those devotees of mine who will perform it, I shall grant what is cherished in their hearts.
At the foot of the Bhāṇḍīra tree, with great wrestlers assembled, whose arms and strength are undiminished,
Thus, in the glorious Bhaviṣya Mahāpurāṇa, in the Uttara Parvan, in the dialogue between Śrī Kṛṣṇa and Yudhiṣṭhira, is the seventy-third chapter named 'Description of the Malladvādaśī Vow.'
The description of the Bhīma-Dvādaśī vow.
Formerly, the father of Damayantī, the father-in-law of Nala on earth,
He was devoted to truthfulness and character, intent on protecting his people.
While ruling his kingdom according to the precepts of scripture,
He, a treasury of all knowledge, glorious, prompted by a pilgrimage,
Having risen, the king offered his desired seat,
And, with joined palms, he offered his kingdom along with himself.
O king, does your mind always remain steadfast in righteousness?
By your arrival, I am purified, as if by the water of holy association.
Thus, after exchanging greetings and conversing with each other,
Then, at the end of the conversation, O king, Pulastya, filled with wonder,
O venerable one, all living beings are caught in the midst of the ocean of worldly existence.
They dwell in hell, in the womb, and are afflicted by diseases and birth.
Many, tormented and lamenting, live by causing suffering to others.
Seeing all these things, my mind has become greatly troubled.
Out of a desire for your favor, tell me what brings benefit.
