यंयं दामोदरः पश्येदुत्थितो धरणीधरः
Whomever Damodara, arisen, beholds—he who upholds the earth—
रात्रौ प्रजागरे देवमेकादश्यां सुरालये
During the night, keeping vigil, the deity in the abode of gods on the eleventh day—
होमयेद्धव्यवाहं च हव्यद्रव्यैर्घृतादिभिः
One should offer oblations with sacrificial materials such as ghee and the like.
घृतदधिक्षौद्रकाद्यैर्गुडधूपैः समोदकैः
With ghee, curds, honey, and others, incense of jaggery, and water mixed with fragrance—
एकादश दशाष्टौ वा पंच द्वौ वा कुरूत्तम
Eleven, ten, eight, five, or two, O best of Kurus—
श्रद्धोक्तविधिना पार्थ भोजयेद्भाग्यवान्यतीन्
According to the prescribed method of faith, O Partha, one should feed fortunate ascetics.
स्ववाचा स्वमनोभीष्टपत्रपुष्पफलादिकम् 4.70.
With one's own words and heartfelt wishes, one should offer leaves, flowers, fruits, and the like.
कथयित्वा द्विजेभ्यस्तं दद्याद्भक्त्या सदक्षिणाम्
Having spoken thus to the twice-born, one should give with devotion and proper gifts.
यत्त्यक्तं चतुरो मासान्प्रवृत्तिन्तस्य चाचरेत्
Whatever has been renounced for four months, one should continue that practice.
अवसाने तु राजेन्द्र वासुदेवपुरीं व्रजेत्
At the conclusion, O king, one should go to the city of Vasudeva.
स भवेत्कृतकृत्यस्तु न पुनर्मातृको भवेत्
He becomes one who has fulfilled his purpose and is not born again from a mother.
उत्थानं चापि कृष्णस्य स हरेर्लोकमाप्नुयात् विष्णोर्भक्तिं परां पार्थ स गच्छेद्वैष्णवं पदम्
And the awakening of Krishna—he attains the world of Hari; with supreme devotion to Vishnu, O Partha, he reaches the Vaishnava abode.
दुग्धाब्धिभोगशयने भगवाननन्तो यस्मिन्दिने स्वपिति यत्र विबुध्यते वा
On the day when the infinite Lord rests upon the couch of the milk ocean, when he sleeps or awakens—
नीराजनद्वादशीव्रतवर्णनम् प्रार्थितः स प्रजाभिस्तु सर्वदुःखापनुत्तये
Description of the Nīrājana Dvādaśī vow: Requested by the people for the removal of all suffering.
दुःखापनोदं कुरु भो व्याधितानां नरेश्वर
O king, remove the suffering of those afflicted by disease.
पालयामास हृष्टोऽसावजपालस्ततोऽभवत्

तिष्ठंति पार्थिवाः सर्वे पुरःसेवाविधायिनः
All the kings stand, performing duties of royal service.
संदृश्य रावणः प्राह प्रशस्तं प्रतिहारकम्
Seeing this, Ravana spoke to the distinguished doorkeeper.
स उवाच प्रणम्याग्रे दंडपाणिर्निशाचरः
He replied, bowing with his staff in hand, the night-wanderer.
ययातिर्नहुषो भीमो राघवोयं विदूरथः

मेघाकारास्तव स्थाने नाजपाल इहागतः

इत्युक्ते प्रहितो दूतो धूम्राक्षो नाम राक्षसः

सेवां कुरु समागच्छ कबन्धो यस्य पार्थिवः
