मुक्ताट्टहासभैरवदुःसहतरचकितसकलदिक्चक्रा
With a liberated, thunderous laugh of Bhairava, she caused all the quarters of the sky to tremble in terror, unable to endure her might.
पटुपटहमुरजमर्दलझल्लरिझङ्कारनर्तितावयवा
Her limbs danced to the resounding clamor of drums, kettledrums, mṛdaṅgas, and the jingling of cymbals.
शांता प्रशांतवदना सिंहवरा ध्यानयोगत न्निष्ठा
Peaceful, with a tranquil face, the lion-like heroines were steadfast in the practice of meditative yoga.
पक्षपुटचंचुघातैः संचूर्णितविविधशत्रुसंघाता 4.61.
With the strokes of their wings and beaks, they crushed the multitude of various enemies.
पर्यटति जगति हष्टा पितृवननिलयेषु योगिनीसहिता
She joyfully wandered the world, accompanied by yoginīs, in the abodes of the ancestors.
इति नवदुर्गासंस्तवमनुपममार्याभिरपरराट् कृत्वा
Thus, the other king composed this matchless hymn of praise to the Nine Durgās with noble words.
पुनःपुनः प्रणम्योचुर्भवानीं सिंहवाहिनीम्
Again and again, bowing down, they addressed Bhavānī, the lion-rider.
देवानां तद्वचः श्रुत्वा दत्त्वा तेभ्योऽभयं ततः
Hearing those words of the gods, she then granted them freedom from fear.
युयुधे दानवैस्सार्धं महासमरदुर्दिनम्
She fought together with the demons in that dreadful, great battle.
तेऽपि तत्रासुराः प्राप्ताः प्रचंडा रुद्ररूपिणः
There too arrived the fierce demons, taking on the forms of Rudra.
महाग्राहपराक्रांता दुष्टमायाविनष्टये
Possessed of immense strength, they came to destroy the wicked masters of illusion.
इन्द्रमारी असत्क्लेशः प्रलंबो नरकः सुतः
Indramārī, Asatkleśa, Pralaṃba, Naraka, and Suta appeared.
इल्वलो नमुचिर्भौमो वातापि धेनुकः कलिः
Ilvala, Namuci, Bhauma, Vātāpi, Dhenuka, and Kali were present.
रहः पौंडूादिदैत्येन्द्राः प्राधान्येन प्रकीर्तिताः 4.61.
Secretly, Pauṇḍra and other chief lords of the Daityas were especially mentioned.
रूपतो वर्णिताश्चैव ध्वजास्तेषां पृथक्पृथक्
Their forms were described, and their banners were each distinct.
काञ्चनाः काञ्चना पीडाः काञ्चनस्रगलंकृताः
Golden were their standards, golden their seats, adorned with golden garlands.
नील्यः पीताः सिता रक्ताः कृष्णास्राः पञ्चवर्णकाः
They were blue, yellow, white, red, and black—of five colors.
पताकाकान्तिरनला नर्तक्य इव शोभनाः
Their banners shone like fire, splendid as dancers.
ततो हलहलारावं चक्रुस्ते दानवोत्तमाः न्यवादयंतानकान्ये शंखाडंबरडिंडिमान्
Then the foremost Dānavas raised a tumultuous roar, sounding drums, conches, kettledrums, and tabors.
एवं ते समयुध्यंत भवानीं दैत्यदानवाः कर्णकैरीषणैः कुन्तैः शतघ्नीकूटमुद्गरैः
Thus, the Daityas and Dānavas fought against Bhavānī with arrows, spears, lances, javelins, iron clubs, and maces.
आहत्य मानरोषेण जज्वलुः समरेऽधिकम्
Struck with fierce anger, they blazed even more intensely in the battle.
आच्छिद्याच्छिद्य चिह्नानि ध्वजान्नानाविधांस्तथा
Cutting and tearing down the various marks and banners,
चिह्नकानि ददौ तुष्टा देवेभ्यः शीघ्रचारिणी
The swift-moving goddess, pleased, gave new emblems to the gods.
अंबिका तु भृशं तुष्टा तेषां चक्रे क्षणात्क्षयम् जीवितानि च जग्राह दैत्यानां देवनंदिनी ।।4.61.
Ambikā, greatly delighted, instantly destroyed them and took the lives of the Daityas, she who brings joy to the gods.
अथ रक्तासुरं कंठे गृहीत्वापात्य भूतले
Then, seizing Raktāsura by the throat, she threw him down to the ground.
स भिन्नहृदयः पश्चाद्भूमौ तत्र प्रपोथितः
His heart split, he was then dashed upon the earth.
देवास्तानसुराञ्जित्वा गत्वा शत्रुपुरं जितम् यात्रां चक्रुः संप्रहृष्टा नवम्यां ध्वजचिह्निताम्
The gods, having defeated those Asuras, entered the conquered enemy city and joyfully began a procession on the ninth day, marked by banners.
अतोद्यापीह भूपालैर्जयलब्धीच्छयादृतैः
Here, the kings, eager for victory, played musical instruments.
सरहस्यं समंत्रं च येन तुष्यति चंडिका
With all secrets and mantras by which Caṇḍikā is pleased.
तस्यां स्नात्वा शुभैः पुष्पैरर्चनीया हरेः स्वसा
Having bathed there, one should worship the sister of Hari with auspicious flowers.
