पंचरत्नफलैर्युक्ताञ्छाखाभिरपि वेष्टितान्
Adorned with branches encircled by the fruits of five jewels,
सुशुद्धां मृदमानीय सर्वेष्वेव विनिक्षिपेत्
One should bring pure clay and place it in all of them.
गृहीत्वा ब्राह्मणं चात्र सौरान्मन्त्रानुदीरयेत्
Taking a Brāhmaṇa here, one should recite the Sauramantras.
भोजिताभिर्यथाशक्ति माल्यवस्त्रविभूषणैः
Having fed them to the best of one’s ability, with garlands, garments, and ornaments,
दीर्घायुरस्तु बालोऽयं जीवपुत्रा च भाविनी
May this boy have long life, and may the future daughter live as well.
शक्रः सलोकपालो वै ब्रह्मा विष्णुर्महेश्वरः
May Indra, along with the guardians of the worlds, Brahmā, Viṣṇu, and Maheśvara,
माशनिर्मा स हुतभुङ्मा च बालग्रहा क्वचित्
May Māśanirmā, Hutabhuk, and the planetary influences on children never be present.
ततः शुक्लाम्बरधराः कुमारं पतिसंयुताः
Then, women dressed in white garments, together with their husbands, approach the boy.
काञ्चनीं च ततः कृत्वा तिलपात्रोपरि स्थिताम् 4.52.
Then, having made a golden (object), they place it upon a vessel of sesame.
वस्त्रकाञ्चनरत्नौघैर्भक्ष्यैः सघृतपायसैः भुक्त्वा च गुरुणा चेयमुच्चार्या मंत्रसंततिः
With garments, gold, heaps of jewels, and foods along with ghee and milk-rice, after eating, the teacher should recite this series of mantras.
दीर्घायुरस्तु बालोऽयं यावद्वर्षशतं सुखी
May this boy have long life, happy for a hundred years.
ब्रह्मा रुद्रो विष्णुः स्कन्दो वायुः शक्रो हुताशनः
Brahmā, Rudra, Viṣṇu, Skanda, Vāyu, Śakra, and Agni—
एवमादीनि चान्यानि वदतः पूजयेद्गुरून्
And others like these, as they are named, one should worship the teachers.
चरुं च पुत्रसहिता प्रणम्य रविशंकरौ
With his son, bowing to Ravi and Śaṃkara, he should offer the cooked oblation.
अयमेवाद्भुतं योगो ह्यद्भुतेषु च शस्यते शांत्यर्थं शुक्लसप्तम्यामेतत्कुर्वन्न सीदति
This indeed is a wondrous rite, praised among marvels; performing this on the bright seventh for peace, one does not fail.
पुण्यं पवित्रमायुष्यं सप्तमीस्नपनं रविः
The seventh-day bath for the Sun is meritorious, pure, and life-giving.
स चानेन विधानेन कार्तवीर्योऽर्जुनो नृपः
And by this procedure, King Kārtavīrya Arjuna performed (it).
आरोग्यं भास्कारादिच्छेद्धनमिच्छेद्धुताशनात्
He should seek health from the Sun and wealth from Agni.
एतन्महापातकनाशनं स्यादप्यक्षयं वेदविदः पठंति 4.52.
This is said to destroy even great sins, and those who know the Veda recite it as inexhaustible.
इति श्रीभविष्ये महापुराण उत्तरपर्वणि श्रीकृष्णयुधिष्ठिरसंवादे स्नपनसप्तमीव्रतवर्णनं नाम द्विपंचाशत्तमोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the fifty-second chapter, named 'The Description of the Snapanasaptamī Vow,' in the dialogue between Śrī Kṛṣṇa and Yudhiṣṭhira, in the Uttaraparvan of the Śrī Bhaviṣya Mahāpurāṇa.
अचलासप्तमीव्रतवर्णनम् अध्रुवेण शरीरेण सुपक्वेनापि किं फलम्
Description of the Acalāsaptamī Vow: What is the use of a body that is impermanent, even if it is fully matured?
प्रातःस्नानासमर्थानां शरीरं पश्य देहिनाम्
Behold the bodies of embodied beings who are unable to bathe in the morning.
कायक्लेशसहा नार्यो न भवंति यदूत्तम
O best of the Yadus, women who cannot endure bodily hardship do not exist.
कथं च ताः सुरूपाः स्युः सुभगाः सुप्रजास्तथा
How then can they be beautiful, fortunate, and blessed with good children?
अल्पायासेन सुमहद्येन पुण्यमवाप्यते
With little effort, one attains great merit.
यन्मया कस्यचिन्नोक्तमचलासप्तमीव्रतम्
That Acalāsaptamī vow, which I have spoken of to someone,
वेश्या चेन्दुमती नाम रूपौदार्यगुणान्विता
There was a courtesan named Indumatī, endowed with beauty, generosity, and virtues.
तनुमध्या सुजघना पीनोन्नतपयोधरा
She had a slender waist, lovely hips, and full, high breasts.
सौंदर्यं सौकुमार्यं च तस्याः कामेन गीयते
Her beauty and delicacy were sung of by Kāma.
मूर्तिः शशधरस्येव नयनानन्दकारिणी 4.53.
Her form was like the moon, bringing delight to the eyes.
