प्रयागनगरे रम्ये भूमिराजयमचीकरत्
In the beautiful city of Prayaga, he performed the earth's sovereignty.
मायादेवीप्रसन्नार्थे शतं यज्ञमचीकरत्
For the pleasure of the gracious Maya Devi, he performed a hundred sacrifices.
तस्य पुत्रो बुधो नाम मेरुदेवस्य वै सुतः
His son was named Budha, indeed the son of Merudeva.
चतुर्दशसहस्राणि भूमिराज्यमचीकरत्
He performed the sovereignty of the earth for fourteen thousand years.
आयुर्नाम सुतो जातो धर्मात्मा विष्णुतत्परः
A son named Ayu was born to him, righteous and devoted to Vishnu.
गंधर्वलोकं संप्राप्य मोदते दिवि देववत्
Having attained the world of the Gandharvas, he rejoices in heaven like a god.
पितुस्तुल्यं कृतं राज्यं ततः शक्रत्वमागतः
He ruled the kingdom just like his father, and then attained the status of Indra.
मुनेर्दुवाससः शापान्नृपोऽजगरतां गतः
Because of the curse of the sage Durvasa, the king became a serpent.
द्वौ तथार्यत्वमापन्नौ यदुज्येष्ठः पुरुर्लघुः
Thus, two attained the status of Arya: Yadu, the eldest, and Puru, the youngest.
कृत्वा विष्णुप्रसादेन ततो वैकुण्ठमागतः 3.1.2.
Having done so by the grace of Vishnu, he then reached Vaikuntha.
वृजिनघ्नस्सुतस्तस्माद्राज्यं विंशत्सहस्रकम्
From him was born a son, Vṛjinaghna, who ruled for twenty thousand years.
तस्माच्चित्ररथः पुत्रः कृतं राज्यं पितुस्समम्
From him, Citraratha was born, who ruled the kingdom just as his father had.
अथ श्रवास्ततो जातस्तेजस्वी विष्णुतत्परः
Then from him was born Śravās, radiant and devoted to Vishnu.
पितुस्तुल्यं कृतं राज्यं तस्मादुशनस्सुतः
He ruled the kingdom as his father had; from him came the son Uśanas.
पितुस्तुल्यं कृतं राज्यं कमलांशुस्ततोऽभवत्
He ruled the kingdom as his father had; then Kamalāṃśu was born from him.
पितुस्तुल्यं कृतं राज्यं पारावतसुतस्ततः
He ruled the kingdom as his father had; then Pārāvata's son was born from him.
पितुस्तुल्यं कृतं राज्यं विदर्भस्तत्सुतोऽभवत्
He ruled the kingdom as his father had; then Vidarbha, his son, was born.
पितुस्तुल्यं कृतं राज्यं कुन्तिभोजस्तु तत्सुतः
He ruled the kingdom as his father had; then Kuntibhoja was his son.
उषित्वा नगरे तस्मिन्मायाविद्यस्ततोऽभवत्
Having dwelled in that city, Māyāvidya was then born from him.
दशवर्षसहस्राणि राज्यं कृत्वा दिवं गतः 3.1.2.
Having ruled for ten thousand years, he ascended to heaven.
पितुस्तुल्यं कृतं राज्यं प्रचिन्वांस्तत्सुतोऽभवत्
He ruled the kingdom as his father had; then Pracinvān was his son.
पितुस्तुल्यं कृतं राज्यं नभस्यस्तनयोऽभवत्
He ruled the kingdom as his father had; then Nabhasya's son was born.
पितुस्तुल्यं कृतं राज्यं सुद्युम्नस्तनयोऽभवत्
He ruled the kingdom as his father had; then Sudyumna's son was born.
पितुस्तुल्यं कृतं राज्यं संयातिस्तनयोऽभवत्
He ruled the kingdom as his father had; then Saṃyāti's son was born.
पितुस्तुल्यं कृतं राज्यमैन्द्राश्वस्तनयोऽभवत्
He ruled the kingdom as his father had; then Aindrāśva's son was born.
पितुस्तुल्यं कृतं राज्यं तत्पुत्रः सुतपाः स्मृतः
He ruled the kingdom as his father had; that son was known as Sutapā.
हिमालयगिरौ प्राप्ते तपः कर्तुं मनो दधत्
When he reached the Himalaya mountain, he set his mind on performing austerities.
संवरणाय ददौ तुष्टो रविलोकं नृपो गतः
Pleased, the king gave the kingdom to Samvarana and departed to behold the Sun.
चत्वारः सागरा वृद्धा भारतं क्षयतां गतम्
The four ancient oceans dried up, and Bharata came to ruin.
महावायुप्रभावेन सागराः शुष्कतां गताः 3.1.2.
By the power of a great wind, the oceans became desiccated.
