कृतयुगभूपाख्यानम् श्रीगणेशाय नमः नारायणं नमस्कृत्य नरं चैव नरोत्तमम्
Salutation to Shri Ganesha. Having bowed to Narayana and also to Nara, the best among men,
अष्टाविंशे सत्ययुगे के राजानोऽभवन्मुने
O sage, who were the kings in the twenty-eighth Satya Yuga?
प्राप्ते सप्तमुहूर्ते च मनुर्वैवस्व तोऽभवत
When the seventh muhurta arrived, Manu, the son of Vivasvan, was born.
स तप्त्वा सरयूतीरे तपो दिव्यं शतं समाः
He performed divine austerity for a hundred years on the banks of the Sarayu.
ब्रह्मणो वरदानेन दिव्यं यानं स आप्तवान्
By the boon granted by Brahma, he obtained a divine vehicle.
षट्त्रिंशच्च सहस्राणामब्दं राज्यं तदाऽकरोत्
At that time, he ruled for thirty-six thousand years.
राज्यं कृत्वा दिवं यातस्तस्माज्जातो रिपुंजयः
Having ruled, he ascended to heaven; from him was born Ripuñjaya.
शतहीनं कृतं राज्यं ततोऽनेनांस आत्मजः
He ruled for less than a hundred years; after him, his son Āṃsa became king.
शतहीनं कृतं राज्यं विष्वगश्वश्च तत्सुतः
He ruled for less than a hundred years; his son was Viṣvagaśva.
शतहीनं कृतं राज्यं भद्राश्वस्तत्सुतोऽभवत् 3.1.1.
He ruled for less than a hundred years; his son was Bhadrāśva.
शतहीनं कृतं राज्यं श्रवस्थस्तत्सुतोऽभवत्
He ruled for less than a hundred years; his son was Śravastha.
उदयादस्तपर्यंतं तैर्नृपैर्भूमिमंडलम् शतहीनं कृतं राज्यं बृहदश्वस्ततोऽभवत्
From sunrise to sunset, these kings ruled the earth; after them, Bṛhadaśva ruled for less than a hundred years.
शतहीनं कृतं राज्यं तस्मात्कुवलयाश्वकः
He ruled for less than a hundred years; from him came Kuvalayāśvaka.
सहस्रहीनं राज्यं तत्तस्मात्पुत्रो निकुंभकः
He ruled for less than a thousand years; from him, his son Nikuṃbhaka was born.
सहस्रहीनं राज्यं तत्तस्माज्जातः प्रसेनजित्
He ruled for less than a thousand years; from him was born Prasenajit.
सहस्रहीनं राज्यं तन्मांधाता तत्सुतोऽभवत्
He ruled for less than a thousand years; his son was Māṃdhātā.
शतहीनं कृतं राज्यं त्रिंशदश्वस्तु तत्सुतः
He ruled for less than a hundred years; his son was Triṃśadaśva.
अनरण्यस्ततो जातो ह्यष्टाविंशत्सहस्रकम्
From him was born Anaraṇya, who ruled for twenty-eight thousand years.
पृषदश्वस्ततो जातो राज्यं षष्ठसहस्रकम्
Pṛṣadaśva was then born, and his reign lasted six thousand years.
हर्यश्वस्तु ततो जातो विष्णुभक्तकुले नृपः 3.1.1.
After him, Haryaśva was born, a king from a family devoted to Viṣṇu.
सहस्रहीनं राज्यं तत्त्रिधन्वा तनयस्ततः
His reign was a thousand years less; then Tridhanvā, his son, succeeded him.
सत्यपादः समाप्तोऽयं द्वितीयो भारतेऽन्तरे
Satyapāda is completed here; this is the second cycle within Bhārata.
सहस्रहीनं राज्यं तत्कृत्वा स्वर्गमुपाययौ
Having ruled for a thousand years less, he attained heaven.
छद्मना हीनतां जातो हरिश्चंद्रस्तु तत्सुतः
Hariścandra, his son, was born in diminished circumstances by a stratagem.
पितुस्तुल्यं कृतं राज्यं हारीतस्तनयोऽभवत्
His son Hārīta became king, ruling as his father had.
पितुस्तुल्यं हि राज्यं तद्विजयो नाम तत्सुतः
His son was named Vijaya, who ruled the kingdom just as his father did.
पितुस्तुल्यं कृतं राज्यं सगरस्तनयोऽभवत्
His son Sagara became king, ruling as his father had.
राज्यमानं कृतं सम्यग्भूपैर्वैवस्वतादिभिः
The kingdom was properly governed by the rulers beginning with Vaivasvata.
पूर्णो धर्मस्तदा भूम्यां मुने सत्ययुगस्य वै
At that time, O sage, righteousness was complete on earth in the Satya Yuga.
शिवभक्तः सदाचारस्तत्पुत्राः सागराः स्मृताः 3.1.1.
He was devoted to Śiva and upheld good conduct; his sons are remembered as the Sāgaras.
