जुष्टं स्वलङ्कृतैः पुम्भिः स्त्रीभिश्च हरिणाक्षिभिः । किमिदं कस्य वा स्थानं कथं तदिदमित्यभूत्
It was graced by men and women, beautifully adorned, with doe-like eyes; he wondered, 'What is this? Whose place is this? How has this come to be?'
एवं मीमांसमानं तं नरा नार्योऽमरप्रभाः । प्रत्यगृह्णन् महाभागं गीतवाद्येन भूयसा
As he was thus pondering, men and women, radiant as immortals, welcomed the blessed one with abundant singing and instrumental music.
पतिमागतमाकर्ण्य पत्न्युद्धर्षातिसम्भ्रमा । निश्चक्राम गृहात्तूर्णं रूपिणी श्रीरिवालयात्
Hearing that her husband had arrived, his wife, overwhelmed with joy and excitement, quickly came out of the house, like Lakshmi herself from her abode.
पतिव्रता पतिं दृष्ट्वा प्रेमोत्कण्ठाश्रुलोचना । मीलिताक्ष्यनमद् बुद्ध्या मनसा परिषस्वजे
The devoted wife, seeing her husband, with eyes brimming with love and longing, closed her eyes and embraced him with reverent mind and heart.
पत्नीं वीक्ष्य विस्फुरन्तीं देवीं वैमानिकीमिव । दासीनां निष्ककण्ठीनां मध्ये भान्तीं स विस्मितः
He, astonished, beheld his wife shining among the maidservants, radiant like a celestial goddess, standing out in the midst of those without necklaces.
प्रीतः स्वयं तया युक्तः प्रविष्टो निजमन्दिरम् । मणिस्तम्भशतोपेतं महेन्द्रभवनं यथा
Pleased and united with her, he entered his own palace, adorned with hundreds of jeweled pillars, resembling the mansion of Indra.
पयःफेननिभाः शय्या दान्ता रुक्मपरिच्छदाः । पर्यङ्का हेमदण्डानि चामरव्यजनानि च
Beds resembling milk foam, gentle and decorated with gold, couches with golden rails, and yak-tail fans were present.
आसनानि च हैमानि मृदूपस्तरणानि च । मुक्तादामविलम्बीनि वितानानि द्युमन्ति च
There were golden seats with soft cushions, canopies hung with pearl garlands, and shining coverings.
स्वच्छस्फटिककुड्येषु महामारकतेषु च । रत्नदीपा भ्राजमानान् ललना रत्नसंयुताः
On clear crystal walls and great emerald surfaces, jeweled lamps shone, and women adorned with gems were present.
विलोक्य ब्राह्मणस्तत्र समृद्धीः सर्वसम्पदाम् । तर्कयामास निर्व्यग्रः स्वसमृद्धिमहैतुकीम्
The Brahmin, seeing there the abundance of all riches, calmly reflected on his own prosperity, which had come without cause.
( मिश्र ) नूनं बतैतन्मम दुर्भगस्य शश्वद् दरिद्रस्य समृद्धिहेतुः । महाविभूतेरवलोकतोऽन्यो नैवोपपद्येत यदूत्तमस्य
Surely, this is the cause of prosperity for me, so unfortunate and always poor; nothing else could explain the wealth of the foremost Yadu.
नन्वब्रुवाणो दिशते समक्षं याचिष्णवे भूर्यपि भूरिभोजः । पर्जन्यवत्तत् स्वयमीक्षमाणो दाशार्हकाणामृषभः सखा मे
Indeed, even without asking, the generous king gives abundantly to those who request; like a cloud, he observes and provides, my friend, the chief of the Dasharhas.
किञ्चित्करोत्युर्वपि यत् स्वदत्तं सुहृत्कृतं फल्ग्वपि भूरिकारी । मयोपणीतं पृथुकैकमुष्टिं प्रत्यग्रहीत् प्रीतियुतो महात्मा
Whatever little he gives, even if small, is done as a friend; though he is a great giver, he accepted from me a handful of parched grain, offered with affection.
तस्यैव मे सौहृदसख्यमैत्री दास्यं पुनर्जन्मनि जन्मनि स्यात् । महानुभावेन गुणालयेन विषज्जतः तत्पुरुषप्रसङ्गः
May I have friendship, companionship, and service to him, birth after birth; through association with that great soul, the abode of virtues, my attachment is fixed.
( इंद्रवंशा ) भक्ताय चित्रा भगवान् हि सम्पदो राज्यं विभूतीर्न समर्थयत्यजः । अदीर्घबोधाय विचक्षणः स्वयं पश्यन् निपातं धनिनां मदोद्भवम्
For the devoted, the Lord indeed grants wondrous prosperity and kingdoms; but the unborn one does not bestow them on those lacking discernment, seeing himself the downfall and pride of the wealthy.
( अनुष्टुप् ) इत्थं व्यवसितो बुद्ध्या भक्तोऽतीव जनार्दने । विषयान्जायया त्यक्ष्यन् बुभुजे नातिलम्पटः
Thus resolved in mind, the devotee of Janardana, though surrounded by pleasures, enjoyed them without excessive attachment.
तस्य वै देवदेवस्य हरेर्यज्ञपतेः प्रभोः । ब्राह्मणाः प्रभवो दैवं न तेभ्यो विद्यते परम्
For that Lord of sacrifice, Hari, the god of gods, the Brahmins are his origin; nothing is higher than them.
एवं स विप्रो भगवत्सुहृत्तदा दृष्ट्वा स्वभृत्यैरजितं पराजितम् । तद्ध्यानवेगोद्ग्रथितात्मबन्धनः तद्धाम लेभेऽचिरतः सतां गतिम्
Thus, the Brahmin, friend of the Lord, seeing the unconquered one defeated by his own servants, with mind bound by meditation on him, soon attained his abode, the path of the virtuous.
एतद् ब्रह्मण्यदेवस्य श्रुत्वा ब्रह्मण्यतां नरः । लब्धभावो भगवति कर्मबन्धाद् विमुच्यते
Hearing this about the god devoted to Brahmins, a man who gains devotion to the Lord is freed from the bondage of karma.
इति श्रीमद्भागवते महापुराणे पारमहंस्यां संहितायां दशमस्कन्धे उत्तरार्धे पृथुकोपाख्यानं नाम एकशीतितमोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the eighty-first chapter, named 'The Story of Prithu’s Anger,' in the tenth book, second half, of the great Purana, Srimad Bhagavata, the scripture of the supreme paramahamsas.
कुरुक्षेत्रे सूर्योपरागपर्वणि यदुभिः सह कुरूणां नन्दादिगोपानां च समागमः - श्रीशुक उवाच - ( अनुष्टुप् ) अथैकदा द्वारवत्यां वसतो रामकृष्णयोः । सूर्योपरागः सुमहानासीत्कल्पक्षये यथा
Shri Shuka said: Once, while Rama and Krishna were residing in Dvaraka, a great solar eclipse occurred, as happens at the end of a kalpa.
तं ज्ञात्वा मनुजा राजन्पुरस्तादेव सर्वतः । समन्तपञ्चकं क्षेत्रं ययुः श्रेयोविधित्सया
O King, knowing him, the people went from all sides to the field of Samantapañcaka, desiring to attain auspiciousness.
निःक्षत्रियां महीं कुर्वन्रामः शस्त्रभृतां वरः । नृपाणां रुधिरौघेण यत्र चक्रे महाह्रदान्
Rāma, the foremost among wielders of weapons, made the earth devoid of kṣatriyas, where, by the flood of kings’ blood, he created great lakes.
ईजे च भगवान्रामो यत्रास्पृष्टोऽपि कर्मणा । लोकं सङ्ग्राहयन्नीशो यथान्योऽघापनुत्तये
There, Bhagavān Rāma performed sacrifice, though untouched by karma, gathering the people as the Lord, just as others do to remove sin.
महत्यां तीर्थयात्रायां तत्रागन्भारतीः प्रजाः । वृष्णयश्च तथाक्रूर वसुदेवाहुकादयः
During that great pilgrimage, the people of Bhārata, the Vṛṣṇis, as well as Akrūra, Vasudeva, Ahuka, and others, arrived there.
ययुर्भारत तत्क्षेत्रं स्वमघं क्षपयिष्णवः । गदप्रद्युम्नसाम्बाद्याः सुचन्द्रशुकसारणैः
Those descendants of Bhārata went to that field, wishing to expiate their own sins—Gada, Pradyumna, Sāmba, and others, along with Sucandra, Śuka, and Sāraṇa.
आस्तेऽनिरुद्धो रक्षायां कृतवर्मा च यूथपः । ते रथैर्देवधिष्ण्याभैः हयैश्च तरलप्लवैः
Aniruddha remained for protection, and Kṛtavarmā, the leader, too; they shone, riding chariots adorned with divine emblems and swift horses.
गजैर्नदद्भिरभ्राभैः नृभिर्विद्याधरद्युभिः । व्यरोचन्त महातेजाः पथि काञ्चनमालिनः
With elephants roaring like clouds, men accompanied by Vidyādharas and celestial beings, those of great brilliance, adorned with golden garlands, shone on the road.
दिव्यस्रग्वस्त्रसन्नाहाः कलत्रैः खेचरा इव । तत्र स्नात्वा महाभागा उपोष्य सुसमाहिताः
Wearing divine garlands, garments, and armor, with their wives, they appeared like those who move in the sky; there, after bathing, the highly fortunate ones fasted, fully composed.
ब्राह्मणेभ्यो ददुर्धेनूः वासःस्रग्रुक्ममालिनीः । रामह्रदेषु विधिवत् पुनराप्लुत्य वृष्णयः
They gave cows, garments, garlands, and gold ornaments to the brāhmaṇas; then, in the lakes of Rāma, the Vṛṣṇis bathed again according to the prescribed rites.
