कृष्णमुष्टिविनिष्पात निष्पिष्टाङ्गोरु बन्धनः। क्षीणसत्त्वः स्विन्नगात्रस्तमाहातीव विस्मितः
Crushed by Krishna's blows, his limbs bound and his strength spent, his body drenched in sweat, Jāmbavān, greatly astonished, spoke to him.
जाने त्वां सर्वभूतानां प्राण ओजः सहो बलम्। विष्णुं पुराणपुरुषं प्रभविष्णुमधीश्वरम्
I know you are the life, vigor, strength, and power of all beings—Viṣṇu, the ancient person, the supreme lord and master.
त्वं हि विश्वसृजां स्रष्टा सृष्टानामपि यच्च सत्। कालः कलयतामीशः पर आत्मा तथात्मनाम्
You are indeed the creator of the creators, and that which exists among the created; you are Time, the lord of those who measure, the supreme Self, and the self of all selves.
यस्येषदुत्कलितरोषकटाक्षमोक्षैर्। वर्त्मादिशत्क्षुभितनक्रतिमिङ्गलोऽब्धिः । सेतुः कृतः स्वयश उज्ज्वलिता च लङ्का। रक्षःशिरांसि भुवि पेतुरिषुक्षतानि
By whose mere sidelong glance, slightly raised in anger, the ocean was stirred, showing the path, and a bridge was built, Lanka's fame was made to shine, and the heads of the demons fell to the earth, shattered by arrows.
इति विज्ञातविज्ञानमृक्षराजानमच्युतः। व्याजहार महाराज भगवान्देवकीसुतः
Thus recognizing the Lord, the king of bears, Achyuta, the son of Devakī, spoke to him, O King.
अभिमृश्यारविन्दाक्षः पाणिना शंकरेण तम्। कृपया परया भक्तं मेघगम्भीरया गिरा
Lotus-eyed Krishna, touching him with his hand, deep as a cloud in voice, spoke to his devotee with utmost compassion.
मणिहेतोरिह प्राप्ता वयमृक्षपते बिलम्। मिथ्याभिशापं प्रमृजन्नात्मनो मणिनामुना
For the sake of the jewel, O king of bears, I have come to your cave, to clear myself of the false accusation, with this very jewel.
इत्युक्तः स्वां दुहितरं कन्यां जाम्बवतीं मुदा। अर्हणार्थं स मणिना कृष्णायोपजहार ह
Thus addressed, with joy, he gave his own daughter Jāmbavatī and the jewel to Krishna, for honoring him.
अदृष्ट्वा निर्गमं शौरेः प्रविष्टस्य बिलं जनाः। प्रतीक्ष्य द्वादशाहानि दुःखिताः स्वपुरं ययुः
When the people did not see Śauri emerge, having entered the cave, they waited twelve days in sorrow and then returned to their city.
निशम्य देवकी देवी रुक्मिण्यानकदुन्दुभिः। सुहृदो ज्ञातयोऽशोचन्बिलात्कृष्णमनिर्गतम्
Hearing that Kṛṣṇa had not come out of the cave, Devakī, the queen, along with Rukmiṇī, Vasudeva, friends, and relatives, all grieved.
सत्राजितं शपन्तस्ते दुःखिता द्वारकौकसः। उपतस्थुश्चन्द्र भागां दुर्गां कृष्णोपलब्धये
The sorrowful citizens of Dvārakā cursed Satrājit, and to obtain news of Kṛṣṇa, they approached the goddess Candra-bhāgā, Durgā.
तेषां तु देव्युपस्थानात्प्रत्यादिष्टाशिषा स च। प्रादुर्बभूव सिद्धार्थः सदारो हर्षयन्हरिः
Because of their worship of the goddess, she instructed them with a blessing, and then Hari, accomplished in his purpose and with his wife, appeared, bringing joy.
उपलभ्य हृषीकेशं मृतं पुनरिवागतम्। सह पत्न्या मणिग्रीवं सर्वे जातमहोत्सवाः
Seeing Hṛṣīkeśa, adorned with the jewel and accompanied by his wife, return as if from death, all became filled with great festivity.
सत्राजितं समाहूय सभायां राजसन्निधौ। प्राप्तिं चाख्याय भगवान्मणिं तस्मै न्यवेदयत्
Summoning Satrājit into the assembly in the presence of the king, the Lord recounted the recovery and presented the jewel to him.
स चातिव्रीडितो रत्नं गृहीत्वावाङ्मुखस्ततः। अनुतप्यमानो भवनमगमत्स्वेन पाप्मना
Greatly ashamed, Satrājit took the gem and, his face cast down, returned to his house, tormented by his own wrongdoing.
सोऽनुध्यायंस्तदेवाघं बलवद्विग्रहाकुलः। कथं मृजाम्यात्मरजः प्रसीदेद्वाच्युतः कथम्
Disturbed by intense remorse and conflict, he pondered, 'How can I cleanse myself of this sin? How might Acyuta be pleased with me?'
किं कृत्वा साधु मह्यं स्यान्न शपेद्वा जनो यथा। अदीर्घदर्शनं क्षुद्रं मूढं द्रविणलोलुपम्
'What should I do so that people consider me virtuous and do not curse me as short-sighted, petty, foolish, and greedy for wealth?'
दास्ये दुहितरं तस्मै स्त्रीरत्नं रत्नमेव च। उपायोऽयं समीचीनस्तस्य शान्तिर्न चान्यथा
'I will give him my daughter, a jewel among women, along with the gem itself. This is the proper way for his appeasement; there is no other.'
एवं व्यवसितो बुद्ध्या सत्राजित्स्वसुतां शुभाम्। मणिं च स्वयमुद्यम्य कृष्णायोपजहार ह
Thus resolved in mind, Satrājit personally brought his virtuous daughter and the jewel, and offered them to Kṛṣṇa.
तां सत्यभामां भगवानुपयेमे यथाविधि। बहुभिर्याचितां शील रूपौदार्यगुणान्विताम्
The Lord duly married Satyabhāmā, who was sought by many for her character, beauty, and noble qualities.
भगवानाह न मणिं प्रतीच्छामो वयं नृप। तवास्तां देवभक्तस्य वयं च फलभागिनः
The Lord said, 'We do not accept the jewel, O King. Let it remain with you, a devotee of the gods, while we partake of its benefit.'
कालिन्दीमित्रविन्दासत्याभद्रालक्ष्मणादीनां पाणिग्रहणम्। अथाष्टपञ्चाशत्तमोऽध्यायः 10.58 श्रीशुक उवाच। एकदा पाण्डवान्द्रष्टुं प्रतीतान्पुरुषोत्तमः। इन्द्रप्रस्थं गतः श्रीमान्युयुधानादिभिर्वृतः
Śuka said: Once, the Supreme Person, adorned with attendants like Yuyudhāna, went to Indraprastha to see the Pāṇḍavas.
दृष्ट्वा तमागतं पार्था मुकुन्दमखिलेश्वरम्। उत्तस्थुर्युगपद्वीराः प्राणा मुख्यमिवागतम्
Seeing Mukunda, the Lord of all, arrive, the heroic sons of Pāṇḍu rose together, as if life itself had returned.
परिष्वज्याच्युतं वीरा अङ्गसङ्गहतैनसः। सानुरागस्मितं वक्त्रं वीक्ष्य तस्य मुदं ययुः
Embracing Acyuta, the heroes, freed from all distress by the touch of his limbs, beheld his affectionate, smiling face and rejoiced.
युधिष्ठिरस्य भीमस्य कृत्वा पादाभिवन्दनम्। फाल्गुनं परिरभ्याथ यमाभ्यां चाभिवन्दितः
After offering obeisance at the feet of Yudhiṣṭhira and Bhīma, he embraced Arjuna and was honored by the twins.
परमासन आसीनं कृष्णा कृष्णमनिन्दिता। नवोढा व्रीडिता किञ्चिच्छनैरेत्याभ्यवन्दत
Kṛṣṇā, recently married and somewhat bashful, approached and respectfully greeted Kṛṣṇa, who was seated on the chief seat.
तथैव सात्यकिः पार्थैः पूजितश्चाभिवन्दितः। निषसादासनेऽन्ये च पूजिताः पर्युपासत
In the same way, Satyaki, honored and respectfully greeted by the Pāṇḍavas, took his seat, and others who were also honored sat nearby.
पृथाम्समागत्य कृताभिवादनस्तयातिहार्दार्द्र दृशाभिरम्भितः। आपृष्टवांस्तां कुशलं सहस्नुषां पितृष्वसारम्परिपृष्टबान्धवः
He approached Kuntī, offered his salutations, and was embraced by her with eyes moist from deep affection; he inquired about her welfare, that of her daughters-in-law, her sister, and all her relatives.
तमाह प्रेमवैक्लव्य रुद्धकण्ठाश्रुलोचना। स्मरन्ती तान्बहून्क्लेशान्क्लेशापायात्मदर्शनम्
She, recalling many hardships and the vision of the Self that comes after suffering, spoke to him with a voice choked by love and eyes filled with tears.
तदैव कुशलं नोऽभूत्सनाथास्ते कृता वयम्। ज्ञातीन्नः स्मरता कृष्ण भ्राता मे प्रेषितस्त्वया
Only then did our well-being arise, when we gained a protector; remembering our kin, O Kṛṣṇa, my brother was sent to you.
