शरदुदाशये साधुजातसत् सरसिजोदरश्रीमुषा दृशा । सुरतनाथ तेऽशुल्कदासिका वरद निघ्नतो नेह किं वधः
O noble one, in the autumn night, your gaze steals the beauty of the lotus's heart. Lord of love, we are your unpaid servants; O giver of boons, is it right for you to kill us here?
विषजलाप्ययाद् व्यालराक्षसाद् वर्षमारुताद् वैद्युतानलात् । वृषमयात्मजाद् विश्वतो भयाद् ऋषभ ते वयं रक्षिता मुहुः
From the poison of water, from the demon in serpent form, from storms, lightning, fire, from the son of the rain-god, and from dangers everywhere, O supreme one, you have repeatedly protected us.
न खलु गोपीकानन्दनो भवान् अखिलदेहिनां अन्तरात्मदृक् । विखनसार्थितो विश्वगुप्तये सख उदेयिवान् सात्वतां कुले
You are not merely the delight of the gopīs; you are the inner witness of all embodied beings. Requested by Brahma for the protection of the world, friend, you appeared in the clan of the Sātvatas.
विरचिताभयं वृष्णिधूर्य ते चरणमीयुषां संसृतेर्भयात् । करसरोरुहं कान्त कामदं शिरसि धेहि नः श्रीकरग्रहम्
O foremost of the Vṛṣṇis, you have made your feet a shelter for those who approach, freeing them from the fear of worldly existence. Beloved, whose lotus hands grant desires, place your auspicious grasp upon our heads.
व्रजजनार्तिहन् वीर योषितां निजजनस्मयध्वंसनस्मित । भज सखे भवत् किङ्करीः स्म नो जलरुहाननं चारु दर्शय
O hero, remover of Vraja's suffering, whose smile destroys the pride of your own people, friend, accept us as your servants; show us your beautiful lotus-like face.
प्रणतदेहिनां पापकर्षणं तृणचरानुगं श्रीनिकेतनम् । फणिफणार्पितं ते पदाम्बुजं कृणु कुचेषु नः कृन्धि हृच्छयम्
Destroyer of sin for those who bow, follower of those who graze grass, abode of fortune, your lotus feet were offered by the serpent's hoods; place them on our breasts and relieve the pain in our hearts.
मधुरया गिरा वल्गुवाक्यया बुधमनोज्ञया पुष्करेक्षण । विधिकरीरिमा वीर मुह्यती रधरसीधुनाप्याययस्व नः
With sweet speech, charming words, and wisdom pleasing to the mind, O lotus-eyed one, you bewilder us; O hero, nourish us with the nectar of your lips.
तव कथामृतं तप्तजीवनं कविभिरीडितं कल्मषापहम् । श्रवणमङ्गलं श्रीमदाततं भुवि गृणन्ति ये भूरिदा जनाः
The nectar of your stories is the life for the suffering; praised by poets, it removes sin. Hearing them brings auspiciousness and wealth; those who spread them on earth are truly generous.
प्रहसितं प्रिय प्रेमवीक्षणं विहरणं च ते ध्यानमङ्गलम् । रहसि संविदो या हृदि स्पृशः कुहक नो मनः क्षोभयन्ति हि
Your laughter, beloved, your loving glances, your play, and your meditation are auspicious. The secret conversations that touch the heart, O enchanter, disturb our minds.
चलसि यद् व्रजाच्चारयन् पशून् नलिनसुन्दरं नाथ ते पदम् । शिलतृणाङ्कुरैः सीदतीति नः कलिलतां मनः कान्त गच्छति
When you wander from Vraja, herding the cows, O lord, your lotus-like feet tread on stones, grass, and sprouts; our minds, afflicted by longing, follow you, beloved.
दिनपरिक्षये नीलकुन्तलैः वनरुहाननं बिभ्रदावृतम् । घनरजस्वलं दर्शयन् मुहु र्मनसि नः स्मरं वीर यच्छसि
At the end of the day, with blue hair, you appear, bearing a forest-flower face, covered in dust from the clouds, repeatedly showing yourself; O hero, you stir love in our hearts.
प्रणतकामदं पद्मजार्चितं धरणिमण्डनं ध्येयमापदि । चरणपङ्कजं शन्तमं च ते रमण नः स्तनेष्वर्पयाधिहन्
Your lotus feet, which grant desires to those who bow, are worshipped by Lakshmi, ornament of the earth, worthy of meditation in adversity, and bring peace; beloved, place them upon our breasts and relieve our pain.
सुरतवर्धनं शोकनाशनं स्वरितवेणुना सुष्ठु चुम्बितम् । इतररागविस्मारणं नृणां वितर वीर नस्तेऽधरामृतम्
Your lips, kissed by the melodious flute, increase love and destroy sorrow, making people forget all other passions; O hero, grant us the nectar of your lips.
अटति यद् भवानह्नि काननं त्रुटिर्युगायते त्वामपश्यताम् । कुटिलकुन्तलं श्रीमुखं च ते जड उदीक्षतां पक्ष्मकृद् दृशाम्
When you wander the forest by day, for those who do not see you, a moment becomes an age; your curly hair and beautiful face, for those who gaze with dull eyes, are hidden by their own eyelids.
पतिसुतान्वयभ्रातृबान्धवान् अतिविलङ्घ्य तेऽन्त्यच्युतागताः । गतिविदस्तवोद्गीतमोहिताः कितव योषितः कस्त्यजेन्निशि
Having abandoned husbands, sons, family, brothers, and relatives, we, the last ones, have come to you, O infallible one. Knowing your path, enchanted by your song, which woman would return home at night?
रहसि संविदं हृच्छयोदयं प्रहसिताननं प्रेमवीक्षणम् । बृहदुरः श्रियो वीक्ष्य धाम ते मुहुरतिस्पृहा मुह्यते मनः
The secret conversations, the rising of love in the heart, your smiling face, loving glances, and the splendor of your broad chest, O abode of fortune, repeatedly cause our minds to long and become bewildered.
व्रजवनौकसां व्यक्तिरङ्ग ते वृजिनहन्त्र्यलं विश्वमङ्गलम् । त्यज मनाक् च नस्त्वत्स्पृहात्मनां स्वजनहृद्रुजां यन्निषूदनम्
O embodiment of auspiciousness for the dwellers of Vraja, your presence alone destroys all suffering and brings universal blessing. Please, withdraw even slightly from those whose hearts are afflicted by longing for you, for your absence is the cure for the pain of separation among your own people.
( वसंततिलका ) यत्ते सुजातचरणाम्बुरुहं स्तनेषु भीताः शनैः प्रिय दधीमहि कर्कशेषु । तेनाटवीमटसि तद् व्यथते न किं स्वित् कूर्पादिभिर्भ्रमति धीर्भवदायुषां नः
O beloved, we gently place your beautiful lotus feet upon our breasts, though we are fearful of their hardness. Is it for this reason you wander the forest, and do your feet not feel pain from walking on sharp stones? Our minds, sustained by your life, do not stray from you.
इति श्रीमद्भागवते महापुराणे पारमहंस्यां संहितायां दशमस्कन्धे पूर्वार्धे रासक्रीडायां गोपीगीतं नामैकत्रिंशोऽध्यायः
Thus ends Chapter Thirty-One, named 'The Song of the Gopīs,' in the first half of the Tenth Book of the Śrīmad Bhāgavatam, the great Purāṇa, the scripture of the supreme renunciates.
रामपत्न्यश्च तद्देहं उपगुह्याग्निमाविशन् । वसुदेवपत्न्यस्तद्गात्रं प्रद्युम्नादीन् हरेः स्नुषाः । कृष्णपत्न्योऽविशन्नग्निं रुक्मिण्याद्याः तदात्मिकाः
The wives of Rāma embraced his body and entered the fire; the wives of Vasudeva, as well as the daughters-in-law of Hari, including those of Pradyumna, did likewise; and the wives of Kṛṣṇa, led by Rukmiṇī, entered the fire, united in spirit with him.
अर्जुनः प्रेयसः सख्युः कृष्णस्य विरहातुरः । आत्मानं सांत्वयामास कृष्णगीतैः सदुक्तिभिः
Arjuna, overwhelmed by separation from his dear friend Kṛṣṇa, consoled himself with songs and wise sayings about Kṛṣṇa.
बंधूनां नष्टगोत्राणां अर्जुनः सांपरायिकम् । हतानां कारयामास यथावद् अनुपूर्वशः
Arjuna performed the proper funeral rites for his relatives whose lineage had been lost, arranging them in due order for those who had been slain.
द्वारकां हरिणा त्यक्तां समुद्रोऽप्लावयत् क्षणात् । वर्जयित्वा महाराज श्रीमद् भगवदालयम्
The ocean flooded Dvārakā, which had been abandoned by Hari, in a moment, O King, except for the splendid abode of the Lord.
नित्यं सन्निहितस्तत्र भगवान् मधुसूदनः । स्मृत्याशेषाशुभहरं सर्वमङ्गलमङ्गलम्
There, the Lord Madhusūdana is eternally present, removing all evil by remembrance, the most auspicious among all auspicious things.
स्त्रीबालवृद्धानादाय हतशेषान् धनञ्जयः । इंद्रप्रस्थं समावेश्य वज्रं तत्राभ्यषेचयत्
Taking the surviving women, children, and elders, Dhanañjaya brought them to Indraprastha and installed Vajra there as king.
श्रुत्वा सुहृद् वधं राजन् अर्जुनात्ते पितामहाः । त्वां तु वंशधरं कृत्वा जग्मुः सर्वे महापथम्
Hearing of the death of their friends, O King, Arjuna's grandfathers made you the bearer of the lineage and all departed on the great path.
य एतद् देवदेवस्य विष्णोः कर्माणि जन्म च । कीर्तयेत् श्रद्धया मर्त्यः सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते
Whoever, with faith, recounts the deeds and birth of Viṣṇu, Lord of the gods, is freed from all sins.
( वसंततिलका ) इत्थं हरेर्भगवतो रुचिरावतार वीर्याणि बालचरितानि च शंतमानि । अन्यत्र चेह च श्रुतानि गृणन् मनुष्यो भक्तिं परां परमहंसगतौ लभेत
In this way, hearing and reciting the charming descents, heroic deeds, and childhood exploits of Hari, the Lord, whether here or elsewhere, a person attains supreme devotion on the path of the highest renunciates.
सह देहेन मानेन वर्धमानेन मन्युना । करोति विग्रहं कामी कामिष्वन्ताय चात्मनः
With the body, pride, increasing anger, and desire, a passionate person engages in conflict with others who are also desirous, bringing ruin upon himself.
भूतैः पञ्चभिरारब्धे देहे देह्यबुधोऽसकृत् । अहं ममेत्यसद्ग्राहः करोति कुमतिर्मतिम्
In the body, composed of the five elements, the ignorant soul repeatedly clings to the false notions of 'I' and 'mine,' and this misguided thinking produces a faulty intellect.
