असुरं सुरया द्विष्ठं पदे शेषं घृताम्भसा। यवैः पापं पदार्द्धस्थं रोगमध्ये च मण्डकैः
To the Asura, in the second square, with surā liquor; to Śeṣa, at the square, with ghee and water; to Pāpa, at the half-square, with barley; to Disease, in the middle, with cakes.
नागपुष्पैः पदे नागं मुख्यं भक्ष्यैर्हि संस्थितम्। मुद्गोदनेन भल्लाटं पदे सोमं पदे तथा
To Nāga, at the square, with nāga flowers; to Bhakṣya, the chief, with food; to Bhallāṭa, with mung-bean rice; to Soma, at the square, likewise.
मधुना पायसेनाथ शालूकेन ऋषिं द्वये। पदे दितिं लोपिकाभिरर्द्धे दितिमथापरम्
To the Sage, with honey, milk-rice, and lotus-stalk, in two squares; to Diti, with sesame cakes at one half, and to Diti again at the other half.
पूरिकाभिस्ततञ्चापमीशाधः पयसा पदे। ततोधश्चापवत्सन्तु दध्ना चैकपदे स्थितम्
To Āpa, with fried cakes, below Īśa, with milk at the square; and below that, to Āpa again, with curd in a single square.
लड्ङुकैश्च मरीचिन्तु पूर्वकोष्ठचतष्टये । सवित्रे रक्तपुष्पाणि ब्रह्माधः कोणकोष्ठके
To Marīci, with fried cakes, in the four eastern compartments; to Savitṛ, with red flowers; below Brahmā, in the corner compartment.
तदधः कोष्ठके दद्यात् सावित्र्यै च कुशोदकम्। विवस्वतेऽरुणं दद्याच्चन्दनञ्चतुरङ्घ्निषु
Below that, in the compartment, one should offer water with kuśa grass to Sāvitrī; to Vivasvat, Aruṇa, with sandalwood at the four-footed squares.
रक्षोधः कोणकोष्ठे तु इन्द्रायान्नं निशान्वितम्। इन्द्रजयाय तस्याधो घृतान्नं कोणकोष्ठके
Below the Rakṣas, in the corner compartment, one should offer cooked food to Indra at night; below that, to Indrajaya, in the corner compartment, with rice cooked in ghee.
चतुष्पदेषु दातव्यमिन्द्राय गुडपायसम्। वाय्वधः कोणदेशे तु रुद्राय पक्कमांसकम्
In the four-footed squares, one should give sweet rice to Indra; below Vāyu, in the corner, to Rudra, cooked meat.
तदधः कोणकोष्ठे तु यक्षायार्द्धं फलन्तथा। महीधराय मांसान्नं माषञ्च चतुरङ्घ्रिषु
Below that, in the corner compartment, to Yakṣa, half a fruit likewise; to Mahīdhara, meat and black gram at the four-footed squares.
मध्ये चतुष्पदे स्थाप्या ब्रह्मणे तिलतण्डुलाः। चरकीं माषसर्प्पिर्भ्यां स्कन्दं कृशरयासृजा
In the middle of the four-footed squares, sesame and rice for Brahmā; to Skanda, in the same place, with black gram, clarified butter, and thin rice gruel.
रक्तपत्रैर्विदारीञ्च कन्दर्पञ्च पलोदनैः। पूतन ांपलपित्ताभ्यां मांसासृग्भ्याञ्च जम्भकम्
With red leaves, vidari, kandarpa, and palodana, Putana is to be offered with ampala bile, flesh, and blood to Jambhaka.
पित्तासृगस्थिभिः पापं पिलिपिञ्चं स्रजासृजा। ईशाद्यान् रक्तमांसेन अभावादक्षतैर्यजेत्
With bile, blood, and bones, the sinful pilipincha is to be offered with garlands and blood; to Ishadi and others, with blood and flesh, or, if unavailable, with unbroken offerings.
रक्षोमातृगणेभ्यश्च पिशाचादिभ्य एव च। पितृभ्यः क्षेत्रपालेभ्यो बलीन् दद्यात् प्रकामतः
To the groups of Rakshasa mothers, and likewise to Pisachas and others, to the ancestors and the guardians of the field, one should give offerings as desired.
अहुत्वैतानसन्तप्य प्रासादादीन्न कारयेत्। ब्रह्मस्थाने हरिं लक्ष्मीं गणं पश्चात् समर्च्चयेत्
Without offering these, and without heating, one should not construct palaces and the like; in the place of Brahma, one should worship Hari, Lakshmi, and the Gana afterwards.
महीश्वरं वास्तुमयं वर्द्धन्या सहितं घटम्। ब्रह्माणं मध्यतः कुम्भे ब्रह्मादींस्छ दिगीश्वरान्
One should worship Maheshvara as the lord of the site, together with Varddhani, the pot; Brahma in the middle of the pot, and Brahma and the lords of the directions.
दद्यात् पूर्णाहुति पश्चात् स्वस्ति वाच्य प्रणम्य च। प्रगृह्य कर्करीं सम्यक् मण्डलन्तु प्रदक्षिणम्
After giving the full oblation, one should recite auspicious words and bow; then, taking the karkari properly, circumambulate the mandala.
सूत्रमार्गेण हे ब्रह्मांस्तोयधाराञ्च भ्रामयेत्। पूर्व्ववक्तेन मार्गेण सप्त वीजानि वापयेत्
Along the path of the thread, O Brahman, let the streams of water flow; along the previously described path, sow the seven seeds.
प्रारम्भं तेन मार्गेण तस्य खातस्य कारयेत्। ततो गर्त्तं खनेन्मध्ये हस्तमात्रं प्रमाणतः
Begin along that path, and make the excavation; then, dig a pit in the middle, measuring the size of a hand.
चतुरङ्गलकं चाधश्चोपलिप्यार्च्चयेत्ततः। ध्यात्वा चतुर्भुजं विष्णुमर्घ्यं दद्यात्तु कुम्भतः
Below, apply clay to a four-angula space and worship there; meditating on four-armed Vishnu, offer arghya from the pot.
कर्कर्या पूरयेत् श्वभ्रं शुक्लपुष्पाणि च न्यसेत्। दक्षिणावर्त्तकं श्रेष्ठं बीजैर्मृद्भिश्च पूरयेत्
Fill the trench with the karkari and place white flowers; fill the best south-turning one with seeds and earth.
अर्घ्यदानं विनिष्पाद्य गोवस्त्रादीन्ददेद्गुरौ। कालज्ञाय स्थपतये वैष्णवादिभ्य अर्च्चयेत्
Having completed the offering of arghya, give cow-cloth and other items to the teacher; worship the knower of time, the architect, and the Vaishnavas and others.
ततस्तु खानयेद्यत्नाज्जलान्तं यावदेव तु। पुरुषाधः स्थितं शल्यं न गृहे दोषदं भवेत्
Then, carefully dig until reaching water; a buried impurity beneath a person does not cause harm in the house.
अस्थिशल्ये भिद्यते वै भित्तिर्वै गृहिणोऽसुखम्। यन्नामशब्दं श्रृणुयात्तत्र शल्यं तदुद्भवम्
If there is a bone impurity, the wall is broken and the householder suffers; wherever one hears a name sound, there the impurity arises.
भगवानुवाच पादप्रतिष्ठां वक्ष्यामि शिलाविन्यासलक्षणम्। अग्रतो मण्डपः कार्य्यः कुण्डानान्तु चतुष्टयम्
The Blessed Lord said: I will explain the installation of the foot and the characteristics of stone placement; in front, a pavilion should be made, and four fire pits.
कुम्भन्यासेष्टकान्यासौ द्वारस्तम्भोच्छ्रयं शुभम्। पादोनं पूरयेत् खातं तत्र वास्तुं यजेत् समे
In the placement of the pot and bricks, the auspicious erection of the door pillar; fill the pit below the foot, and there perform the vastu sacrifice equally.
इष्टकाश्च सुपक्वाः स्युर्द्वादशाङ्गुलसम्मिताः। सुविस्तारत्रिभागेन वैपुल्येन समन्विताः
The bricks should be well-baked and measure twelve angulas; they should be made with proper breadth in three parts and with suitable width.
करप्रमाणा श्रेष्ठा स्याच्छिलाप्यथ शिलामये । नव कुम्भांस्ताम्रमयान् स्थापयेदिष्टकाघटान्
The best stones should be of hand measure, and likewise for stone structures; place nine copper pots and brick vessels.
अद्भिः पञ्चकषायेण सर्व्वौषधिजलेन च। गन्धतोयेन च तथा कुम्भैस्तोयसुपूरितैः
With water, five decoctions, all medicinal water, and fragrant water, fill the pots well with water.
हिरण्यव्रीहिसंयुक्तैर्गन्धचन्दनचर्च्चितैः। आपो हिष्ठेति तिसृभिः शन्नो देवीति चाप्यथ
With rice of golden hue mixed in, and anointed with fragrant sandalwood, let three mantras be recited: 'āpo hi ṣṭha', 'śaṃ no devī', and then again.
तरत समन्दीरिति च पावमानीभिरेव च। उदुत्तमं वरुणमिति कयानश्च तथैव च
Recite 'tarata samandīḥ' and also the Pavamāni verses; likewise, 'ud uttamaṃ varuṇam' and the Kayānaś hymn as well.
