कलशान्निः सृतं तोयं कूर्चाग्रं संस्पृशेन्नरः। शुद्धोदकेन पाद्यञ्च अर्घ्यमाचमनन्ददेत्
From the pot, pour out the water; touch the tip of the bundle; with pure water, offer foot-washing, the offering, and sipping water.
परिमृज्य पटेनाह्गं सवस्त्रं पण्डलं नयेत्। तत्राभ्यर्च्याचरेद्धोमं कुण्डादौ प्राणसंयमी
After wiping the body with a cloth, dress it with garments and bring it to the altar; having worshipped there, perform the homa at the fire pit, controlling the breath.
प्रक्षाल्य हस्तौ रेखाश्च तिस्त्रः पूर्वाग्रगामिनीः। दक्षिणादुत्तरान्ताश्च तिस्त्रश्चैवोत्तराग्रगाः
Wash the hands and mark three lines moving toward the east; from the south to the north, three lines moving toward the north.
अर्घ्योदकेन सम्प्रोक्ष्य योनिमुद्राम्प्रदर्शयेत्। द्यात्वाग्निरूपञ्चाग्निन्तु योन्यां कुण्डे क्षिपेन्नरः
Sprinkle with offering water and display the yoni mudra; meditate on the form of Agni as five fires, and place them in the altar's yoni.
पात्राण्यासादयेत् पञ्चाद्दर्भस्त्रुक्स्त्रुवकादिभिः। बाहुमात्राः परिधय इध्मव्रश्चनमेव च
Arrange the five vessels with darbha grass, struk, and other implements; the enclosures should be arm-length, as well as the fuel and the firewood.
प्रणीता प्रोक्षणीपात्रमाज्यस्थाली घृतादिकम्। प्रस्थद्व्यं तण्डुलानां युग्मं युग्ममदोमुखम्
The praṇīta, sprinkling vessel, ghee pot, and other items; two prasthas of rice, a pair, and a pair with an open mouth.
प्रणीताप्रोक्षणीपात्रे न्यसेत् प्रागगग्रं कुशम्। अद्भिः पूर्य्यप्रणीतान्तु ध्यात्वा देवं प्रपूज्य च
Place the kusha grass with its tip to the east in the praṇīta and sprinkling vessels; fill the praṇīta with water, meditate on the deity, and worship.
प्रणीतां स्थापयेदग्रे द्रव्याणाञ्चैव मध्यतः । प्रोक्षणीमद्भिः सम्पूर्य्य प्रार्च्य दक्षे तु विन्यसेत्
Place the praṇīta in front and the materials in the center; fill the sprinkling vessel with water, worship, and place it to the right.
चरुञ्च श्रपयेदग्नौ ब्रह्माणं दक्षिणे न्यसेत्। कुशानास्तीर्य्य पूर्वादौ परिधीन् स्थापयेत्ततः
Cook the caru in the fire and place the Brahman to the right; spread kusha grass to the east and then set up the enclosures.
वैष्णवीकरणं कुर्य्याद् गर्भाधानादिना नरः। गर्भाधानं पुंसवनं सीमन्तोन्नयनञ्चनिः
One should perform the Vaiṣṇava rite beginning with conception, including conception, birth-rite, and hair-parting.
नामादिसमावर्त्तनान्तं जुहुयादष्ट चाहुतीः। पूर्णाहुतीः प्रतिकर्म्म स्रुचा स्रुवसुयुक्तया
Offer eight oblations up to the naming and completion rites; full oblations for each rite, using the ladle and the spoon together.
कुण्डमध्ये ऋतुमतीं लक्ष्मीं सञ्चिन्त्य होमयेत्। कुण्डलक्ष्मीः समाख्याता प्रकृतिस्त्रिगुणात्मिका
Meditate on Lakshmi, who is menstruating, in the center of the altar and perform the homa; altar Lakshmi is described as the primal nature with three qualities.
सा योनिः सर्वभूतानां विद्यामन्त्रगणस्य च। विमुक्तेः कारणं वह्निः परमात्मा च मुक्तिदः
She is the womb of all beings and of the collection of knowledge-mantras; fire is the cause of liberation, and the supreme self grants freedom.
प्राच्यां शिरः समाख्यातं बाहू कोणे व्यवस्थितौ। ईशानाग्नेयकोणे तु जङ्घे वायव्यनैर्ऋते
The head is described in the east, the arms are positioned at the corners; in the northeast and southeast are the thighs, in the northwest and southwest.
उदरं कुण्डमित्युक्तं योनिर्योनिर्विधीयते। गुणत्रयं मेखलाः स्युर्ध्यात्वैवं समिधो दश
The belly is called the vessel, and the womb is designated as the yoni; the three qualities are the girdles, and thus, meditating in this way, one should prepare ten kindling sticks.
पञ्चाधिकांस्तु जुहुयात् प्रणवान्मुष्टिमुद्रया । पुनराघारौ जुहुयाद्वाय्वग्न्यन्तं ततः श्रपेत्
One should offer five more oblations with the fist in the gesture of the praṇava; then, again, one may offer the āghāra oblations, ending with air and fire, and thereafter pour out the clarified butter.
ईशान्तं मूलप्रन्त्रेण आज्यभागौ तु होमयेत्। उत्तरे द्वादशान्तेन दक्षिणे तेन मध्यतः
With the end of the īśāna direction at the root, one should offer the portions of clarified butter; in the north with the end of twelve, in the south with the same, and in the middle likewise.
व्याहृत्या पद्ममध्यस्थं ध्यायेद्वह्निन्तु संस्कृतम्। वैष्णवं सप्तजिह्वं च सूर्यकोटिसमप्रभम्
With the utterance of the vyāhṛtis, one should meditate on the fire, purified, situated in the center of the lotus, possessing seven tongues, radiant as ten million suns, and bearing the aspect of Viṣṇu.
चन्द्रवक्त्रञ्च सूर्याक्षं जुहुयाच्छतमष्ट च। तदर्द्धञ्चष्ट मूलेन अह्गानाञ्च दशांशतः
With a face like the moon and eyes like the sun, one should offer one hundred and eight oblations; half of that with the root, and ten parts for the limbs.
अग्निरुवाच सम्पाताहुतिनासिच्य पवित्राण्याधिवासयेत्। तृसिंहमन्त्रजप्तानि गुप्तान्यस्त्रेण तानि तु
Agni said: After performing the sampāta oblation, one should sanctify the purifiers, having recited the Tri-siṃha mantra over them, keeping them concealed with the weapon mantra.
वस्त्रसंवेष्टितान्येव पात्रस्थान्यभिमन्त्रयेत्। विल्वाद्यद्भिः प्रोक्षितानि मन्त्रेण चैकधा
One should consecrate those placed in vessels, wrapped in cloth, sprinkling them with water from bilva and other sources, with the mantra, all together.
कुम्भपार्श्वे तु संस्थाप्य रक्षां विज्ञाप्य देशिकः। दन्तकाष्ठञ्चामलकं पूर्वे कङ्कर्षणेन तु
Placing them beside the pot, the teacher should announce the protection, and with a tooth-stick and amalaki fruit, draw lines to the east.
प्रद्युम्नेन भस्मतिलान् दक्षे गोमयमृत्तिकाम्। वारुणे चानिरुद्धेन सौम्ये नारायणेन च
With Pradyumna, one should use ashes and sesame seeds to the south; with cow dung and clay to the west; with Aniruddha to the north; and with Nārāyaṇa to the northeast.
दर्भोदकञ्चाथ हृदा अग्नौ कुङ्कुमरोचनम्। ऐशान्यां शिरसा धूपं शिखया नैर्ऋतेप्यथ
Then, with darbha water at the heart, saffron and red powder in the fire; incense at the head in the northeast, and with the topknot in the southwest.
मूलपुष्पाणि दिव्यानि कवचेनाथ वायवे। चन्दनाम्ब्वक्षतदधिदूर्वाश्च पुटिकास्थिताः
Divine root-flowers with armor to the northwest wind; sandal-water, rice, curd, and dūrvā grass placed in a small basket.
गृहं त्रिसूत्रेणावेष्ट्य पुनः सिद्धार्थकान् क्षिपेत्। दद्यात्पूजाक्रमेणाथ स्वैः स्वैर्गन्धपवित्रकम्
Encircling the house with a triple thread, one should then scatter siddhārtha seeds, and in the order of worship, offer each one's own fragrant purifier.
मन्त्रैर्वै द्वारपादिभ्यो विष्णुकुम्भे त्वनेन च। विष्णुतेजोभवं रम्यं सर्वपातकनाशनम्
With mantras, to the guardians of the doors and feet, and with this in the Viṣṇu pot; the radiant energy of Viṣṇu, delightful, destroyer of all sins.
सर्वकामप्रदं देवं तवाङ्गे धारयाम्यहम्। सम्पूज्य धूपदीपद्यैर्व्रजेद् द्वारसमीपतः
I bear upon your body the deity who grants all desires; having worshipped with incense and lamps, one should proceed near the doorway.
गन्धपुष्पाक्षतोपेतं पवित्रञ्चाशिलेर्प्पयेत् । पवित्रं वैष्णवं तेजो महापातकनाशनम्
One should place the purifier, adorned with fragrance, flowers, and rice, on the stone; the Vaiṣṇava purifier, radiant, destroyer of great sins.
धर्म्मकामार्थसिद्ध्यर्थं स्वकेङ्गे धारयाम्यहम्। आसने परिवारादौ गुरौ दद्यात् पवित्रकम्
For the accomplishment of dharma, desire, and wealth, I bear it upon my own body; on the seat, at the beginning of the assembly, one should give the purifier to the teacher.
