कालतत्त्वञ्च सूर्यादिमण्डलं पक्षिराजकः। मध्ये ततश्च वायव्यादीशान्ता गुरुपङ्क्तिकाः
The principle of time, the solar and other spheres, the king of birds; then in the middle, the series of deities from Vāyu to Īśāna, in the line of teachers.
गणः सरस्वती पूज्या नारदो नलकूबरः। गुरुर्गरुपादुका च परो गुरुश्च पादुका
The group: Sarasvatī is to be worshipped, Nārada, Nalakūbara; the teacher, the teacher's sandals, the supreme teacher, and the sandals.
पूर्वसिद्धाः परसिद्धाः केशरेषु च शक्तयः। लक्ष्मीः सरस्वती प्रीतिः कीर्त्तिः शान्तिश्च कान्तिका
The accomplished ones of the past, those accomplished later, the powers in the filaments; Lakṣmī, Sarasvatī, Affection, Fame, Peace, and Beauty.
पुष्टिस्तुष्टिर्म्महेन्द्राद्या मध्ये चावाहितो हरिः । धृतिः श्रीरतिकान्त्याद्या मूलेन स्थापितोऽच्युतः
Nourishment, Satisfaction, Indra and others in the middle, with Hari invoked; Steadfastness, Splendor, Delight, Beauty, and others—Acyuta is established at the root.
ओं अभिमुखो भवेत् प्रार्थ्य प्राच्यां सन्निहितो भव। विन्यस्यार्घ्यादिकं दत्त्वा गन्धाद्यैर्मूलतो यजेत्
Oṃ. One should face towards (the deity), pray, and be present in the eastern direction; after placing and offering water and the like, one should worship at the root with scents and so on.
ओं भीषय भीषय हृत् शिरस्त्रासय वै पुनः। मर्द्दय मर्द्दय शिखा अग्न्यादौ शस्त्रतोस्त्रकं
Oṃ. Terrify, terrify! Strike fear into the heart and head again; crush, crush! The topknot, in the fire and so on, the weapon and missile.
रक्ष रक्ष प्रध्वंसय प्रध्वंसय कवचाय नमस्ततः। ओं ह्रूं फट् अस्त्राय नमो मूलबीजेन चाङ्गकम्
Protect, protect! Destroy, destroy! Salutation to the armor; Oṃ hrūṃ phaṭ, salutation to the missile, and to the root seed and the limbs.
पूर्व्वदक्षाप्यसौम्येषु मूर्त्त्यावरणमर्च्चयेत्। वासुदेवः सङ्कर्षणः प्रद्युम्नश्चानिरुद्धकः
In the east, south, west, and north, one should worship the forms with coverings: Vāsudeva, Saṅkarṣaṇa, Pradyumna, and Aniruddha.
अग्न्यादौ श्रीधृतिरतिकान्तयो मूर्त्तयो हरेः। शङ्खचक्रगदापद्ममग्न्यादौ पूर्व्वकादिकम्
At the fire and so on, the forms of Śrī, Steadfastness, Delight, and Beauty, belonging to Hari; the conch, discus, mace, and lotus, at the fire and so on, from the east onward.
शार्ङ्गञ्च मुषलं खङ्गं वनमालाञ्च तद्बहिः। इन्द्राद्याश्च तथानन्तो नैर्ऋत्यां वरुणस्ततः
The bow Śārṅga, the pestle, the sword, and the forest garland outside that; Indra and others, and also Ananta, in the southwest Varuṇa thereafter.
ब्रह्नेन्द्रेशानयोर्मध्ये अस्त्रावरणकं बहिः। ऐरावतस्ततश्छागो महिषो वानरो झषः
Between Brahmā and Indra and Īśāna, outside is the covering of weapons; then Airāvata, the goat, the buffalo, the monkey, and the fish.
मृगः शशोऽथ वृषभः कूर्म्मो हंसस्ततो बहिः। पृश्निगर्भः कुमुदाद्या द्वारपाला द्वयं द्वयम्
The deer, the hare, then the bull, the tortoise, the swan, then outside; Pṛśnigarbha, Kumuda and others, two pairs of doorkeepers.
पूर्व्वाद्युत्तरद्वारान्तं हरिं नत्वा बलिं बहिः। विष्णुपार्षदेभ्यो नमो बलिपीठे बलिं ददेत्
After bowing to Hari at the eastern and northern doors, outside, one should offer the bali; salutation to the attendants of Viṣṇu, one should give the offering at the bali-seat.
विश्वाय विश्वक्सेनात्मने ईशानके यजेत्। देवस्य दक्षिणे हस्ते रक्षासूत्रञ्च बन्धयेत्
To Viśva, to Viśvaksena, one should worship at the Īśāna corner; on the god's right hand, one should tie the protective thread.
संवत्सरकृतार्चायाः सम्पूर्णफलदायिने। पवित्रारोहणायेदं कौतुकं धारय ओं नमः
To the one who grants the full fruit of worship performed throughout the year; for the wearing of the sacred thread, let this auspicious token be worn—oṃ, salutation.
उपवासादिनियमं कुर्याद्वै देवसन्निधौ। उपवासादिनियतो देवं सन्तोषयाम्यहम्
One should observe fasting and other disciplines in the presence of the deity; by fasting and such discipline, I satisfy the deity.
कामक्रोधादयः सर्वे मा मे तिष्ठन्तु सर्वथा। अद्यप्रभृति देवेश यावद्वैशेषिकं दिनम्
May all desires, anger, and the rest not remain with me in any way; from today, O Lord of gods, until the special day.
यजमानो ह्यशक्तश्चेत् कुर्य्यान्नक्तादिकं व्रती। हुत्वा विसर्जयेत् स्तुत्वा श्रीकरन्नित्यपूजनम्
If the sacrificer is unable, the vow-holder should perform night-fasting and the like; after making the offering, he should dismiss (the deity), praise, and perform the auspicious daily worship.
अग्निरुवाच विशेदनेन मन्त्रेण यागस्थानञ्च भूषयेत्। नमो ब्रह्मण्यदेवाय श्रीधरायाव्ययात्मने
Agni said: With this mantra, one should adorn the sacrificial place: 'Salutations to the god of the Brahmins, to Śrīdhara, the imperishable Self.'
ऋग्यजुः सामरूपाय शब्ददेहाय विष्णवे। विलिख्य मण्डलं सायं यागद्रव्यादि चाहरेत्
To Viṣṇu, who is of the form of Ṛk, Yajus, and Sāman, whose body is sound—having drawn the maṇḍala in the evening, one should bring the sacrificial materials and the rest.
प्रक्षालितकराङ्घ्रिः सन् विन्यस्यार्घ्यकरो नरः। अर्घ्याद्भिस्तु शिरः प्रोक्ष्च द्वारदेशादिकं तथा
Having washed hands and feet, a man should place the vessel for arghya; with the arghya waters, he should sprinkle the head and also the entrance and other places.
आरभेद् द्वारयागञ्च तोरणेशान् प्रपूजयेत्। अश्वत्थोदुम्बरवटप्लक्षाः पूर्वादिगा नगाः
He should begin the door worship and honor the guardians of the gateways; the sacred trees—Aśvattha, Udumbara, Vaṭa, and Plakṣa—are to be placed in the eastern and other directions.
ऋगिन्द्रशोभनं प्राच्यां यजुर्यमसुभद्रकम्। सामापश्च सुधन्वाख्यं सोमाथर्वसुहोत्रकम्
The Ṛk named Indraśobhana in the east, the Yajus called Yamasubhadraka, the Sāman named Sudhanvan, and the Atharvan called Suhotraka of Soma—these are to be used.
तोरणान्ताः पताकाश्च कुमुदाद्या घटद्वयम्। द्वारि द्वारि स्वनाम्नार्च्याः पूर्वे पूर्णश्च पुष्करः
At the ends of the gateways, flags and two pots beginning with kumuda should be placed; at each door, worship the respective deities by name, and in the east, a full blue lotus.
आनन्दनन्दनौ दक्षो वीरसेनः सुषेणकः। सम्भवप्रभवौ सौम्ये द्वारपांश्चैव पूजयेत्
Ānanda and Nandana, Dakṣa, Vīrasena, Suṣeṇaka, Sambhava and Prabhava—these gentle doorkeepers are also to be worshipped.
अस्त्रजप्तपुष्पक्षेपाद्विघ्नानुत्सार्य संविशेत्। भूतशुद्धिं विधायाथ विन्यस्य कृतमुद्रकः
After reciting the weapon mantra and scattering flowers, one should drive away obstacles and enter; then, having performed purification of the elements, and displaying the prescribed mudrā,
फट्कारान्तां शिखां जप्त्वा सर्षपान् दिक्षु निक्षिपेत्। वासुदेवेन गोमूत्रं सङ्कर्षणेन गोमयम्
Reciting the śikhā mantra ending with 'phaṭ', one should place mustard seeds in the directions; with Vāsudeva, cow urine; with Saṅkarṣaṇa, cow dung.
प्रद्युम्नेन पयस्तज्जाद् दधि नारायणाद् घृतम्। एकद्वित्र्यादिवाराणि घृताद्वै भागतोधिकम्
With Pradyumna, milk; with Nārāyaṇa, curd and ghee; for one, two, three, and so on, the quantity of ghee should be increased by a share each time.
घृतपात्रे तदेकत्र पञ्चगव्यमुदाहृतम्। मण्डपष्रोक्षणायैकञ्चापरम्प्राशनाय च
In a vessel with ghee, all these together are called pañcagavya; one portion is for sprinkling the pavilion, another for sipping.
स्नानाय दशकुम्भेषु इन्द्राद्यान् लोकपान् यजेत्। पूज्याज्ञां श्रावयेत्तांश्च स्थातव्यं चाज्ञया हरेः
For bathing, in ten pots, one should worship the guardians of the worlds, beginning with Indra; announce the command to worship them, and remain according to the order of Hari.
