त्रिष्विष्टमधुरौ स्वादू मृदू चातीक्ष्णकोमलौ । सत्ये साधौ विद्यमाने प्रशस्तेऽभ्यर्हिते च सत् ।।३६२.
Among three, the sweet, pleasant, soft, and also the very sharp and delicate; in truth, in virtue, in what exists, in what is praised, and in what is worthy, there is the essence.
विधिर्विधाने दैवेऽपि प्रणिधिः प्रार्थने चरे । वधूर्जाया स्नुषा स्त्री च सुधालेपोऽमृतं स्नुही ।। ३६२.
The rule and its application, even in divine matters, observation and supplication are practiced; wife, spouse, daughter-in-law, woman, nectar, and the juice of the snuhi plant are like ambrosia.
स्पृहा सम्प्रत्ययः श्रद्धा पणिडतम्मन्यगर्व्वितौ । ब्रह्मबन्धुरधिक्षेपे भानूरश्मिदिवाकरौ ।। ३६२.
Desire, conviction, faith, the most learned, pride of mind; insult to a relative of a Brahmin, the sun, its rays, and the day-maker.
द्कालाणौ शैलपाषाणौ मूर्खनीचौ पृथग्जनौ । तरुशैलौ शिखरिणौ तनुस्त्वग्देहयोरपि ।। ३६२.
Two times, two stones, the foolish and the lowly, two separate people; tree and mountain, peak and summit, and also the body and skin among bodies.
आत्मा यत्नो धृतिर्बुद्धिः स्वभावो ब्रह्म वर्ष्म च । उत्थानं पौरुषे तन्त्रे व्युत्थानं प्रतिरोधने ।। ३६२.
The self, effort, firmness, intellect, nature, Brahman, and stature; rising in action, and rising in opposition.
निर्य्यातनं वैरशुद्धौ दाने न्यासार्पणेऽपि च । व्यसनं विपदि भ्रंशे दोषे कामजकोपजे ।। ३६२.
Departure in purification of enmity, in giving, in offering and dedication; adversity in misfortune, loss, fault arising from desire and anger.
मृगयाक्षो दिवास्वप्नः परिवादः स्त्रियो मदः । तौर्य्यत्रिकं वृथाट्या च कामजो दशको गणः ।। ३६२.
Hunting, dice, daydreaming, slander, women, intoxication; the triple arts, useless wandering, and the tenfold group arising from desire.
पैशून्यं साहसं द्रोह ईर्ष्यासूयार्थदूषणम् । वाग्दण्डश्चैव पारुष्यं क्रोधजोऽपि गणोऽष्टकः ।। ३६२.
Slander, violence, betrayal, envy, jealousy, corruption of wealth; harsh speech and cruelty, the eightfold group arising from anger.
अकर्म्मगुह्ये कौपीनं मैथुनं सङ्गतौ रतौ । प्रधानं परमार्था धीः प्रज्ञानं बुद्धिचिह्नयोः ।। ३६२.
Inaction in secrecy, loincloth, sexual union in association and pleasure; primacy in ultimate meaning, intelligence, and the marks of wisdom.
क्रन्दने रोदनाह्वाने वष्म देहप्रमाणयोः । आराधनं साधने स्यादवाप्तौ तोषणेऽपि च ।। ३६२.
In crying, calling, and measuring the body; worship in accomplishment, and satisfaction in attainment.
रत्नं स्वजातिश्रेष्ठेऽपि लक्ष्म चिह्निप्रधानयोः । कलापो भूषणे वर्हे तूणीरे संहतेऽपि च ।। ३६२.
A jewel, even among one's own best kind, and a mark among principal signs; a sheath in ornament, a bow in a quiver, and in what is gathered together.
तल्पं शय्याट्टदारेषु डिम्भौ तु शिशुवालिशौ । स्तम्भौ स्थूणाजड़ीभावौ सभ्ये संसदि वै सभा ।। ३६२.
A couch in beds and sleeping places, infants among children; pillars and posts in aged forms, and assembly in council, truly the gathering.
किरणप्रग्र्हौ रश्मी धर्म्माः पुण्ययमादयः । ललामं पुच्छपुण्ड्राश्वभूषाप्राधान्यकेतुषु ।। ३६२.
Ray and beam, righteous deeds, sources of merit; crest, tail, and mark among principal ornaments of horses.
प्रत्ययोऽधीनशपथज्ञानविस्वासहेतुषु । समयाः शपथाचारकालसिद्धान्तसंविदः ।। ३६२.
Conviction in causes of dependence, oath, knowledge, and trust; agreements, oath, conduct, time, established doctrine, and understanding.
अत्ययोऽतिक्रमे कृच्छ्रे सत्यं शपथतथ्ययोः । वीर्य्यं बलप्रभावौ च रूप्यं रूपे प्रशस्तके ।। ३६२.
Transgression in excess, difficulty, truth in oath and falsehood; strength, power, and influence, and silver in form and excellence.
दुरोदरो द्युतकारे पणे द्यूते दुरोदरं । महारण्ये दुर्गपथे कान्तारः पुन्नपुंसकं ।। ३६२.
A hollow belly in gambling, a stake in dice, a hollow belly in gambling; in a great forest, a difficult path, wilderness, and neuter gender.
यमानिलेन्द्रचन्द्रार्कविष्णुसिंहादिके हरिः । दशेऽस्त्रियां भये श्वभ्रे जठरः कठिनेऽपि च ।। ३६२.
Hari is present as Yama, Wind, Indra, Moon, Sun, Vishnu, Lion, and others; in a woman’s fear, in an abyss, and even in a hard belly.
उदारो दातृमहतोरितरस्त्वन्यनीचयोः । चूड़ा किरीटं केशाश्च संयता मौलयस्त्रयः ।। ३६२.
He is generous in the great donor, and otherwise in those of lesser status; the crest-jewel is a crown, hair is also called keśa, and the tied hair at the top is called mauli, with three types.
बलिः करोपहारादौ सैन्यस्थैर्य्यादिके बलं । स्त्रीकटीवस्त्रबन्धेऽपि नीवी परिपणेऽपि च ।। ३६२.
Bali is an offering made by hand; bala is steadiness in an army and similar contexts; nīvī is the cloth tied at a woman’s waist, and also the girdle in a wager.
शुक्रले मूषिके श्रेष्ठे सुकृते वृषभे वृषः । द्यूताक्षे सारिफलकेऽप्याकर्षोऽथाऽक्षमिन्द्रिये ।। ३६२.
Śukra is semen, mūṣika is a mouse, śreṣṭha means excellent, vṛṣa is a bull, dyūtākṣa is a gaming die, sāriphalaka is a game board, ākarṣa is attraction, and akṣa is also a sense organ.
ना द्यूताङ्गे च कर्षे च व्यवहारे कलिद्रुमे । उष्णीषः स्यान् किरीटादौ कर्षूः कुल्याभिधायिनी ।। ३६२.
In gambling, in drawing lots, in legal dealings, and in the age of Kali, uṣṇīṣa is a turban, kirīṭa is a crown, karṣū is a measure, and kulyā refers to a water channel.
प्रत्यक्षेऽधिकृतेऽध्याक्षः सूर्य्यवह्नी विभावसू । श्रृङ्गारादौ विषे वोर्य्ये गुणे रागे द्रवे रसः ।। ३६२.
In direct perception, the official is called adhyakṣa; Sūrya and Agni are vibhāvasu; in love, viṣa is poison, voryya is a horse, guṇa is a quality, rāga is attachment, drava is liquid, and rasa is taste.
तेजःपुरीषयोर्वर्च्च आगः पापापराधयोः । छन्दः पद्येऽभिलाषे च साधीयान् साधुवाढयोः ३६२.
Varcca is brilliance in fire and excrement; āgaḥ is sin and offense; chandaḥ is meter in poetry and also desire; sādhīyān is superior, and sādhu is a good person.
अग्निरुवाच वक्ष्ये भूपुराद्रिवनौषधिसिंहादिवर्गकान् । भूरनन्ता क्षमा धात्री क्ष्माप्या कुः स्याद्धरित्र्यपि ।। ३६३.
Agni said: I will describe the groups of earth, mountains, forests, herbs, lions, and others; bhū, anantā, kṣamā, dhātrī, kṣmāpyā, kuḥ, and dharitri are all names for earth.
मृन्मृत्तिका प्रशस्ता तु मृत्सा मृत्स्ना च मृत्तिका । जगत्त्रिपिष्टपं लोकं भुवनं जगती समा ।। ३६३.
Mṛn, mṛttikā, praśastā, mṛtsā, mṛtsnā, and mṛttikā are all terms for clay; jagat, tripiṣṭapa, loka, bhuvana, and jagatī are all names for the world.
अयनं वर्त्म मार्गाध्वपन्थानः पदवी सृतिः । सरणिः पद्धतिः पद्या वर्त्तन्येकपदीति च ।। ३६३.
Ayana, vartma, mārga, adhva, panthānaḥ, padavī, sṛti, saraṇi, paddhati, padyā, vartani, and ekapadī all mean path or way.
पूः स्त्री पुरीनगर्य्यौ वा पत्तनं पुटभेदनम् । स्यानीयं निगमोऽन्यत्तु यन्मूलनगरात्पुरम् ।। ३६३.
Pūḥ, purī, nagarī, pattana, and puṭabhedana are names for a city; nīya and nigama are other terms, and a city founded from a root city is called puram.
तच्छाशानगरं वेशो वेश्याजनसमाश्रयः । आपणस्तु निषद्यायां विपणिः पण्यवीथिका ।। ३६३.
Tacchāśānagara is a city quarter; veśa is a dwelling, veśyājana is a brothel; āpaṇa is a market for sitting, vipaṇi is a shop, and paṇyavīthikā is a market street.
रथ्या प्रतोली विशिखा स्याच्चयो वप्रमस्त्रियां । प्राकारो वरणः शालः प्राचीरं प्रान्ततो वृतिः ।। ३६३.
Rathyā, pratolī, and viśikhā are streets; cyaya is a mound, vapra is a rampart, and astriyā is a woman; prākāra is a wall, varaṇa is a fence, śāla is a hall, prācīra is a boundary wall, and vṛti is an enclosure at the edge.
भित्तिः स्त्री कुड्यमेडूकं यदन्तर्नस्तकीकसं । वासः कुटी द्वयोः शाला सभा सञ्जवनन्त्विदम् ।। ३६३.
Bhitti is a wall, kuḍya is a wall, eḍūka is a granary, and anything inside is called nastakīka; vāsa is a dwelling, kuṭī is a hut, śālā is a hall for two, sabhā is an assembly hall, and sañjavana is the same.
