अष्टोत्तरशतादूर्द्ध्वं तदर्द्धं चोत्तमादिकम्। क्रियालोपविधानार्थं यत्त्वयाभिहितं प्रभो
Above one hundred and eight, or half of that for the best kind; as you have prescribed, O Lord, for the sake of the proper performance of the rite.
मया तत् क्रियते देव यथा यत्र पवित्रकम्। अविध्नं तु भवेदत्र कुरु नाथ जयाव्यय
I perform it thus, O God, wherever the Pavitra is; let there be no obstacle here, O Lord, grant victory and imperishability.
प्रार्थ्य तन्मण्डलायादौ गायत्र्या बन्धयेन्नरः। ओं नारायणाय विद्महे वासुदेवाय धीमहि
Having prayed, at the beginning of the circle, one should tie it with the Gāyatrī: Om, we contemplate Nārāyaṇa, we meditate on Vāsudeva.
तन्नो विष्णुः प्रचोदयात् देवदेवानुरूपतः। जानूरुनाभिनासान्तं प्रतिमासु पवित्रकम्
May Viṣṇu inspire us, in accordance with the Lord of gods; from the knees to the navel and nose, the Pavitra is placed on the images.
पादान्ता वनमाला स्यादष्टोत्तरसहस्रतः । मालां तु कल्पसाध्यां वा द्विगुणं षोडशाङ्गुलाम्
The garland should reach to the feet, or be a forest garland of more than one thousand and eight; or a garland accomplished by the rule, twice as long, sixteen fingers in length.
कर्णिका केशरं पत्रं मन्त्राद्यं मण्डलान्तकम्। मण्डलाङ्गुलमात्रैकचक्राब्जाद्यौ पवित्रकम्
The center, the filament, the leaf, the mantra, and the end of the circle; the Pavitra is like a single-wheeled lotus, the measure of a finger in the circle.
स्थण्डिलेऽङ्गुलमानेन आत्मनः सप्तविंशतिः। आचार्य्याणां च सूत्राणि पितृमात्रादिपुस्तके
On the altar, the measure is twenty-seven of one's own fingers; the threads for teachers, and for ancestors and mothers, are in the book.
नाभ्यन्तं द्वादशग्रन्थिं तथा गन्धपवित्रके। द्व्यङ्गुलात् कल्पनादौ द्विर्माला चाष्टोत्तरं शतम्
Inside, twelve knots, and likewise for the fragrant Pavitra; at the beginning, two fingers, and a double garland of one hundred and eight.
अथवार्कचतुर्विंशषट्त्रिंशन्मालिका द्विजः। अनामामध्यमाङ्गुष्ठैर्मन्दाद्यैः मालिकार्थिभिः
Or, a garland of twenty-four or thirty-six for the Sun; with the ring finger, middle finger, and thumb, by those who desire the garland, beginning with the slowest.
कनिष्ठा दौ द्वादश वा ग्रन्थयः स्युः पवित्रके। रवेः कुम्भहुताशादेः सम्भवे विष्णुवन्मतम्
The little finger and the next, or twelve knots, should be in the Pavitra; for the Sun, the pot, and the fire, this is the view of the Vaiṣṇavas.
पीठस्य पीठमानं स्यान्मेखलान्ते च कुण्डके। यथाशक्ति सूत्रग्रन्थिः परिचारेथ वैष्णवे
The measure of the seat should be at the end of the girdle, at the coil; as much as possible, the thread and knots should be for the Vaiṣṇava attendant.
सूत्राणि वा सप्तदश सूत्रेण त्रिविभक्तके । रोचनागुरुकर्पूरहरिद्राकुङ्कुमादिभिः
Or seventeen threads, divided into three by a thread; with rocanā, aguru, camphor, turmeric, saffron, and the like.
रञ्जयेच्चन्दनाद्यैर्वा स्नानसन्ध्यादिकृन्नरः। एकादश्यां यागगृहे भगवंतं हरिं यजेत्
A man should adorn (the Lord) with sandal and other substances, perform bathing, twilight rituals, and the like; on the eleventh day, he should worship the Blessed Hari in the sacrificial hall.
समस्तपरिवाराय बलिं पीठे समर्चयेत्। क्षौं क्षेत्रपालाय द्वारान्ते द्वारोपरि तथा श्रियम्
He should offer bali on the altar for all the attendants; at the threshold, he should offer cloth to the guardian of the field, and likewise, wealth at the door.
धात्रे दक्षे विधात्रे च गङ्गाञ्च यमुनां तथा। शङ्खपद्मनिधी पूज्य मध्ये वास्त्वपसारणम्
To Dhātṛ, Dakṣa, Vidhātṛ, as well as to Gaṅgā and Yamunā, and to the conch, lotus, and treasures, worship should be performed; in the center, the expulsion of negative influences from the site.
ओं ह्रूं हः फट् ह्रं गन्धतन्मात्रं संहरामि नमः ।। ओं ह्रूं हः फट् ह्रूं रसतन्मात्रं संहरामि नमः । ओं ह्रूं हः फट् ह्रुं रूपतन्मात्रं संहरामि नमः ।। ओं ह्रूं हः फट् ह्रूं स्पर्शतन्मात्रं संहरामि नमः । ओं ह्रूं हः फट् ह्रूं शब्दतन्मात्रं संहरामि नमः ।। पञ्चोद्घातैर्गन्धतन्मात्ररूपं भूमिमण्डलम्। चतुरस्रञ्च पीतञ्च कठिनं वज्रलाञ्छितम्
Om hrūm haḥ phaṭ hram, I withdraw the subtle element of scent, obeisance; Om hrūm haḥ phaṭ hrūm, I withdraw the subtle element of taste, obeisance; Om hrūm haḥ phaṭ hruṃ, I withdraw the subtle element of form, obeisance; Om hrūm haḥ phaṭ hrūm, I withdraw the subtle element of touch, obeisance; Om hrūm haḥ phaṭ hrūm, I withdraw the subtle element of sound, obeisance. With the five withdrawals, the earth-mandala, square, yellow, hard, marked with a thunderbolt, is visualized as the form of the scent-element.
इन्द्राधिदैवतं पादयुग्ममध्यगतं स्मरेत्। शुद्धञ्च रसतन्मात्रं प्रविलिप्याथ संहरेत्
One should meditate upon Indra as the presiding deity, situated in the middle of the pair of feet; then, having anointed with the pure taste-element, one should withdraw it.
ओं ह्रीं हः फट् ह्रूं रसतन्मात्रं संहरामि नमः ।। ओं ह्रूं हः फट् रूपतन्मात्रं संहरामि नमः। ओं ह्रीं हः फट् ह्रूं स्पर्शतन्मात्रं संहरामि नमः ।। ओं ह्रीं हः फट् ह्रूं शब्दतन्मात्रं संहरामि नमः। जानुनाभिमध्यगतं श्वेतं वै पद्मलाञ्छितम्। शुवलवर्णं चार्द्धचन्द्रं ध्यायेद्वरुणदैवतम्
Om hrīṃ haḥ phaṭ hrūm, I withdraw the subtle element of taste, obeisance; Om hrūm haḥ phaṭ, I withdraw the subtle element of form, obeisance; Om hrīṃ haḥ phaṭ hrūm, I withdraw the subtle element of touch, obeisance; Om hrīṃ haḥ phaṭ hrūm, I withdraw the subtle element of sound, obeisance. In the middle between the knees and navel, white, marked with a lotus, of white color and half-moon shape, one should meditate on Varuṇa as the deity.
चतुर्भश्च तदुद्घातैः शुद्धं तद्रसमात्रकम्। संहरेद्रूपतन्मात्रै रूपमात्रे च संहरेन्
With four withdrawals, one should withdraw the pure taste-element; and with the form-elements, one should withdraw the form-element as well.
ओं ह्रूं हः फट् ह्रूं पूतन्मात्रं संहरामि नमः। ह्रूं हः फट् ह्रूं स्पर्शतन्मात्रं संहरामि नमः ।. ओं ह्रूं हः फट् ह्रूं शब्दतन्मात्रं संहरामि नमः । इति त्रिभिस्तदुद्घातैस्त्रिकोणं वह्निमण्डलम्। नाभिकण्ठमध्यगतं रक्तं स्वस्तिकलाञ्छितम्
Om hrūm haḥ phaṭ hrūm, I withdraw the subtle element of earth, obeisance; hrūm haḥ phaṭ hrūm, I withdraw the subtle element of touch, obeisance; Om hrūm haḥ phaṭ hrūm, I withdraw the subtle element of sound, obeisance. Thus, with three withdrawals, the fire-mandala, triangular, situated between the navel and throat, red, marked with a swastika, is visualized.
ध्यात्वानलाधिदैवन्तच्छुद्धं स्पर्शे लयं नयेत्। ओं ह्रौं हः फट् ह्रूं स्पर्शतन्मात्रं संहरामि नमः। ओं ह्रौं हः फट् ह्रूं शब्दतन्मात्रं संहरामि नमः
Meditating on Agni as the presiding deity, one should dissolve the pure touch-element; Om hrauṃ haḥ phaṭ hrūm, I withdraw the subtle element of touch, obeisance; Om hrauṃ haḥ phaṭ hrūm, I withdraw the subtle element of sound, obeisance.
द्विरुद्घातैर्धूम्रवर्णं ध्यायेच्छुद्धेन्दुलाञ्छितम्। स्पर्शमात्रं शब्दमात्रैः संहरेद्ध्यानयोगतः
With two withdrawals, one should meditate on the smoke-colored (mandala), marked with a pure moon; by means of meditation and yoga, one should withdraw the touch-element and the sound-element.
ओं ह्रौं हः फट् ह्रूं शब्दतन्मात्रं संहरामि नमः। एकोद्घातेन चाकाशं शुद्धस्फटिकसन्निभम्। नासापुटशिखान्तस्थमाकाशामुपसंहरेत्
Om hrauṃ haḥ phaṭ hrūm, I withdraw the subtle element of sound, obeisance; with one withdrawal, the ether, resembling pure crystal, situated at the tip of the nostrils, should be withdrawn.
शोषणाद्यैर्द्देशुद्धिं कुर्यादेवं क्रमात्तः। शुष्कं कलेवरं ध्यायेत् पादाद्यञ्च शिखान्तकम्
By drying and other means, one should purify the place in this sequence; one should meditate on the body as dry, from the feet up to the crown of the head.
यं बीजेन वं बीजेन ज्वालामालासमायुतम् । देहं रमित्यनेनैव ब्रह्मरन्ध्राद्विनिर्गतम्
With the syllable 'yaṃ' and the syllable 'vaṃ', the body is encircled by a garland of flames; thus, by this, the body is led out through the aperture of Brahman.
बिन्दुन्ध्यात्वा चामृतस्य तेन भस्म कलेवरम्। सम्प्लावयेल्लमित्यस्मात् देहं सम्पाद्य दिव्यकम्
Meditating on the bindu as nectar, with that, one should flood the body with ashes; thus, by this, the body is made divine.
न्यासं कृत्वा करे देहे मानसं यागमाचरेत्। विष्णुं साङ्गं हृदि पद्मे मानसैः कुसुमादिभि
Having performed nyāsa on the hand and body, one should conduct mental worship; in the lotus of the heart, with mental flowers and the like, one should worship Viṣṇu along with his limbs.
मूलमन्त्रेण देवेशम्प्रार्च्चयेद्भुक्तिमुक्तिदम्। स्वागतं देवदेवेश सन्निधौ भव केशव
With the root-mantra, one should worship the Lord of gods, the giver of enjoyment and liberation: 'Welcome, Lord of gods, O Keśava, be present here.'
गृहाण मानसीं पूजां यथार्थं परिभाविताम्। आधारशक्तिः कूर्माथ पूज्योनन्तो मही ततः
Accept this mental worship, properly conceived; the supporting power is the Tortoise, then Ananta is to be worshipped, and then the Earth.
मध्येग्न्यादौ च धर्माद्या अधर्मादीन्द्रमुख्यगम् । सत्त्वादि मध्ये पद्मञ्च मायाविद्याख्यतत्त्वके
In the middle, fire and the rest, along with Dharma and others, and Indra as chief among the unrighteous; in the middle, the lotus, and the principles called Māyā and Avidyā.
