Agni Purana

वलिः पूर्वैव मत्स्याद्यैर्धूपलेपे च हिङ्गुला । वचासिद्धार्थलशुनैश्चोद्‌र्ध्वग्राही महाग्रही ।। २९९.

For the previous grahī, offer bali with fish and the like, and fumigate with cinnabar; for the upward-seizing Mahāgrahī, use vacā, siddhārtha, and garlic.

उद्वेजनोद्‌र्ध्वनिःश्वासः स्वमुष्टिद्वयखादनं । रक्तचन्दनकुष्ठाद्यैर्धूपयेल्लेपयेच्छिशुं ।। २९९.

With agitation, upward breathing, and eating with both fists, fumigate and smear the child with red sandalwood, kuṣṭha, and similar substances.

कपिरोमनखैर्धूपो दशमी रोदनी ग्ररी । तच्चेष्टा रोदनं शश्वत् सुगन्धो नीलवर्णता ।। २९९.

Fumigate with monkey hair and nails for the tenth, Rodanī grahī; its symptoms are constant weeping, pleasant fragrance, and a bluish complexion.

धूपो निम्बेन भूतोग्रराजीसर्ज्जरसैर्ल्लिपेत् । बर्लि वहिर्हरेल्लाजकुल्माषकवकोदनम् ।। २९९.

Fumigate with neem, bhūtogra, rājī, and sarja resin; for bali, offer roasted barley, outside the house, along with lājā, kulmāṣa, and kodrava.

यावत्त्रयोदशाहं स्यादेवं धूपादिका क्रिया । गृह्णाति मासिकं वत्सं पूतनासङ्कुली ग्रही ।। २९९.

Continue these fumigation and related rites for up to thirteen days; the grahī called Pūtanāsaṅkulī seizes the monthly child.

काकवद्रोदनं स्वासो मूत्रगन्वोऽक्षिमीलनं । गोमूत्रस्नपनं त्स्य गोदन्तेन च धूपनम् ।। २९९.

Its symptoms are crow-like crying, labored breathing, passing urine and feces, and closing the eyes; bathe with cow urine and fumigate with godanti.

पीतवस्त्रं ददेद्रक्तस्रग्गन्धौ तैलदीपकः । त्रिविधं पायसम्मद्यं तिलमासञ्चतुर्व्विधम् ।। २९९.

Give yellow garments, a red garland, fragrant substances, and oil lamps; three kinds of rice pudding, liquor, sesame, and four kinds of pulses.

करञ्जाधो यमदिशि सप्ताहं तैर्बलिं हरेत् । द्विमासिकञ्च मुकुटा वपुः शीतञ्च शीतलं ।। २९९.

In the southern direction, offer bali for seven days with karañja and others; for the two-month-old, use a crown, and keep the body cool and comfortable.

छर्द्दिः स्यान्मुखशोषादिपुष्पगन्धांशुकानि च । अपूपमोदनं दोपः कृष्णं नीरादि धूपकम् ।। २९९.

Vomiting, dryness of mouth, and the smell of flowers on the garments; offer apūpa and rice, and fumigate with black nīra and other substances.

तृतीये गोमुखी निद्रा सविण्मुत्रप्ररोदनम् । यवाः प्रियङ्गुः पलनं कुल्माषं शाकमोदनम् ।। २९९.

In the third, Gomukhī, symptoms are sleep, crying with urine and feces; offer barley, priyangu, palāna, kulmāṣa, and vegetable rice.

क्षीरं पूर्व्वे ददेन्मध्येऽहनि धूपश्च सर्पिषा । पञ्चभङ्गेन तत् स्नानं चतुर्थे पिङ्गलार्त्तिहृत् ।। २९९.

First give milk, then in the middle of the day fumigate with ghee; bathe the child with five substances, and in the fourth, relieve the suffering of Piṅgalā.

तनुः शीता पूतिगन्धः शोषः स म्रियते ध्रुवम् । पञ्चमी ललना गात्रसादः स्यान्मुखशोषणं ।। २९९.

The body becomes cold, emits a foul odor, dries up, and certainly dies; on the fifth day, the tongue and limbs weaken, and the mouth becomes parched.

अपानः पीतवर्णश्च मत्स्याद्यैर्द्दक्षइणे बलिः । षणअमासे पङ्कजा चेष्टा रोदनं विकृतः स्वरः ।। २९९.

The lower wind turns yellowish, and offerings of fish and similar things are made to the southern direction; in the sixth month, the body moves like a lotus, there is weeping, and the voice becomes distorted.

मत्स्यमांससुराभक्तपुष्पगन्धादिभिर्बलिः । सप्तमे तु निराहारा पूतिगन्धादिदन्तरुक् ।। २९९.

Offerings are made with the scent of fish, meat, liquor, food, and flowers; on the seventh day, there is fasting, foul odor, and pain in the teeth and mouth.

पिष्टमांससुरामांसैर्बलिः स्याद्यमुनाष्टमे । विस्फोटशोषणाद्यं स्यात् तच्चिकित्सान्न कारयेत् ।। २९९.

On the eighth day, offerings are made with ground meat, liquor, and flesh; there is blistering, drying, and similar symptoms, and no treatment should be administered.

नवमे कुम्भकर्ण्यार्त्तो ज्वरी च्छर्द्दति पालकम् । रोदनं मांसकुल्माषमद्याद्यैर्वैश्वके बलिः ।। २९९.

On the ninth day, the afflicted one acts like Kumbhakarna, is feverish, and vomits bile; there is weeping, and offerings of meat, pulses, liquor, and similar things are made to Vaiśvadeva.

दशमे तापसी चेष्टा निराहारोक्षइमीलनम् । घण्टा पताका पिष्टोक्ता सुरामांसबलिः समे ।। २९९.

On the tenth day, the behavior is ascetic, there is fasting, and the eyes remain open; a bell and banner are prescribed, and offerings of ground flour, liquor, and meat are made as before.

राक्षस्येकादशी पीड़ा नेत्राद्यं न चिकित्सनम् । चञ्चला द्वादशे श्वासः त्रासादिकविचेष्टितम् ।। २९९.

On the eleventh day, the demoness afflicts with pain beginning at the eyes, and there is no treatment; on the twelfth, there is restlessness, shortness of breath, and fearful movements.

बलिः पूर्वऽथ मध्याह्ने कुल्माषाद्यैस्तिलादिभिः । यातना तु द्वितीयेऽब्दे यातनं रोदनादिकम् ।। २९९.

Offerings are made in the morning and at midday with pulses, sesame, and similar things; in the second year, there is torment, including weeping and other suffering.

तिलमांसमद्यमांसैर्बलिः स्नानादि पूर्ववत् । तृतीये रोदनी कम्पो रोदनं रक्तमूत्रकं ।। २९९.

Offerings are made with sesame, meat, liquor, and flesh, with bathing and other rites as before; in the third year, there is weeping, trembling, and bloody urine.

गुड़ौदनं तिलापूपः प्रतिमा तिलपिष्टजा । तिलस्नानं पञ्चपत्रैर्धूपो राजफलत्वचा ।। २९९.

Thick rice, sesame cakes, and an image made of sesame flour are used; bathing with sesame, incense with five leaves, and fumigation with the bark of the rajaphala tree are prescribed.

चतुर्थे चटकाशोफो ज्वरः सर्व्वाङ्गसादनम् । मत्स्यमांसतिलाद्यैश्च बलिः स्नानञ्च धूपनम् ।। २९९.

In the fourth year, there is swelling of the cheeks, fever, and weakness of all limbs; offerings are made with fish, meat, sesame, and similar items, along with bathing and fumigation.

चञ्चला पञ्चमेऽब्दे तु ज्वरस्त्रासोऽङ्गसादनम् । मांसौदनाद्यैश्च वलिर्मेषश्रृङ्गेण धूपनम् ।। २९९.

In the fifth year, there is restlessness, fever, fear, and weakness of the limbs; offerings are made with meat rice and similar things, and fumigation is done with a ram's horn.

पलाशोदुम्बराश्वत्थवटबिल्वदलाम्बुधृक् । षष्ठेऽब्दे धावनीशोषो वैरस्यं३ गात्रसादनम् ।। २९९.

In the sixth year, leaves of palāśa, udumbara, aśvattha, vaṭa, and bilva trees are used for water; there is running, dryness, tastelessness, and weakness of the limbs.

सप्ताहोभिर्बलिः पूर्वैर्धूपस्नानञ्च भङ्गकैः । स्प्तमे यमुनाच्छर्दिरवचोहासरोदनम् ।। २९९.

For seven days, offerings are made as before, with fumigation and bathing using hemp; in the seventh year, there is vomiting by the Yamunā, incoherent speech, laughter, and weeping.

मांसपायसमद्याद्यैर्बलिः स्नानञ्च धूपनम् । अष्टमे वा जातवेदा निराहारं प्ररोदनम् ।। २९९.

Offerings are made with meat, rice pudding, liquor, and similar things, along with bathing and fumigation; in the eighth year, the afflicted one is without food and cries out.

कृशरापूपदध्याद्यैर्बलिः स्नानञ्च धूपनम् । कालाब्दे नवमे वाह्वोरास्फोटो गर्जनं भयम् ।। २९९.

Offerings are made with gruel, cakes, curds, and similar things, along with bathing and fumigation; in the ninth year, there are eruptions on the arms, roaring, and fear.

बलिः स्यात् कृशरापूपशक्तुकुल्मासपायसैः । दशमेऽब्दे कलहंसी दाहोऽङ्गकृशता ज्वरः ।। २९९.

Offerings are made with gruel, cakes, roasted flour, pulses, and rice pudding; in the tenth year, there is the behavior of a wild goose, burning, emaciation of the limbs, and fever.

पौलिकापूपदध्यन्नैः पञ्चरात्रं बलिं हरेत् । निम्बधूपकुष्ठलेप एकादशमके ग्रही ।। २९९.

For five nights, offerings are made with paulikā cakes, curds, and rice; in the eleventh year, fumigation with neem and anointing with kuṣṭha are prescribed for the possessed.
