दुष्टौ दूतस्य वाक्पादौ वातग्नी मध्यमो हरिः । प्रशस्ता वारुणा वर्णा अतिदुष्टा नपुंसकाः ।। २९४.
When the messenger is inauspicious, his speech and feet are of wind and fire; the middle is Hari; the auspicious are of Varuṇa's color; the excessively inauspicious are neuter.
प्रस्थाने मङ्गलं वाक्यं गर्ज्जितं मेघहस्तिनोः । प्रदक्षिणं फले वृक्षे वामस्य च रुतं जितं ।। २९४.
At departure, auspicious is the sound of thunder or an elephant; circling to the right, fruit on a tree, and the cry on the left are victorious.
शुभा गीतादिशब्दाः स्युरीदृशं स्यादसिद्धये । अनर्थगीरथाक्रन्दो दक्षिणे विरुतं क्षुतम् ।। २९४.
Auspicious are sounds like singing and the like; such as these are for success. Inarticulate speech, loud cries, and sounds on the right, sneezing, are inauspicious.
वेश्या क्षुतो नृपः कन्या गौर्द्दन्ती मुरजध्वजौ । क्षीराज्यदधिङ्खाम्बु छत्रं भेरी फलं सुराः ।। २९४.
A courtesan, sneezing, a king, a maiden, a cow with two teeth, a drum and a banner, milk, clarified butter, curd, water, an umbrella, a kettle drum, fruit, and the gods.
तण्डुला हेम रूप्यञ्च सिद्धयेऽभिमुखा अमी । सकाष्ठः सानलः कारुर्म्मलिनाम्बरभावभृत् ।। २९४.
Rice grains, gold, and silver are favorable for success; the artisan, with wood and fire, wearing soiled garments, is also auspicious.
गलस्थटङ्को गोमायुगृध्रोलूककपर्द्दिकाः । तैलं कपालकार्पासा निषेधे भस्म नष्टये ।। २९४.
A mark on the throat, jackal, hyena, owl, and a skull-crowned woman; oil, skull, and cotton are forbidden, and ash leads to loss.
विषरोगाश्च सप्त स्युर्धातोर्धात्वन्तराप्तितः । विषदंशो ललाटं यात्यतो नेत्रं ततो मुखम् । आस्याच्च वचनीनाड्यौ धातून् प्राप्नोति हि क्रमात् ।। २९४.
There are seven types of poison-diseases, arising from the contact of one element with another; the poison first reaches the forehead, then the eyes, then the mouth, and from the mouth it gradually enters the speech-nerves and the elements.
अग्निरुवाच मन्त्रध्यानौषधैर्दष्टतिकित्सां प्रवदामि ते । ॐ नमो भगवते नीलकण्ठायेति । जपनाद्विषहानिः स्यादौषधं जीवरक्षणं ।। २९५.
Agni said: I will explain to you the treatment for a bite using mantra, meditation, and herbs. By reciting 'Om, obeisance to the blessed blue-throated one,' poison is destroyed, and the medicine preserves life.
साकज्यं सकृद्रसं पेयं द्विविधं विषमुच्यते । जङ्गमं सर्पमूषादि श्रृङ्ग्यादि स्थावरं विषं ।। २९५.
Poison is said to be of two kinds: that which is taken with food or drink, and that which is not. Animal poison is from snakes and scorpions; plant poison is from horned creatures and the like.
शान्तस्वरान्वितो ब्रह्मा लोहितं तारकं शिवः । वियतेर्नाममन्त्रोऽयं तार्क्षः शब्दमयः स्मृतः ।। २९५.
Brahma is associated with a calm tone, blood with a piercing tone, Shiva with a star-like tone; the mantra of the sky is called Tārkṣa, and is said to be composed of sound.
ॐ ज्वल महामते हृदयाय गरुडविशलशिरसे गरुडशिखायै गरुड विषभञ्जन प्रभेदन प्रभेदन वित्रासय विमर्द्दय विमर्द्दय कवचाय अप्रतिहतशासनं वं हूं फट् अस्त्राय उग्ररूपधारक सर्वभयङ्कर भीषय सर्वं दह दह भस्मीकुरु कुरु स्वाहा नेत्राय । सप्तवर्गान्तयुग्माष्टदिग्दलस्वर केशरादिवर्णरुद्धं वह्निराभूतकर्णिकं मातृकाम्बुजं । कृत्वा हृदिस्थं तन्मन्त्री वामहस्ततले स्मरेत् । अह्गुष्ठादौ न्यसेद्वर्णान्वियतेर्भेदिताः कलाः ।। २९५.
Om, blaze forth, O great-minded one, for the heart, for Garuḍa with the vast head, for the Garuḍa crest, O Garuḍa, destroyer and breaker of poison, terrify, crush, crush, for the armor, for the command that cannot be resisted, vaṃ hūṃ phaṭ for the weapon, bearer of a fierce form, terrifying to all, frighten all, burn, burn, reduce to ashes, svāhā for the eyes. Having made the lotus of letters, with the seven pairs of directions, petals, filaments, and the fiery pericarp, and placing it in the heart, the practitioner should remember it in the left palm, and place the letters, divided according to the sky, at the tips of the fingers.
पीतं वज्रचतुष्कोणं पार्थिवं शक्रदैवतं । वृत्तार्द्धमाप्यपद्मार्द्धं शुक्लं वरुणदैवतं ।। २९५.
The earth element is yellow, in the form of a four-sided thunderbolt, with Indra as its deity; the water element is white, half circular, half lotus-shaped, with Varuṇa as its deity.
त्र्यस्त्रं स्वस्तिकयुक्तञ्च तैजसं वह्निदैवतं । वृत्तं विन्दुवृतं वायुदैवतं कृष्णमालिनम् ।। २९५.
The fire element is triangular, marked with a svastika, with Agni as its deity; the air element is circular, surrounded by a dot, black and garlanded, with Vāyu as its deity.
अङ्गुष्ठाद्यङ्गुलीमध्ये पर्य्यस्तेषु स्ववेश्मसु । सुवर्णनागवाहेन वेष्टितेषु न्यसेत् क्रमात् ।। २९५.
On the middle joints of the fingers, beginning with the thumb, in their respective places, encircled by the golden serpent, one should place them in order.
वियतेश्चतुरो वर्णान् सुमण्डलसमत्विषः । अरूपे रवतन्मात्रे आकाशेशिवदेवते ।। २९५.
One should place the four letters of the sky, shining like a perfect circle, in the formless, in the solar essence, with Śiva as the deity of space.
कनिष्ठामद्यपर्वस्थे न्यसेत्तस्याद्यमक्षरम् । नागानामादिवर्णांश्च स्वमण्डलगतान्न्यसेत् ।। २९५.
On the middle joint of the little finger, one should place its first letter; and the initial letters of the serpents, as they are situated in their own circles.
भूतादिवर्णान् विन्यसेदङ्गुष्ठाद्यन्तपर्वसु । तन्मात्रादिगुणाभ्यर्णानङ्गुलीषु न्यसेद्बुधः ।। २९५.
One should place the letters of the elements on the joints from the thumb onwards; the wise should place the subtle qualities, beginning with the tanmātras, on the fingers.
स्पर्शनादेव तार्क्षेण हस्ते हन्याद्विषद्वयं । मण्डलादिषु तान् वर्णान् वियतेः कवयो जितान् ।। २९५.
By the mere touch of Tārkṣa on the hand, both kinds of poison are destroyed; the letters, mastered by the poets, are placed in the circles and so forth of the sky.
श्रेष्ठद्वय्ह्गुलिभिर्द्देहनाभिस्थानेषु पर्वसु । आजानुतः सुवर्णाभमानाभेस्तुहिनप्रभम् ।। २९५.
With the best two fingers, at the joints in the places of the body, from the base of the thumb, golden in color, to the navel, shining like snow.
कुङ्कुमारुणमाकण्ठादाकेशान्तात् सितेतरं । ब्रह्माण्डव्यापिनं तार्क्षञ्चन्द्राख्यं नागभूषणम् ।। २९५.
From the neck to the end of the hair, saffron-red and then white, pervading the universe, Tārkṣa, called Chandra, adorned with serpents.
नीलोग्रनाशमात्मानं महापक्षं स्मरेद्बुधः । एवन्तार्क्षात्मनो वाक्यान्मन्त्रः स्यान्मन्त्रिणो विषे ।। २९५.
The wise should meditate on themselves as blue, fierce, destructive, with great wings; thus, from the words of Tārkṣa, the mantra for poison is established for the practitioner.
मुष्टिस्तार्क्षकरस्यान्तः स्थिताङ्गुष्ठविषापहा । तार्क्षं हस्तं समुद्यम्य तत्पञ्चाङ्गुलिचालनात् ।। २९५.
Within the fist of Tārkṣa's hand, the thumb removes poison; raising the Tārkṣa hand, by moving the five fingers, poison is dispelled.
कुर्य्याद्विषस्य स्तम्भादींस्तदुक्तमदवीषया । आकाशादेष भूवीजः पञ्चर्णाधिपतिर्म्मनुः ।। २९५.
One should perform the stambha and other acts against poison as described, without malice; from the ether arises the earth-seed, and Manu is the lord of the five sounds.
संस्तम्भयेतिविषतो भाषया स्तम्भयेद्विषम् । व्यत्यस्तभूषया वीजो मन्त्रोऽयं साधुसाधितः ।। २९५.
He should restrain poison by speech, and restrain it with the appropriate adornment; this seed-mantra, properly accomplished, is effective.
संप्लवः प्लावय यमः शब्दाद्यः संहरेद्विषं । दण्डमुत्थापयेदेष सुजप्ताम्भोऽभिषेकतः ।। २९५.
Let the flood carry away, let Yama remove by sound; let the staff be raised—this, when well recited, purifies with water by ablution.
सुजप्तशङ्खभेर्य्यादिनिस्वनश्रवणेन वा । संदहत्येव संयुक्तो भूतेजोव्यत्ययात् स्थितः ।। २९५.
Or, by hearing the sound of conch, kettle-drum, and the like, well recited and joined, it burns away, remaining due to the reversal of the elements.
. भूवायुव्यत्ययान्मन्त्रो विषं संक्रामयत्यसौ । अन्तस्थो निजवेश्मस्थो वीजाग्नीन्दुजलात्मभिः ।। २९५.
By the reversal of earth and air, this mantra transfers poison; whether within, in one's own dwelling, with seed, fire, Indra, and water as its essence.
एतत् कर्म्म नयेन्मन्त्री गरुड़ाकृतिविग्रहः । तार्क्षवरुणगेहस्थस्तज्जपान्नाशयेद्विषम् ।। २९५.
The officiant should perform this rite, taking the form and appearance of Garuda; dwelling in the house of Tārkṣya and Varuṇa, by reciting this, he destroys poison.
जानुदण्डीदमुदितं स्वधाश्रीवीजल्छितं । स्नानपानात्सर्व्वविषं ज्वरारोगापमृत्युजित् ।। २९५.
With knee and staff, this is uttered, sanctified by oblation, glory, and water; by bathing and drinking, all poison, fever, disease, and untimely death are overcome.
पक्षि पक्षि महापक्षि महापक्षि विधि स्वाहा । पक्षि पक्षि महापक्षि महापक्षि क्षि क्षि स्वाहा ।। २९५.
