द्वयोर्व्वा नाड़िकामन्त्रमन्त्रकं कुलिकोदयः । दुष्टः स कालः सर्व्वत्र सर्पदंशे विशेषतः ।। २९४.
Or in two, the mantra of the coconut or the mantra, the rise of Kulika; that time is inauspicious everywhere, especially in snake bites.
कृत्तिका भरणी स्वाती मूलं पूर्व्वत्रयाश्विनी । विशाखार्द्रा मघाश्लेषा श्रवणरोहिणो ।। २९४.
Krittika, Bharani, Swati, Mula, the first three, Ashwini; Vishakha, Ardra, Magha, Shlesha, Shravan, Rohini.
हस्ता मन्दकुजौ वारौ पञ्चमी चाष्टमी तिथिः । षष्ठी रिक्ता शिवा निन्द्या पञ्चमी च चतुर्द्दशी ।। २९४.
Hasta, Manda, Kuja, Vara, the fifth and eighth lunar days; the sixth, empty, auspicious, blameworthy, fifth and fourteenth.
सन्ध्याचतुष्टयं दुष्टं दग्धयोगाश्च राशयः । एकद्विबहवो दंशा दष्टविद्धञ्च खण्डितम् ।। २९४.
The four twilights are inauspicious, as are the burnt yogas and signs; single, double, or multiple bites, bitten and wounded, and fractured.
अदंशमवगुप्तं स्याद्दंशमेवं चतुर्विधम् । त्रयो द्व्येकक्षता दंशा वेदना रुधिरोल्वणा ।। २९४.
Unbitten and protected, bitten in four ways; three, two, or one wounded bites, with pain and profuse bleeding.
नक्तन्त्वेकाङ्घ्रिकूर्म्माबा दंशाश्च यमचोदिताः । दीहीपिपीलिकास्पर्शी कण्ठशोथरुजान्वितः ।। २९४.
At night, one-legged, turtle-bodied bites, and those prompted by Yama; touched by ants, with swelling and pain in the throat.
सतोदो ग्रन्थितो दंशः सविषो न्यस्तनिर्व्विषः । देवालये शून्यगृहे वल्मीकोद्यानकोटरे ।। २९४.
A bite that is moist or encrusted, poisonous or non-poisonous, found in a temple, an empty house, an anthill, or the hollow of a garden tree.
रथ्यासन्धौ श्मशाने च नद्याञ्च सिन्धुसङ्गमे । द्वीपे चतुष्पथे सौधे गृहेऽब्जे पर्व्वताग्रतः ।। २९४.
At a crossroads, on a highway, in a cremation ground, at the confluence of rivers, on an island, at a four-way junction, in a mansion, in a house, in a lotus, or on a mountain peak.
विलद्वारे जीर्णकूपे जीर्णवेश्मनि कुड्यके । शिग्रुश्लेष्मातकाक्षेषु जम्बू डुम्बरणेषु च ।। २९४.
At a swinging door, in a ruined well, in a dilapidated dwelling, on a wall, among moringa, śleṣmātaka, and āmalaka trees, and also among jambu and fig trees.
वटे च जीर्णप्राकारे खास्यहृत्कक्षजत्रुणि । तालौ शङ्खे गले मूद्र्ध्नि चिवुके नाभिपादयोः ।। २९४.
At a banyan tree, on a broken rampart, in the mouth, heart, armpit, collarbone, on the palm, conch, throat, head, cheek, navel, or feet.
दंशोऽशुभः शुभो दूनः पुष्पहस्तः सुवाक् सुधीः । लिङ्गवर्णंसमानश्च शुक्लवस्त्रोऽमलः शुचिः ।। २९४.
An inauspicious bite is harmful; an auspicious one is gentle, holding flowers, speaking well, wise, of the same gender and color as the sign, wearing white garments, spotless, and pure.
अपद्वारगतः शस्त्री प्रमादी भूगतेक्ष्णः । विवर्णवासाः पाशादिहस्तो गदगदवर्णभाक् ।। २९४.
One who comes through an improper entrance, is armed, careless, earthbound, sharp, wearing discolored clothes, holding a noose or weapon, and speaking with a faltering voice.
शुष्ककाष्ठाश्रितः खिन्नस्तिलाक्तककरांशुकः । आर्द्रवासाः कृष्णारक्तपुष्पयुक्तशिरोरुहः ।। २९४.
Dwelling among dry wood, weary, with hands stained by sesame oil, wearing damp clothes, and with hair adorned with black or red flowers.
कुचमर्दीं नखच्छेदी गुदस्पृक् पादलेखकः । केशमुञ्ची तृणच्छेदी दुष्टा दूतास्तथैकशः ।। २९४.
One who presses the breast, cuts nails, touches the anus, marks the feet, loosens the hair, cuts grass—such messengers are wicked, each in their own way.
इड़ान्या वा वहेद्द्वेधा यदि दूतस्य चात्मनः । आभ्यां द्वाभ्यां पुष्टयास्मान् विद्यास्त्रीपुन्नपुंसकान् ।। २९४.
If the messenger or oneself carries a staff split in two, by these two, the result is determined: female, male, or neuter.
दूतः स्पृशति यद्गात्रं तस्मिन् दंशमुदाहरेत् । दूताङ्घ्रिचलनं दुष्टमुत्थितिर्निश्चला शुभा ।। २९४.
Wherever the messenger touches the body, that is where the bite is declared; movement of the messenger's feet is inauspicious, while rising without movement is auspicious.
जीवपार्श्वे शुभो दूतो दुष्टोऽन्यत्र समागतः । जीवो गतागतैर्दुष्टः शुभो दूतनिवेदने ।। २९४.
A messenger on the right side of the living is auspicious; elsewhere, he is inauspicious. The living is inauspicious with comings and goings, but auspicious when reporting the messenger.
द्तस्य वाक् प्रदुष्टा सा पूर्व्वामजार्द्धनिन्दिता । विभक्तैस्तस्य वाक्यान्तैर्विषैर्निर्व्विषकालता ।। २९४.
The messenger's speech is corrupt if it is previously condemned or censured; by the division of his words, by poison or non-poison, and by the time.
आद्यैः स्वरैश्च काद्यैश्च वर्गैर्भिन्नलिपिर्द्विधा । स्वरजो वसुमान्वर्गी इतिक्षेपा च मातृका ।। २९४.
By the first vowels and by the initial consonants, the script is twofold; svara, rajas, earth, and groupings—thus the letters are classified.
वाताग्नीन्द्रजलात्मानो वर्गेषु च चतुष्टयम् । नपुंसकाः पञ्चमाः स्युः स्वराः शक्राम्बुयोनयः ।। २९४.
Wind, fire, Indra, and water are the four groups; the fifth, neuter, are the vowels, and those of Indra and water as their origin.
दुष्टौ दूतस्य वाक्पादौ वातग्नी मध्यमो हरिः । प्रशस्ता वारुणा वर्णा अतिदुष्टा नपुंसकाः ।। २९४.
When the messenger is inauspicious, his speech and feet are of wind and fire; the middle is Hari; the auspicious are of Varuṇa's color; the excessively inauspicious are neuter.
प्रस्थाने मङ्गलं वाक्यं गर्ज्जितं मेघहस्तिनोः । प्रदक्षिणं फले वृक्षे वामस्य च रुतं जितं ।। २९४.
At departure, auspicious is the sound of thunder or an elephant; circling to the right, fruit on a tree, and the cry on the left are victorious.
शुभा गीतादिशब्दाः स्युरीदृशं स्यादसिद्धये । अनर्थगीरथाक्रन्दो दक्षिणे विरुतं क्षुतम् ।। २९४.
Auspicious are sounds like singing and the like; such as these are for success. Inarticulate speech, loud cries, and sounds on the right, sneezing, are inauspicious.
वेश्या क्षुतो नृपः कन्या गौर्द्दन्ती मुरजध्वजौ । क्षीराज्यदधिङ्खाम्बु छत्रं भेरी फलं सुराः ।। २९४.
A courtesan, sneezing, a king, a maiden, a cow with two teeth, a drum and a banner, milk, clarified butter, curd, water, an umbrella, a kettle drum, fruit, and the gods.
तण्डुला हेम रूप्यञ्च सिद्धयेऽभिमुखा अमी । सकाष्ठः सानलः कारुर्म्मलिनाम्बरभावभृत् ।। २९४.
Rice grains, gold, and silver are favorable for success; the artisan, with wood and fire, wearing soiled garments, is also auspicious.
गलस्थटङ्को गोमायुगृध्रोलूककपर्द्दिकाः । तैलं कपालकार्पासा निषेधे भस्म नष्टये ।। २९४.
A mark on the throat, jackal, hyena, owl, and a skull-crowned woman; oil, skull, and cotton are forbidden, and ash leads to loss.
विषरोगाश्च सप्त स्युर्धातोर्धात्वन्तराप्तितः । विषदंशो ललाटं यात्यतो नेत्रं ततो मुखम् । आस्याच्च वचनीनाड्यौ धातून् प्राप्नोति हि क्रमात् ।। २९४.
There are seven types of poison-diseases, arising from the contact of one element with another; the poison first reaches the forehead, then the eyes, then the mouth, and from the mouth it gradually enters the speech-nerves and the elements.
अग्निरुवाच मन्त्रध्यानौषधैर्दष्टतिकित्सां प्रवदामि ते । ॐ नमो भगवते नीलकण्ठायेति । जपनाद्विषहानिः स्यादौषधं जीवरक्षणं ।। २९५.
Agni said: I will explain to you the treatment for a bite using mantra, meditation, and herbs. By reciting 'Om, obeisance to the blessed blue-throated one,' poison is destroyed, and the medicine preserves life.
साकज्यं सकृद्रसं पेयं द्विविधं विषमुच्यते । जङ्गमं सर्पमूषादि श्रृङ्ग्यादि स्थावरं विषं ।। २९५.
Poison is said to be of two kinds: that which is taken with food or drink, and that which is not. Animal poison is from snakes and scorpions; plant poison is from horned creatures and the like.
शान्तस्वरान्वितो ब्रह्मा लोहितं तारकं शिवः । वियतेर्नाममन्त्रोऽयं तार्क्षः शब्दमयः स्मृतः ।। २९५.
Brahma is associated with a calm tone, blood with a piercing tone, Shiva with a star-like tone; the mantra of the sky is called Tārkṣa, and is said to be composed of sound.
