शालूकचूर्णं भृङ्गाज्यं समध्वाज्यं शताब्दकृतं । कटुतुम्बीतैलनस्यं कर्षं शतद्वयाब्दवान् ।। २८६.
Śālūka powder with bhṛṅgarāja ghee and honey, prepared for a hundred years; nasal drops of kaṭutumbī oil, one karṣa, grant two hundred years of life.
त्रिफला पिप्पली शुण्ठी सेविता त्रिशताव्दकृत् । शतावर्य्याः पूर्वयोगः सहस्रायुर्बलातिकृत् ।। २८६.
Triphalā, long pepper, and dry ginger, when taken, grant three hundred years of life; the previous formula of śatāvarī gives a thousand years and surpassing strength.
चित्रकेन तथा पूर्वस्तथा शुण्ठीविडङ्गतः । लोहेन भृङ्गराजेन बलया निम्बपञ्चकैः ।। २८६.
With citraka, as before, and with dry ginger and viḍaṅga; with iron, bhṛṅgarāja, bala, and the five parts of nimb tree.
खदिरेण च निर्गुण्ड्या कण्टकार्य्याथ वासकात् । वर्षाभुवा तद्रसैर्वा भावितो वटिकाकृतः ।। २८६.
With khadira, nirguṇḍī, kaṇṭakāri, and vāsaka; or prepared with the juices of varṣābhu, made into pills.
चूर्णङ्घृतैर्वा मधुना गुडाद्यैर्वारिणा तथा । ॐ ह्रूं स इति मन्त्रेण मन्त्रितो योगराजकः ।। २८६.
With powders mixed with ghee, honey, jaggery, or water, the Yogarājaka should be consecrated using the mantra 'Om hrūṃ sa.'
मृतसञ्जीवनीकल्पो रोगमृत्युञ्जयो भवेत् । सुरासुरैश्च मुनिभिः सेविताः कल्पसागराः ।। २८६.
This acts as a reviver of the dead, conquering disease and death; these oceans of formulas have been practiced by gods, demons, and sages.
गजायुर्वेदं प्रोवाच पालकाप्योऽङ्गराजकं ।। २८६.
Pālakāpya taught the elephant Ayurveda and the Angarājaka.
पालकाप्य उवाच गजलक्षअम चिकित्साञ्च लोमपाद वदामि ते । दीर्घहस्ता महोच्छ्वासाः प्रशस्तास्ते सहिष्णवः ।। २८७.
Pālakāpya said: I will tell you, Lomapāda, about the characteristics and treatment of elephants; those with long trunks and deep breaths are esteemed and enduring.
विंशत्यष्टादशनखाः शीतकालमदाश्च ये । दक्षिणञ्चोन्नतन्दन्तं वृंहितं जलदोपमं ।। २८७.
Those with twenty or eighteen nails, who are active in cold seasons, whose right tusk is raised, and whose body is robust and cloud-like—
हस्तिन्यः पार्श्वगर्भिण्यो ये च मूढा मतङ्गजाः । वर्णं सत्वं बलं रूपं कान्तिः संहननञ्जवः ।। २८७.
Pregnant female elephants and those confused among elephants: their color, temperament, strength, form, radiance, build, and speed—
सप्तस्थितो गजश्वेदृक् सङ्ग्रामेरीञ्जयेत्स च । कुञ्जराः परमा शोभा शिविरस्य बलस्य च ।। २८७.
The elephant whose sweat appears in seven places will triumph in battle; elephants are the highest glory of the army and its strength.
आयत्तं कुञ्जरैश्चैव विजयं पृथिवीक्षितां । पाकलेषु च सर्वेषु कर्त्तव्यमनुवासनं ।। २८७.
Victory over the earth depends on elephants; in all preparations, proper care must be taken.
घृततैलपरीपाकं स्थानं वातविवर्जितं । स्कन्धेषु च क्रिया कार्य्या तथा पालकवन्नृपाः ।। २८७.
The place should be prepared with ghee and oil, free from wind; actions must be performed on their shoulders, as prescribed for keepers and kings.
गोमूत्रं पाण्डुरोगेषु रजनीभ्यां घृतन्द्विज । आनाहे तैलसिक्तस्य निषेकस्तस्य शस्यते ।। २८७.
Cow urine with turmeric is recommended for pale diseases, O twice-born; for bloating, oil should be sprinkled and applied.
लवणैः पञ्चभिर्म्मिश्रा प्रतिपानाय वारुणी । विडङ्गत्रिफलाव्योषसैन्धवैः कवलान् कृतान् ।। २८७.
For drinking, mix five kinds of salt with Varuṇī; for mouth cleansing, use balls made with viḍaṅga, triphalā, vyosha, and rock salt.
मृर्च्छासु भोजयेन्नागं क्षौद्रन्तोयञ्च पाययेत् । अब्यङ्ग शिरसः शुले नस्यञ्चैव प्रशस्यते ।। २८७.
In fainting, feed the elephant honey-water; massage and nasal therapy for head pain are also recommended.
नागानां स्नेहपुटकः पादरोगानुपक्रमेत् । पश्चात् कल्ककषायेण शोधनञ्च विधीयते ।। २८७.
For elephants, oil compresses treat foot diseases; afterwards, cleansing with paste and decoction is prescribed.
शिखितित्तिरिलावानां पिप्पलीमरिचान्वितैः । रसैः सम्भोज्येन्नागं वेपथुर्यस्य जायते ।। २८७.
For elephants afflicted with trembling, feed them juices of peacock, partridge, and lāvā birds mixed with long pepper and black pepper.
बालविल्वं तथा लोध्रं धातकी सितया सह । अतीसारविनाशाय पिण्डीं भुञ्जीत कुञ्जरः ।। २८७.
Young bael, lodhra, and dhātakī with sugar: for curing diarrhea, the elephant should eat a cake made from these.
नस्यं करग्रहे देयं घृतं लवणसंयुतम् । मागधीनागराजाजीयवागूर्मुस्तसाधिता ।। २८७.
For grasping in the trunk, administer ghee mixed with salt as nasal therapy; prepare gruel with Māgadhī, nāgarāja, ajī, vāgūr, and musta.
उत्कर्णके तु दातव्या वारहञ्च तथा रसम् । दशमूलकुलत्थाम्लकाकमाचीविपाचितम् ।। २८७.
For ear disease, give juice and water prepared with daśamūla, kulattha, sour kākamācī, and cooked vipācita.
तैलमूषणसंयुक्तं गलग्रहगदापहम् । अष्टभिर्लवणैः पिष्टैः प्रसन्नाः पाययेद्घृतम् ।। २८७.
Oil mixed with heat relieves throat diseases; ghee mixed with eight powdered salts should be given for clarity.
मूत्रभङ्गेऽथ वा वीजं क्कथितं त्रपूषस्य च । त्वग्दोषेषु पिवेन्निम्बं वृषं वा क्कथितं द्विपः ।। २८७.
For difficulty in urination or semen, seeds of the castor plant are prescribed; for skin disorders, one should take neem, and for virility, the elephant is said to be auspicious.
गवां मूत्रं विड़ङ्गानि कृमिकोष्ठेषु शस्यते । श्रृङ्गवेरकणाद्राक्षाशर्कराभिः श्रृतं पयः ।। २८७.
Cow urine and viranga are recommended for intestinal worms; milk boiled with ginger, grapes, and sugar is also beneficial.
क्षतक्षयकरं पानं तथा मांसरसः शुभः । मुद्गोदनं व्योषयुतमरुचौ तु प्रशस्यते ।। २८७.
Drinks that heal wounds and consumption, as well as meat broth, are favorable; rice cooked with mudga beans and spices is praised for loss of appetite.
त्रिवृद्व्योषाग्निदन्त्यर्कश्यामाक्षीरे भपिप्पली । एतैर्गुल्महरः स्नेहः कृतश्चैव तथापरः ।। २८७.
With trivrit, spices, agnidanti, arka, shyama, milk, and long pepper, an oil is prepared to cure abdominal tumors, as well as another similar preparation.
भेदनद्रावणाभ्यङ्गस्नेहपानानुवासनैः । सर्वानेव समुत्पन्नान् विद्रवान् समुपाहरेत् ।। २८७.
By means of purgatives, liquefying agents, massages, oil drinks, and enemas, all arising fluid disorders should be treated.
यष्टिकं मुद्गसूपेन शारदेन तथा पिवेत् । बालविल्वैस्तथा लेपः कटुरोगेषु शस्यते ।। २८७.
One should drink yastika with mudga soup in the autumn; a poultice of young bael fruits is recommended for sharp diseases.
विडङ्गेन्द्रयवौ हिङ्गु सरलं रजनीद्वयम् । पूर्वाह्णे पाययेत् पिण्डात् पिण्डान् सर्वशूलोपशान्तये ।। २८७.
Vidanga, indrayava, asafoetida, sarala, and both types of turmeric—these should be administered in the morning in boluses to relieve all types of colic pain.
प्रधानभोजने तेषां यष्टिकब्रीहिशालयः । मध्यमौ यवगोधूमौ यवगोधूमौ शेषा दन्तिनि चाधमाः ।। २८७.
For their main meal, they should have yastika, brīhi, and shali rice; for the middle meal, barley and wheat; for the rest, barley and wheat are inferior, as is dantini.
