देवापिर्व्वाह्लिकश्चैव सोमदत्तस्तु शान्तनोः । वाह्लिकात्सोमदत्तोऽभूद्भूरिर्भूरिस्रवाः शलः ।। २७८.
From Śāntanu came Devāpi, Vāhlika, and Somadatta; from Vāhlika came Somadatta, and from him, Bhūri, Bhūrisravas, and Śala.
गङ्गायां शान्तनोर्भीष्मः काल्यायां विचित्रवीर्य्यकः । कृष्णद्वैपायनश्चैव क्षेत्रे वैचित्रवीर्य्यके ।। २७८.
From Gaṅgā, Śāntanu had Bhīṣma; from Kālyā, he had Vicitravīrya; and Kṛṣṇadvaipāyana was born in the field of Vicitravīrya.
धृतराष्ट्रञ्च पाण्डुञ्च विदुरञ्चाप्यजीजनत् । पाण्डोर्युधिष्ठिरः कुन्त्यां भीमश्चैवार्जुनस्त्रयः ।। २७८.
He begot Dhṛtarāṣṭra, Pāṇḍu, and Vidura; from Pāṇḍu, Yudhiṣṭhira was born to Kuntī, and Bhīma and Arjuna, the three.
नकुलः सहदेवश्च पाण्डोर्म्माद्य्राञ्च दैवतः । अर्जुनस्य च सौभद्रः परिक्षिदभिमन्युतः ।। २७८.
Nakula and Sahadeva were born to Pāṇḍu from Mādry, by divine means; from Arjuna came Saubhadra, Parikṣit, son of Abhimanyu.
द्रौपदी पाण्डवानाञ्च प्रिया तस्यां युधिष्ठिरात् । प्रतिविन्ध्यो भीमसेनाच्छ्रुतकीर्त्तिर्द्धनञ्जयात् ।। २७८.
Draupadī, beloved of the Pāṇḍavas, bore Prativindhya to Yudhiṣṭhira, Śrutakīrti to Bhīmasena, and Dhanañjaya.
सहदेवाच्छ्रुतकर्म्मा शतानीकस्तु नाकुलिः । भीमसेनाद्धिड़िम्बायामन्य आसीद् घटोत्कचः ।। २७८.
From Sahadeva came Śrutakarman; Śatānīka was Nakula's son; from Bhīmasena and Hiṃbā came another, Ghaṭotkaca.
एते भूता भविष्याश्च नृपाः संख्या न विद्यते । गताः कालेन कालो हि हरिस्तं पूजयेद्द्विज ।। २७८.
These kings, past and future, are countless; all have passed with time, for Time is Hari—let the twice-born honor him.
होममग्नौसमुद्दिश्य कुरु सर्व्वप्रदं यतः ।। २७८.
Perform the offering to Agni, for it grants all things.
अग्निरुवाच आयुर्वेदं प्रवक्ष्यामि सुश्रुताय यमब्रवीत् । देवो धन्वन्तरिः सारं मृतसञ्जीवनीकरं ।। २७९.
Agni said: I will declare the Ayurveda, the essence that Dhanvantari, the god, spoke to Sushruta—restoring the dead to life.
सुश्रुत उवाच आयुर्वेदं मम ब्रूहि नराश्वेभरुगर्दनम् । सिद्धयोगान् सिद्धमन्त्रान् मृतसञ्जीवनीकरान् ।। २७९.
Sushruta said: Tell me the Ayurveda, which removes diseases of humans, horses, and cattle, along with perfected formulas, accomplished mantras, and those that restore the dead to life.
धन्वन्तरिरुवाच रक्षन् बलं हि ज्वरितं लङ्घितं भोजयेद्भिषक् । सविश्वं लाजमण्डन्तु तृड्ज्वरान्तं श्रृतं जलम् ।। २७९.
Dhanvantari said: To protect strength in fever, the physician should give light food to one who has fasted; with roasted barley and parched rice, and water boiled and cooled, thirst and fever will end.
मुस्तपर्पटकोशीरचन्दनोदीच्यनागरैः । षड़हे च व्यतिक्रान्ते तिक्तकं पाययेद्ध्रुवम् ।। २७९.
With musta, parpata, koshira, sandalwood, udichya, and nagara, and when the fever has passed its peak, one should certainly administer a bitter preparation.
स्नेहयेत्त्यक्तदोषन्तु ततस्तञ्च विरेचयेत् । जीर्णाः षष्टिकनीवाररक्तशालिप्रमोदकाः ।। २७९.
After oiling and removing the doshas, then purgation should be performed; well-cooked shashtika, nivara, red rice, and pramodaka are suitable.
तद्विधास्ते ज्वरेष्विष्टा यवानां विकृतिस्तथा । मुद्गा मसूराश्चणकाः कुलत्थास्च सकुष्ठकाः ।। २७९.
Such foods are prescribed in fevers, as well as preparations of barley; likewise, mung beans, lentils, chickpeas, horse gram, and those with kustha.
आटक्यो नारकाद्याश्च कर्क्कोटककटोल्वकम् । पटोलं सफलं निम्बं पर्पटं दाडिमं ज्वरे ।। २७९.
Atakya, naraka, karkotaka, katolvaka, patola with fruit, neem, parpata, and pomegranate are beneficial in fever.
अधोगे वमनं शस्तमूद्र्ध्वगे च विरेचनम् । रक्तपित्ते तथा पानं षडङ्गं शुण्ठिवर्ज्जितम् ।। २७९.
In downward-moving disorders, emesis is best; in upward-moving, purgation; for bleeding disorders, one should drink the six-ingredient decoction without dry ginger.
शक्रुगोधूमलाजाश्च यवशालिमसूरकाः । सकुष्ठचणका मुद्गा भक्ष्या गोधूमका हिताः ।। २७९.
Roasted barley, wheat, rice, lentils, and those with kustha and chickpeas, as well as mung beans, are wholesome; wheat preparations are beneficial.
साधिता घृतदुग्धाभ्यां क्षौद्रं वृषरसो मधु । अतीसारे पुराणानां शालीनां भक्षणं हितं ।। २७९.
Food prepared with ghee and milk, honey, bull's urine, and honey are beneficial; in chronic diarrhea, eating old rice is good.
अनभिष्यन्दि यच्चान्नं लोध्रवल्कलसंयुतम् । मारुतं वर्ज्जयेद् यत्नः कार्य्यो गुल्मेषु सर्वथा ।। २७९.११ वाट्यं क्षीरेण चाश्नीयाद्वास्तूकं घृतसाधितं । गोधूमशालयस्तिक्ता हिता जठरिणामथ ।। २७९.
Food that does not cause obstruction, combined with lodhra bark, is suitable; wind should be carefully avoided in all cases of abdominal tumors.
गोधूमशालयो मुद्गा ब्रह्मर्क्षखदिरोऽभया । पञ्चकोलञ्जाङ्गलाश्च निम्बधात्र्याः पटोलकाः ।। २७९.
Wheat, rice, mung beans, brahmi, khadira, haritaki, the five kinds of pepper, wild vegetables, neem, amalaki, and patola are recommended.
मातुलङ्गरसाजातिशुष्कमूलकसैन्धवाः । कुष्ठिनाञ्च तता शस्तं पानार्थे खदिरोदकं ।। २७९.
Juice of matulunga, jati, dried roots, and rock salt; for those with skin diseases, water infused with khadira is suitable for drinking.
मसूरमुद्गौ पेयार्थे भोज्या जीर्णाश्च शालयः । निम्बपर्पटकैः शाकैर्ज्जाङ्गलानां तथा रसः ।। २७९.
Lentils and mung beans are suitable as gruel, and well-cooked rice as food; with neem and parpata greens, and the juice of wild animals.
विडङ्गं मरिचं मुस्तं कुष्ठं लोध्रं सुवर्च्चिका । मनः शिला च वालेयः कुष्ठहा मूत्रपेषितः ।। २७९.
Vidanga, black pepper, musta, kustha, lodhra, suvarcika, manashila, and valerian—when pounded with urine, these destroy skin diseases.
अपूपकुष्ठकुल्माषयवाद्या मेहिनां हिताः । यवान्नविकृतिर्मुद्गा कुलत्था जीर्णशालयः ।। २७९.
Cakes, preparations of kustha, kulmasha, barley, and similar foods are beneficial for those with urinary disorders; barley, mung beans, horse gram, and well-cooked rice are suitable.
तिक्तरुक्षाणि शाकानि तिक्तानि हरितानि च । तैलानि तिलशिग्रुकविभीतकेङ्गुदानि च ।। २७९.
Bitter and dry vegetables, and bitter greens; oils of sesame, mustard, vibhitaka, and inguda are also suitable.
मुद्गाः सयवगोधूमा धान्यं वर्षस्थितञ्च यत् । जाङ्गलस्य रसः शस्तो भोजने राजयक्ष्मिणां ।। २७९.
Mung beans with barley and wheat, and grains stored for a year; the juice of wild animals is best for food in cases of consumption.
कौलत्थमौद्गको रास्नाशुष्कमूलकजाङ्गलैः । पूपैर्वा विस्किरैः सिद्धैर्दधिदाड़िमसाधितैः ।। २७९.
One should use horse gram, black gram, rasna, dried roots, wild meats, or with flowers, or with grains prepared and seasoned with curd and pomegranate.
मातुलङ्गरसक्षौद्रद्राक्षाव्योषादिसंस्कृतैः । यवगोधूमशाल्यन्नैर्भोज्येच्छ्वासकासिनं ।। २७९.
Food prepared with the juice of citron, honey, grapes, long pepper, and other such ingredients, as well as barley, wheat, and rice, should be given to one suffering from breathlessness and cough.
दशमूलवलारास्नाकुलत्थैरुपसाधिताः । पेयाः पूपरसाः क्काथाः श्वासहिक्कानिवारणा ।। २७९.
Gruels, soups, and decoctions prepared with ten roots, bala, rasna, and horse gram are remedies for breathlessness and hiccups.
शुष्कमूलककौलत्थमूलजाह्गलजै रसैः । यवगोधूमशाल्यन्नं जीर्णं सोशीरमाचरेत् ।। २७९.
Rice, wheat, and barley that have been digested should be taken with the juice of dried roots, horse gram, and wild roots, along with usira.
