महायोगी बलिस्तस्मादह्गो वङ्गश्च मुख्यकः । पुण्डुः कलिङ्गो बालोयो बलिर्योगी बलान्वितः ।। २७७.
The great yogi Bali was born from him; then Aṅga and Vaṅga, the chief; Puṇḍu, Kaliṅga, and Bāloya; Bali was a yogi endowed with strength.
अङ्गाद्दधिवाहनोऽभूत तस्माद्दिविरथो नृपः । दिविरथाद्धर्म्मरथस्तस्य चित्ररथः सुतः ।। २७७.
From Aṅga came Dadhivāhana; from him, King Diviratha; from Diviratha, Dharmaratha, whose son was Citraratha.
चित्ररथात्सत्यरथो लोमपादश्च तत्सुतः । लोमपादाच्चतुरङ्गः पृथुलाक्षश्च तत्सुतः ।। २७७.
From Citraratha came Satyaratha, and Lomapāda, his son; from Lomapāda came Caturaṅga, and Pṛthulākṣa, his son.
पृथुलाक्षाच्च चम्पोऽभूच्चम्पाद्धर्य्यङ्गकोऽभवत् । हर्य्यङ्गाच्च भद्ररथो बृहत्कर्म्मा च तत्सुतः ।। २७७.
From Pṛthulākṣa came Campo; from Campo, Haryyaṅgaka; from Haryyaṅga came Bhadraratha, and Bṛhatkarmā, his son.
तस्मादभूद्वॄहद्भानुर्वृहद्भानोर्बृहात्मवान् । तस्माज्जयद्रथो ह्यासीज्जयद्रथाद्वृहद्रथः ।। २७७.
From him was born Vṛhadbhānu; from Vṛhadbhānu, Vṛhātmavān; from him, Jayadratha arose, and from Jayadratha, Vṛhadratha.
वृहद्रथाद्विश्वजिच्च कर्णो विश्वजितोऽभवत् । कर्णस्य वृषसेनस्तु पृथुसेनस्तदात्मजः । एतेऽङ्गवंशजा भूपाः पूरोर्वंशं निबोध मे ।। २७७.
From Vṛhadratha came Viśvajit, and Karṇa was born of Viśvajit; Karṇa's son was Vṛṣasena, and Pṛthusena, his own son. These are the kings born in the Aṅga lineage; now hear of the lineage of Puru from me.
अग्निरुवाच पुरोर्जनमेजयोऽभूत्प्राचीन्नन्तस्तु तत्सुतः । प्राचीन्नन्तान्मनस्युस्तु तस्माद्वीतमयो तृपः ।। २७८.
Agni said: Janamejaya was born of Puru; Prācīnnanta was his son; from Prācīnnanta came Manasyu, and from him, Vītamaya, the noble.
शुन्धुर्वीतमयाच्चाऽभूच्छुन्धोर्बहुविधः सुतः । बहुविधाच्च संयातिरहोवादी च तत्सुतः ।। २७८.
Śundhu was born from Vītamaya; Śundhu's son was Bahuvidha; from Bahuvidha came Saṃyāti, and Rahovādī, his son.
तस्य पुत्रोऽथ भद्राश्वो भद्राश्वस्य दशात्मजाः । ऋचेयुश्च कृषेयुश्च सन्नतेयुस्तथात्मजः ।। २७८.
His son was Bhadrāśva; Bhadrāśva had ten sons: Ṛceyu, Kṛṣeyu, Sannateyu, and his own son.
घृतेयुश्च चितेयुश्च स्थण्डिलेयुश्च सत्तमः । धर्म्मोयुः सन्नतेयुश्चः कृचेयुर्म्मतिनारकः ।। २७८.
Ghṛteyu, Citeyu, Sthaṇḍileyu, the excellent one; Dharmoyu, Sannateyu, Kṛceyu, and Matināraka.
तंसुरोघः प्रतिरथः पुरस्तो मतिनारजाः । आसीत्प्रतिरथात्कण्वः कण्वान्मेधातिथिस्त्वभूत् ।। २७८.
Taṃsurogha, Pratiratha, Purasta, and Matināraka were born; from Pratiratha came Kaṇva, and from Kaṇva, Medhātithi arose.
तंसुरोघाच्च चत्वारो दुष्मन्तोऽथ प्रवीरकः । सुमन्तश्चानयो वीरो दुष्मन्ताद्भरतोऽभवत् ।। २७८.
From Taṃsurogha came four: Duṣmanta, then Pravīraka; Sumanta, Anayo, and Vīra; from Duṣmanta, Bharata was born.
शकुन्तलायान्तु बली यस्य नाम्ना तु भारताः । सुतेषु मातृकोपेन नष्टेषु भरतस्य च ।। २७८.
The mighty one among the Bhāratas, by whose name they are known, was the son of Śakuntalā; due to his mother's anger, the sons of Bharata were lost.
ततो मरुद्भिरानीय पुत्रः स तु बृहस्पतेः । संक्रामितो भरद्वाजः क्रतुभिर्व्वितथोऽभवत् ।। २७८.
Then, brought by the Maruts, a son of Bṛhaspati was transferred; Bharadvāja became Vitatha through sacrifices.
स चापि वितथः पुत्रान् जनयामास पञ्च वै । सुहोत्रं च सुहोतारं गयं गर्भं तथैव च ।। २७८.
And indeed, Vitatha begot five sons: Suhotra, Suhotāra, Gaya, Garbha, and likewise Kapila.
कपिलश्च महात्मानं सुकेतुञ्च सुतद्वयम् । कौशिकञ्च गृत्सपतिं तथा गृत्सपतेः सुताः ।। २७८.
Kapila, the great-souled one, and Suketu—these two sons; also Kauśika and Gṛtsapati, thus are the sons of Gṛtsapati.
ब्राह्मणाः क्षत्रिया वैश्याः काशे दीर्घतमाः सुताः । ततो धन्वन्तरिश्चासीत्तत्सुतोऽभूच्च केतुमान् ।। २७८.
Brāhmaṇas, Kṣatriyas, and Vaiśyas—these are the long-lived sons in Kāśī; from them was Dhanvantari, and his son was Ketumān.
केतुमतो हेमरथो दिवोदास इतिश्रुतः । प्रतर्दनो दिवोदासाद्भर्गवत्सौ प्रतर्दनात् ।। २७८.
Of Ketumat was Hemaratha, and Divodāsa, as is known; from Divodāsa was Pratardana, and from Pratardana, Bhargavatsa.
वत्सादनर्क्क आसीच्च अनर्क्कात् क्षेमकोऽभवत् । क्षेमकाद्वर्षकेतुश्च वर्षकेतोर्विभुः स्मृतः ।। २७८.
From Vatsa came Anarka, and from Anarka was Kṣemaka; from Kṣemaka, Varṣaketu, and from Varṣaketu, Vibhu is remembered.
विभोरानर्त्तः पुत्रोऽभूद्धिभोश्य सुकुमारकः । सुकुमारात्सत्यकेतुर्वत्सभूमिस्तु वत्सकात् ।। २७८.
Vibhu's son was Anarta, and from Vibhu also came Sukumāraka; from Sukumāra, Satyaketu, and from Vatsaka, Vatsabhūmi.
सुहोत्रस्य बृहत्पुत्रो बृहतस्तनयास्त्रयः । अजमीढो द्विमीढश्च पुरुमीढश्च वीर्य्यवान् ।। २७८.
Suhotra's son was Bṛhat, and Bṛhat had three sons: Ajamīḍha, Dvimīḍha, and the mighty Purumīḍha.
अजमीढस्य केशिन्यां जज्ञे जह्नुः प्रतापवान् । जह्नोरभूदजकाश्वौ बलाकाश्वस्तदात्मजः ।। २७८.
From Ajamīḍha and Keśinī was born the illustrious Jahnu; from Jahnu came Ajakāśva and Balākāśva, and Balākāśva's son.
बलाकाश्वस्य कुशिकः कुशिकात् गाधिरिन्द्रकः । गाधेः सत्यवती कन्या विश्वामित्रः सुतोत्तमः ।। २७८.
From Balākāśva was Kuśika, from Kuśika, Gādhi, called Indraka; Gādhi's daughter was Satyavatī, and Viśvāmitra was his excellent son.
देवरातः कतिमुखा विश्वामित्रस्य ते सुताः । शुनः शेफाऽष्टकश्चान्यो ह्यजमीढात् सुतोऽभवत् ।। २७८.
Devarāta and Katimukha were sons of Viśvāmitra; Śunaḥśepha and Aṣṭaka were others, and another son from Ajamīḍha.
नीलिन्यां शान्तिरपरः पुरुजातिः सुशान्तितः । पुरुजातेस्तु वाह्याश्वो वाह्याशवात् पञ्च पार्थिवाः ।। २७८.
From Nīlinī was Śānti, and another, Purujāti, from Suśānti; from Purujāti was Vāhyāśva, and from Vāhyāśva, five kings.
मुकुलः सृञ्जयश्यैव राजा वृहदिषुस्तथा । यवीनरश्च कृमिलः पाञ्चाला इति विश्रुताः ।। २७८.
Mukula, Sṛñjaya, the king Vṛhadiṣu, Yavīnara, and Kṛmila—these are renowned as the Pāñcālas.
मुकुलस्य तु मौकुल्याः क्षेत्रोपेता द्विजातयः । चञ्चाश्वो मुकुलाज्जज्ञे चञ्चाश्वान्मिथुनं ह्यभूत् ।। २७८.
From Mukula came the Maukulyas, twice-born by field-born descent; from Mukula was born Cañcāśva, and from Cañcāśva, the pair.
दिवोदासो ह्यहल्या च अल्यायां शरद्वतात् । शतानन्दः शतानन्दात् सत्यधृन्मिथुनन्ततः ।। २७८.
Divodāsa and Ahalyā, and from Ahalyā, Śaradvat; from Śatānanda, Satyadhṛti, and from Mithuna, the lineage continued.
कृपः कृपी दिवोदासान्मैत्रेयः सोमपस्ततः । सृञ्चयात् पञ्चधनुषः सोमदत्तश्य तत्सुतः ।। २७८.
Kṛpa and Kṛpī from Divodāsa, and from Maitreya, Somapas; from Sṛñjaya, Pañcadhanu, and from Somadatta, his son.
सहदेवः सोमदत्तात् सहदेवात्तु सोमकः । आसीच्च सोमकाज्जन्तुर्ज्जन्तोश्च पृषतः सुतः ।। २७८.
From Somadatta was Sahadeva, from Sahadeva, Somaka; from Somaka was Jantu, and from Jantu, Pṛṣata's son.
