तारकामयसङ्ग्रामे तदा देवाश्च पालिताः । निवार्य्येन्द्रं गुरून् देवान् दानवान्सोमवंशकृत् ।। २७६.
In the battle for Tārakāmaya, the gods were protected; Indra was restrained, and the demons, creators of the Soma lineage, were checked by their teachers.
विश्वामित्रवशिष्ठात्रिकवयश्च रणे सुरान् । अपालयन्ते निर्व्यार्य्य रगद्वेषादिदानवान् ।। २७६.
Viśvāmitra, Vasiṣṭha, and the three sages protected the gods in battle, overcoming the demons who were hostile and full of hatred.
पृथ्वीरथे ब्रह्मयन्तुरीशस्य शरणो हरिः । ददाह त्रिपुरं देवपालको दैत्यमर्दनः ।। २७६.
Hari, the refuge of Brahma and the lord, burned Tripura, the city, acting as the protector of the gods and destroyer of demons.
गौरीं जिहीर्षुणा रुद्रमन्धकेनार्दितं हरिः । अनुरक्तश्च रेवत्यां चक्रेचान्धासुरार्दनम् ।। २७६.
Hari, devoted to Revati, struck down the blind demon who had afflicted Rudra, who wished to seize Gaurī.
वृत्रे देवहरं विष्णुर्देवधर्म्मानपालयत् ।। २७६.
Viṣṇu, upholding the law of the gods, protected them by slaying Vṛtra, the destroyer of the gods.
शाल्वादीन् दानवान् जित्वा हरिः परशुरामकः । अपालयत् सुरादींश्च दुष्टक्षत्रं निहत्य च ।। २७६.
Hari, in the form of Paraśurāma, defeated Śālva and other demons, protected the gods and their leaders, and destroyed the wicked rulers.
हालाहलं विषं दैत्यं निराकृत्य महेश्वरात् । भयं निर्णाशयामास देवानां मधुसूदनः ।। २७६.
Having removed the poison Hālāhala and the demon from Maheśvara, Madhusūdana dispelled the fear of the gods.
हालाहलं विषं यश्च दैत्यः कोलाहलो जितः । पालिताश्च सुराः सर्व्वे विष्णुना धम्मपालनात् ।। २७६.
The demon Kolāhala and the poison Hālāhala were conquered, and all the gods were protected by Viṣṇu through the preservation of righteousness.
देवासुरे रणे यश्च दैत्यः कोलाहलो जितः । पालिताश्च सुराः सर्व्वे विष्णुना धर्म्मपालनात् ।। २७६.
In the battle between gods and demons, Kolāhala was defeated, and all the gods were protected by Viṣṇu through the preservation of righteousness.
राजानो राजपुत्राश्च मुनयो देवता हरिः । यदुक्तं यच्छ नैवोक्तमवतारा हरेरिमे ।। २७६.
Kings, princes, sages, and gods—whatever has been said or left unsaid, these are the incarnations of Hari.
अग्निरुवाच तुर्व्वसोश्च सुतो वर्गो गोभानुस्तस्य चात्मजः । गोभानोरासीत् त्रैशानिस्त्रैशानेस्तु करन्धमः ।। २७७.
Agni said: Turvasu's son was Varga; Gobhānu was his son, and Gobhānu's son was Traiśāni; Traiśāni's son was Karandhama.
करन्धमान्मरुत्तोभूऽद्दुष्मन्तस्तस्य चात्मजः । दुष्मन्तस्य वरूथोऽभूद्गाण्डीरस्तु वरूथतः ।। २७७.
Karandhama's son was Marutta; Duṣmanta was his son; Duṣmanta's son was Varūtha, and Varūtha's son was Gāṇḍīra.
गाण्डीराच्चैव गान्धारः पञ्च जानपदास्ततः । गान्धाराः केरलाश्चोलाः पाण्ड्याः कोला महाबलाः ।। २७७.
From Gāṇḍīra came Gāndhāra, and from him five peoples arose: Gāndhāras, Keralas, Colas, Pāṇḍyas, and Kolas, all mighty.
द्रुह्यस्तु वभ्रुसेतुश्च वभ्रुसेतोः पुरोवसुः । ततो गान्धारा गान्धारैर्घर्म्मो घर्म्माद् घृतोऽभवत् ।। २७७.
Druhyu and Vabhrusetu; Vabhrusetu's son was Purovasu; then came Gāndhāras, and from them Gharma, from Gharma came Ghṛta.
घृतात्तु विदुषस्तस्मात् प्रचेतास्तस्य वै शतम् । आनद्रश्च सभानरश्चाक्षुपः परमेषुकः ।। २७७.
From the clarified butter, the wise one was born; therefore, a hundred prudent sons came from him: Ānadrā, Sabhānara, Ākṣupa, and Parameṣuka.
सभानरात् कालानलः कालानलजसृञ्जयः । पुरञ्जयः सृञ्जयस्य तत्पुत्रो जनमेजयः ।। २७७.
From Sabhānara came Kālānala, then Kālānalaja Sṛñjaya; Purañjaya was born of Sṛñjaya, and his son was Janamejaya.
तत्पुत्रस्तु महाशालस्तुत्पुत्रोऽभून्महामनाः । तस्मादुशीनरो ब्रह्मन्नृगायान्तु तृगस्ततः ।। २७७.
His son was Mahāśāla, whose son was Mahāmanā; from him, O Brahman, came Uśīnara, then Ṛgāyantu, and after him Tṛga.
नरायान्तु नरश्चासीत् कृमिस्तु कृमितः सुतः । दशायां सुब्रतो जज्ञे दृशद्वत्यां शिविस्तथा ।। २७७.
From Narāyantu came Nara; Kṛmi was the son of Kṛmi; in Daśā, Subrata was born, and in Dṛśadvati, Śivi likewise.
शिवेः पुत्त्रास्तु चत्वारः पृथुदर्भश्च वीरकः । कैकेयो भद्रकस्तेषां नाम्ना जनपदाः शुभाः ।। २७७.
Śivi had four sons: Pṛthudarbha, Vīraka, Kaikeya, and Bhadraka; their names became auspicious peoples.
तितिक्षुरुशीनरजस्तितिक्षोस्च रुषद्रयः । रुषद्रथादभूत्पैलः पैलाच्च सुतपाः सुतः ।। २७७.
Titikṣu was born of Uśīnaraja, and Ruṣadraya from Titikṣu; from Ruṣadratha came Paila, and from Paila, his son Sutapā.
महायोगी बलिस्तस्मादह्गो वङ्गश्च मुख्यकः । पुण्डुः कलिङ्गो बालोयो बलिर्योगी बलान्वितः ।। २७७.
The great yogi Bali was born from him; then Aṅga and Vaṅga, the chief; Puṇḍu, Kaliṅga, and Bāloya; Bali was a yogi endowed with strength.
अङ्गाद्दधिवाहनोऽभूत तस्माद्दिविरथो नृपः । दिविरथाद्धर्म्मरथस्तस्य चित्ररथः सुतः ।। २७७.
From Aṅga came Dadhivāhana; from him, King Diviratha; from Diviratha, Dharmaratha, whose son was Citraratha.
चित्ररथात्सत्यरथो लोमपादश्च तत्सुतः । लोमपादाच्चतुरङ्गः पृथुलाक्षश्च तत्सुतः ।। २७७.
From Citraratha came Satyaratha, and Lomapāda, his son; from Lomapāda came Caturaṅga, and Pṛthulākṣa, his son.
पृथुलाक्षाच्च चम्पोऽभूच्चम्पाद्धर्य्यङ्गकोऽभवत् । हर्य्यङ्गाच्च भद्ररथो बृहत्कर्म्मा च तत्सुतः ।। २७७.
From Pṛthulākṣa came Campo; from Campo, Haryyaṅgaka; from Haryyaṅga came Bhadraratha, and Bṛhatkarmā, his son.
तस्मादभूद्वॄहद्भानुर्वृहद्भानोर्बृहात्मवान् । तस्माज्जयद्रथो ह्यासीज्जयद्रथाद्वृहद्रथः ।। २७७.
From him was born Vṛhadbhānu; from Vṛhadbhānu, Vṛhātmavān; from him, Jayadratha arose, and from Jayadratha, Vṛhadratha.
वृहद्रथाद्विश्वजिच्च कर्णो विश्वजितोऽभवत् । कर्णस्य वृषसेनस्तु पृथुसेनस्तदात्मजः । एतेऽङ्गवंशजा भूपाः पूरोर्वंशं निबोध मे ।। २७७.
From Vṛhadratha came Viśvajit, and Karṇa was born of Viśvajit; Karṇa's son was Vṛṣasena, and Pṛthusena, his own son. These are the kings born in the Aṅga lineage; now hear of the lineage of Puru from me.
अग्निरुवाच पुरोर्जनमेजयोऽभूत्प्राचीन्नन्तस्तु तत्सुतः । प्राचीन्नन्तान्मनस्युस्तु तस्माद्वीतमयो तृपः ।। २७८.
Agni said: Janamejaya was born of Puru; Prācīnnanta was his son; from Prācīnnanta came Manasyu, and from him, Vītamaya, the noble.
शुन्धुर्वीतमयाच्चाऽभूच्छुन्धोर्बहुविधः सुतः । बहुविधाच्च संयातिरहोवादी च तत्सुतः ।। २७८.
Śundhu was born from Vītamaya; Śundhu's son was Bahuvidha; from Bahuvidha came Saṃyāti, and Rahovādī, his son.
तस्य पुत्रोऽथ भद्राश्वो भद्राश्वस्य दशात्मजाः । ऋचेयुश्च कृषेयुश्च सन्नतेयुस्तथात्मजः ।। २७८.
His son was Bhadrāśva; Bhadrāśva had ten sons: Ṛceyu, Kṛṣeyu, Sannateyu, and his own son.
घृतेयुश्च चितेयुश्च स्थण्डिलेयुश्च सत्तमः । धर्म्मोयुः सन्नतेयुश्चः कृचेयुर्म्मतिनारकः ।। २७८.
Ghṛteyu, Citeyu, Sthaṇḍileyu, the excellent one; Dharmoyu, Sannateyu, Kṛceyu, and Matināraka.
