तन्मात्रे दक्षिणाग्रेषु कुशेष्वेवं यज्ते पितृन् । इन्द्रवारुणवायव्या याम्या वा नैर्ऋताश्च ये ।। २६४.
In this way, he should offer to the ancestors on blades of sacred grass placed at the southern end, for those who are of Indra, Varuna, Vayu, Yama, or Nairriti.
ते काकाः प्रतिगृह्णन्तु इमं पिण्डं मयोद्धृतम् । काकपिण्डन्तु मन्त्रेण शुनः पिण्डं प्रदापयेत् ।। २६४.
Let the crows accept this rice-ball which I have offered; with the mantra for the crow's rice-ball, he should also give a rice-ball for the dogs.
विवस्वतः कुले जातौ द्वौ श्यावशबलौ शुनौ । तेषां पिण्डं प्रदास्यामि पथि रक्षन्तु मे सदा ।। २६४.
In the family of Vivasvat are born two dogs, one dark and one spotted; to them I shall offer a rice-ball—may they always protect me on the path.
प्रतिगृह्लन्तु मे ग्रासं गावस्त्रैलोक्यमातरः ।। २६४.
May the cows, mothers of the three worlds, accept this food from me.
गोग्रासञ्च स्वस्त्ययनं कृत्वा बिक्षां प्रदापयेत् । अतिथीन्दीनान् पूजयित्वा गृही भुञ्जीत च स्वयं ।। २६४.
After making an offering of food to the cows for auspiciousness, he should give alms; having honored guests and the poor, the householder may then eat himself.
अग्निरुवाच सर्वार्थसाधनं स्नानं वक्ष्ये शान्तिकरं श्रृणु । स्नापयेच्य सरित्तीरे ग्रहान् विष्णु विचक्षणः ।। २६५.
Agni said: I shall explain the bath that accomplishes all aims and brings peace—listen. The wise should bathe the planets on the riverbank, as well as Vishnu.
देवालये ज्वरार्त्त्यादौ विनायकग्रहार्द्दिते । विद्यार्थिनो ह्रदे गेहे जयकामस्य तीर्थके ।। २६५.
In a temple, when afflicted by fever or disease, or troubled by Vinayaka or planetary influences; for a student, in a pond at home; for one desiring victory, at a sacred ford.
पद्मिन्यां स्नापयेन्नारीं गर्भो यस्याः स्नवेत्तथा । अशोकसन्निधौ स्नायाज्जातो यस्या विनश्यति ।। २६५.
A woman whose womb is to be cleansed should be bathed in a lotus pond; in the presence of an Ashoka tree, one whose child has died should bathe.
पुष्पार्थिनाञ्च पुष्पाढ्ये पुत्रार्थिनाञ्च सागरे । गृहसौभाग्यकामानां सर्वेषां विष्णुसन्निधौ ।। २६५.
Those desiring flowers should bathe where flowers abound; those desiring sons, in the ocean; and all who seek household prosperity, in the presence of Vishnu.
वैष्णवे रेवतीपुष्ये सर्वेषां स्नानमुत्तमं । स्नानकामस्य सप्ताहम्पूर्वमुत्सादनं स्मृतं ।। २६५.
For all, the best bath is on the days of Revati or Pushya in the month of Vaishakha; for one desiring a bath, purification for seven days beforehand is prescribed.
पुनर्न्नवां रोचनाञ्च शताङ्गं गुरुणी त्वचं । मधूकं रजनी द्वे च तगरन्नागकेशरम् ।। २६५.
Punarnava, rochana, shatānga, guruni bark, madhuka, two kinds of turmeric, tagara, nāga-keśara—these should be used.
अम्बरीञ्चैव मञ्जिष्ठां मांसीयासकमर्दनैः । प्रियङ्गुसर्षपं कुष्ठम्बलाम्ब्राह्मीञ्च कुङ्कुमं ।। २६५.
Also amber, manjishta, mamsi, yāsaka, priyaṅgu, mustard, kushtha, ambalā, brahmi, and saffron.
पञ्चगव्यं शक्तुमिश्रं उद्वर्त्त्य स्नानमाचरेत् । मण्डले कर्णिकायाञ्च विष्णुं ब्राह्मणमर्च्चयेत् ।। २६५.
One should anoint the body with a mixture of the five products of the cow and flour, then bathe; in the center of the bathing area, worship Vishnu and a Brahmin.
स्नानमण्डलकान् दिक्षु कुर्य्याच्चैव वादिक्षु च । विष्णुब्रह्मेशशक्रादींस्तदस्त्राण्यर्घ्य होमयेत् ।। २६५.
He should make bathing circles in the directions and intermediate directions, and offer arghya and oblations to Vishnu, Brahma, Shiva, Indra, and others as their weapons.
एकैकस्य त्वष्टशतं समिधस्तु तिलान् घृतं । भद्रः सुभद्रः सिद्धार्थः कलसाः पुष्टिवर्द्धनाः ।। २६५.
For each, one hundred and eight sticks of sacred wood, sesame seeds, and ghee should be used; Bhadra, Subhadra, Siddhartha, Kalasha, and those that increase prosperity.
अमोघश्चित्रबानुश्च पर्ज्जन्योऽथ सुदर्शनः । स्थापयेत्तु घटानेतान् साश्विरुद्रमरुद्गणान् ।। २६५.
Amogha, Citrabanu, Parjanya, and Sudarshana—he should establish these pots, along with Ashvins, Rudra, and the Maruts.
विश्वे देवास्तथा दैत्या वसवो मुनयस्तथा । आवेशयन्तु सुप्रीतास्तथान्या अपि देवताः ।। २६५.
May all the gods, as well as the demons, Vasus, and sages, enter these with joy, and may other deities also do so.
ओषधीर्न्निक्षिपेत् कुम्भे जयन्तीं विजयां जयां । शतावरीं शतपुष्पां विष्णुक्रान्तापराजिताम् ।। २६५.
He should place in the pot the herbs Jayanti, Vijaya, Jaya, Shatavari, Shatapuspa, Vishnukranta, and Aparajita.
उयोतिष्मतीमतिबलाञ्चन्दनोशीरकेशरं । कस्तूरिकाञ्च कर्पूरं बालकं पत्रकं त्वचं ।। २६५.
With luminous, potent sandalwood, usīra, saffron, musk, camphor, bālaka, patra, and bark.
जातीफलं लवङ्गञ्च मृत्तिकां पञअचगव्यकं । भद्रपीठे स्थितं साध्यं स्नापयेयुर्द्विजा बलात् ।। २६५.
Jāti fruit, clove, clay, and five products of the cow; placed on an auspicious seat, these are to be prepared, and the twice-born should bathe the person with force.
राजाभिषेकमन्त्रोक्तदेवानां होमकाः पृथक् । पूर्णाहुतिन्ततो दत्वा गुरवे दक्षिणां ददेत् ।। २६५.
Separate offerings are made to the gods mentioned in the royal consecration mantras; after giving the full oblation, one should present the fee to the teacher.
इन्द्रोऽभिषिक्तो गुरुणा पुरा दैत्यान् जघान् ह । लिक्पालस्नानङ्कथितं संग्रामादौ जयादिकं ।। २६५.
Indra was consecrated by the teacher in ancient times and slew the demons; the bathing of the guardians is described, bringing victory at the start of battle.
पुष्कर उवाच विनायकोपसृष्टानां स्नानं सर्वकरं वदे । विनायकः कर्म्मविघ्नसिद्ध्यर्थं विनियोजितः ।। २६६.
Puṣkara said: I will explain the universal bathing for those afflicted by Vināyaka; Vināyaka is appointed for the accomplishment of actions and removal of obstacles.
गणानामाधिपत्ये च केशवेशपितामहैः । स्वप्नेवगाहतेऽत्यर्थं जलं मुण्डांश्च पश्यति ।। २६६.
As lord of the groups, by Keśava and Pitāmaha, Vināyaka appears in dreams, causing one to see water and shaven heads excessively.
विनायकोपसृष्टस्तु क्रव्यादानधिरोहति । व्रजमानस्तथात्मानं मन्यतेऽनुगतम्परैः ।। २६६.
When afflicted by Vināyaka, one is seized by flesh-eating spirits; as one goes, one imagines oneself followed by others.
विमना विफलारम्भः संसीदत्यनिमित्ततः । कन्या वरं न चाप्नोति च चापत्यं वराङ्गना ।। २६६.
Disheartened, with fruitless undertakings, one fails without cause; a maiden does not obtain a husband, nor does a beautiful woman bear children.
आचार्य्यत्वं श्रोत्रियश्च न शिष्योऽध्ययनं लबेत् । धनी न लाभमाप्नोति न कृषिञ्च कृषीबलः ।। २६६.
One does not attain the status of teacher or Vedic scholar, nor does the student gain learning; the wealthy do not gain profit, nor do farmers succeed in agriculture.
राजा राज्यं न चाप्नोति स्नपननतस्य कारयेत् । हस्तपुष्याश्वयुक्सौम्ये वैष्णवे भद्रपीठके ।। २६६.
A king does not obtain his kingdom; for such a one, a bathing ritual should be performed on an auspicious seat, during the conjunction of Hasta, Puṣya, Aśvayuk, and Saumya, in the Vaiṣṇava month.
गौरसर्षपकल्केन साज्येनोत्सादितस्य च । सर्वौषधैः सर्वगन्धैः प्रलिप्तशिरसस्तथा ।। २६६.
With a paste of cow's ghee and mustard, and after anointing with all herbs and fragrances, the head is also smeared.
चतुर्भिः कलसैः स्नानन्तेषु सर्वौषधीः क्षिपेत् । अश्वस्थानाद्गजस्थानाद्वल्मीकात् सङ्गमाद्ध्रदात् ।। २६६.
After bathing, all herbs are placed in four pots; from the place of horses, elephants, anthills, confluences, and ponds.
