सा तङ्कामयते राम नात्र कार्य्या विचारणा । रथन्तरं वामदेव्यं ब्रह्मवर्च्चसवर्द्धनं ।। २६१.
She desires him, O Rama; there is no doubt about this. The Rathantara and Vamadeva chants increase the brilliance of Brahman.
प्राशयेद्वालकं नित्यं वचाचूर्णं घृतप्लुतं । इन्द्रमिद्गाथिनं जप्त्वा भवेच्छ्रुतिधरस्त्वसौ ।। २६१.
One should daily give a boy speech-powder mixed with ghee; after reciting the Indramid Gathin chant, he will become one who retains what he hears.
हुत्वा रथन्तरञ्जप्त्वा पुत्रमाप्नोत्यसंशयं । मयि श्रीरिति मन्त्रोयं जप्तव्यः श्रीविवर्द्धनः ।। २६१.
Having offered the Rathantara and recited it, one surely obtains a son; the mantra 'Mayi Shri' should be recited, for it increases prosperity.
वैरूप्यस्याष्टकं नित्यं प्रयुञ्जानः श्रियं लभेत् । सप्ताष्टकं प्रयुञ्चानः सर्व्वान् कामानवाप्नुयात् ।। २६१.
By regularly performing the eightfold rite for deformity, one attains prosperity; by performing the seven or eightfold rite, one attains all desires.
गव्येषुणेति यो नित्यं सायं प्रातरतन्त्रितः । उपस्थानं गवां कुर्य्यात्तस्य स्युस्ताः सदा गृहे ।। २६१.
Whoever, with discipline, daily at evening and morning, recites 'Gavyeṣuṇeti' and attends to the cows, will always have them in his house.
घृताक्तन्तु यवद्रोणं वात आवातु भेषजं । अनेन हुत्वा विधिवत् सर्व्वां मायां व्यपोहति ।। २६१.
As long as there is a drona of clarified butter, let the wind bring the medicine; by offering this properly, one dispels all illusion.
प्रदेवो दासेन तिलान् हुत्वा कार्म्मणकृन्तनं । अभि त्वा पूर्व्वपीतये वषट़कारसमन्वितं ।। २६१.
Pradeva, having a servant offer sesame seeds, cuts off the effect of actions, with the formula 'Abhi tvā pūrvapītaye' accompanied by the vaṣaṭ sound.
वासकेध्मसहस्रन्तु हुतं युद्धे जयप्रदं । हस्त्यश्वपुरुषान् कुर्य्याद् बुधः पिष्टमयान् शुभान् ।। २६१.
A thousand bundles of fuel offered in battle brings victory; the wise should make auspicious figures of elephants, horses, and men out of flour.
परकीयानथोद्देश्य प्रधानपुरुषांस्तथा । सुस्विन्नान् पिष्टकवरान् क्षुरेणोत्कृत्य भागशः ।। २६१.
Then, for others and for the chief persons, having made well-cooked flour figures, cut them into portions with a razor.
अभि त्वा शूर णोनुमो मन्त्रेणानेन मन्त्रवित् । कृत्वा सर्षपतैलाक्तान् क्रोधेन जुहुयात्ततः ।। २६१.
O hero, the knower of mantras should recite this mantra over you; having anointed them with mustard oil, he should then offer them with intent.
एतत् कृत्वा बुघः कर्म्म संग्रामे जयमाप्नुयात् । गारुड़ं वामदेव्यञ्च रथन्तरबृहद्रथौ ।। २६१.
Having performed this act, a person attains victory in battle; the Garuda, Vamadeva, Rathantara, and Brihadratha chants should be used.
पुष्कर उवाच साम्नां विधानं कथितं वक्षअये चाथर्व्वणामथ । शान्तातीयं गणं हुत्वा शान्तिमाप्नोति मानवः ।। २६१.
Pushkara said: The procedure for the Samans has been described; now I will explain the Atharvan rites. By offering the Shantatiya group, a person attains peace.
भैषज्यञ्च गणं हुत्वा सर्व्वान्रोगान् व्यपोहति । त्रिसप्तीयं गणं हुत्वा सर्व्वपपैः प्रमुच्यते ।। २६१.
By offering the medicinal group, one removes all diseases; by offering the Trisaptiya group, one is freed from all sins.
क्कचिन्नाप्नोति च भयं हुत्वा चैवाभयङ्गणं । न क्कचिज्जायते राम गणं हुत्वा पराजितं ।। २६१.
Sometimes, by offering the Abhayanga group, one does not encounter fear; O Rama, by offering the group, one is never defeated.
आयुष्यञ्च गणं हुत्वा अपमृत्युं व्यपोहति । स्वस्तिमाप्नोति सर्व्वत्र हुत्वा स्वस्त्यनङ्गणं ।। २६१.
By offering the Ayushya group, one removes untimely death; by offering the Svastyana group, one attains well-being everywhere.
श्रेयसा योगमाप्नोति शर्म्मवर्म्मगणन्तथा । वास्तोष्पत्यगणं हुत्वा वास्तुदोषान् व्यपोहति ।। २६१.
By these, one attains union with excellence and the group of protective armor; by offering the Vāstoṣpatya group, one removes faults of the dwelling.
तथा रौद्रगणं हुत्वा सर्व्वान् दोषान् व्यषोहति । एतैर्दशगुणैर्होमो ह्यष्टादशसु शान्तिषु ।। २६१.
Likewise, by offering the Raudra group, one removes all faults; with these tenfold rites, the homa is performed in the eighteen Shantis.
वैष्णवी शान्तिरैन्द्री च व्राह्मी रौद्री तथैव च । वायव्या वारुणी चैव कौवेरी भार्गवी तथा ।। २६१.
The Vaishnavi Shanti, the Aindri, the Brahmi, and likewise the Raudri; also the Vayavi, Varuni, Kauveri, and Bhargavi.
प्राजापत्या तथा त्वाष्ट्री कौमारी वह्निदेवता । मारुद्गणा च गान्धारी शान्तिर्नैर्ऋतकी तथा ।। २६१.
The prājāpatya, the tvāṣṭrī, the kaumārī, the fire-deity, the hosts of the Maruts, the gāndhārī, the śānti, and likewise the nairṛtakī.
शान्तिराङ्गिरसी याम्या पार्थिवी सर्व्वकामदा । यस्त्वां मृत्युरिति ह्येतज्जप्तं मृत्युविनाशनं ।। २६१.
The śānti, the āṅgirasī, the yāmyā, the pārthivī, the fulfiller of all desires—whoever recites this as 'You are death,' indeed destroys death.
सुपर्णंस्त्वेति हुत्वा च भुजगैर्नैव बाध्यते । इन्द्रेण दत्तमित्येतत् सर्वकामकरम्भवेत् ।। २६१.
Having offered oblation with the mantra 'suparṇam,' one is not troubled by serpents; this, given by Indra, brings about the fulfillment of all desires.
इन्द्रेण दत्तमित्येतत् सर्वबाधाविनाशनं । इमा देवीति मन्त्रश्च सर्वशान्तिकरः परः ।। २६१.
This, given by Indra, destroys all afflictions; the mantra 'these are the goddesses' is supremely pacifying.
देवा मरुत इत्येतत् सर्वकामकरम्भवेत् । यमस्य लोकादित्येत्त् दुःस्वप्नशमनम्परं ।। २६१.
The mantra 'the gods, the Maruts' brings about the fulfillment of all desires; 'from the world of Yama' is especially effective for dispelling bad dreams.
इन्द्रश्च पञ्चबणिजेति१ पण्यलाभकरं परं । कामो मे वाजीति हुतं स्त्रीणां सौबाग्यवर्द्धनं ।। २६१.
'Indra and the five merchants' is supremely effective for gaining merchandise; 'May I have desire and strength,' when offered, increases the good fortune of women.
तुभ्यमेव जबीमन्नित्ययुतन्तु हुतम्भवेत् । अग्नेगोबिन्न इत्येतत्२ मेधावृद्धिकरम्परं ।। २६१.
'To you alone, O eater of offerings, may the oblation always be made'—this, when offered, brings increase of intellect; 'O Agni, knower of cows,' is supremely effective for the growth of wisdom.
ध्रुवं ध्रुवेणेति हुतं स्थानलाभकरं भवेत् । अलक्तजीवेति शुना कृषिलाभकरं भवेत् ।। २६१.
'Steadfast, with the steadfast,' when offered, brings attainment of position; 'May I live as red as lac,' with a dog, brings success in agriculture.
अहन्ते भग्न इत्येतत् भवेत्सौभाग्यवर्द्धनं । ये मे पाशास्तथाप्येतत् बन्धनान्मोक्षकारणं ।। २६१.
'I have broken you' brings increase of good fortune; 'These are my bonds' is the cause of release from bondage.
शपत्वहन्निति रिपून् नाशयेद्धोमजाप्यतः । त्वमुत्तममितीत्येतद्यशोबुद्धिविवर्द्धनं ।। २६१.
'I have struck down the oath-breaker' destroys enemies when recited in oblation; 'You are the highest,' increases fame and intelligence.
यथा मृगमतीत्येतत् स्त्रीणां सौभाग्यवर्द्धनं । येन चेहदिदञ्चैव गर्भलाभकरं भवेत् ।। २६१.
'As the deer goes,' increases the good fortune of women; 'By which here and this,' brings about the attainment of offspring.
वृहस्पतिर्न्नः परिपातु पथि स्वस्त्ययनं भवेत् । मुञअचामि त्वेति कथितमपमृत्युनिवारणं ।। २६१.
'May Bṛhaspati protect us,' brings well-being on the path; 'I release you,' as stated, averts untimely death.
