सर्व्वत्रेति परा शान्तिर्ज्ञेया प्रतिरथस्तथा । सूत संकाश्यपन्नित्यं प्रजाकामस्य कीर्त्तितं ।। २५९.
The supreme peace hymn is known as 'sarvatreti,' and likewise 'pratiratha'; O Sūta, the 'saṃkāśyapan' is always praised for one desiring offspring.
अहं स्द्रेति इत्येतद्वाग्मी भवति मानवः । न योनौ जायते विद्वान् जपन्रतीति रात्रिषु ।। २५९.
By reciting 'ahaṃ sdreti,' a man becomes eloquent; the wise, reciting 'ratīti' at night, are not born in the womb again.
रात्रिसुक्तं जपन्रात्रौ रात्रिं क्षेमी नयेन्नरः । कल्पयन्तीति च चजपन्नित्यं कृत्त्वारिनाशनं ।। २५९.
By reciting the Ratri Sukta at night, a man leads the night in safety; and by reciting it always, it is said, after performing the ritual for destroying enemies, he brings about security.
आयुष्यञ्चैव वर्च्चस्यं सूक्तं दाक्षायणं महत् । उत देवा इति जपेदामयघ्नं धृतव्रतः ।। २५९.
The great Dakshayana hymn, which grants long life and brilliance, should be recited by one steadfast in vows; and the 'Uta Deva' hymn is to be recited for the destruction of disease.
अयप्तग्ने जनित्येतज्जपेदग्निभये सति । अरण्यानीत्यरण्येषु जपेत्तद्बयनाशनं ।। २५९.
In times of fear from fire, one should recite 'Ayaptagne Janit'; and in the forests, one should recite 'Aranyani', for it removes fear there.
व्राह्मीमासाद्य सूक्ते द्वे ऋचं चब्राह्मीं शतावरीं । पृथगद्भिर्घृतैर्वाथ मेधां लक्ष्मीञ्च विन्दति ।। २५९.
Having approached the Brahmi plant, one should recite two hymns and the Brahmi Shatavari verse separately with offerings of ghee; thus, one attains intelligence and prosperity.
माम इत्यसपत्नघ्नं संग्रामं विजिगीषतः । ब्रह्मणोग्निः संविदानं गर्भमृत्युनिवारणं ।। २५९.
The 'Mama' hymn destroys rivals for one seeking victory in battle; the 'Brahmanogni Samvidana' hymn averts miscarriage and death in the womb.
अपैहीति जपेत्सूक्तं शुषिर्दुस्वप्ननाशनं । येनेदमिति वै जप्त्वा समाधिं विन्दते परं ।। २५९.
One should recite the 'Apaihi' hymn, which destroys bad dreams and suffering; by reciting 'Yenedam', one attains supreme concentration.
मयो भूर्व्वात इत्येतत् गवां स्वस्त्ययनं परं । शाम्वरीमिन्द्रजालं वा मायामेतेन वारयेत् ।। २५९.
The hymn 'Mayo Bhur Vata' is supremely auspicious for cattle; with the Shambhari hymn or with Indrajala, one wards off illusion and magic.
महीत्रीणामवरस्त्विति पथि स्वस्त्ययनं जपेत् । अग्नये बिद्विषन्नेवं जपेच्च रिपुनाशनं ।। २५९.
By reciting 'Mahitrinam Avaras' on the road, one gains auspiciousness; by reciting 'Agnaye Bidvishan', one destroys enemies.
वास्तोष्पतेन मन्त्रेण यजेत् गृहदेवताः । जपस्यैष विधिः प्रोक्तो हुते ज्ञेयो विशेषतः ।। २५९.
With the Vastu-pati mantra, one should worship the household deities; this is the prescribed method for recitation, especially to be known when making offerings.
होमान्ते दक्षिणा देयै पापशान्तिर्हुतेन तु । हुतं शाम्यति चान्नेन अन्नहेमप्रदानतः ।। २५९.
At the end of the homa, a gift should be given; by the offering, sin is pacified; the offering is appeased with food, and by giving food and gold.
विप्राशिषस्त्वमोघाः स्युषंहिःस्नानन्तु सर्वतः । सिद्धार्थका यवा धान्यं पयो दधि घृतं तथा ।। २५९.
The blessings of the Brahmins are unfailing; bathing everywhere is auspicious; Siddharthaka, barley, grains, milk, curd, and ghee as well.
क्षीरवृक्षास्तथेध्मन्तु हामा वै सर्वकामदाः । समिपः कण्टकिन्यश्च राजिका रुधिरं विषं ।। २५९.
Milk-bearing trees and fuel wood, these indeed grant all desires; nearby are thorny plants, mustard, blood, and poison.
अबिचारे तथा शैलं अशनं शक्तवः पथः । दधि भैक्ष्यं फलं मृलमृग्विधानमुदाहृतं ।। २५९.
In counter-magic, stone, food, weapons, and paths are used; curd, alms, fruit, and the prescribed method for animal sacrifice are mentioned.
पुष्कर उवाच यजुर्विधानं वक्ष्यामि भुक्तिमुक्तिप्रदं श्रृणु । ॐकारपूर्व्विका राम महाव्याहृतयो मता ।। २६०.
Pushkara said: I will explain the Yajurveda procedure, which grants enjoyment and liberation; listen. The great Vyahritis, preceded by Omkara, are considered essential, O Rama.
सर्व्वकल्मषनाशिन्यः सर्व्वकामप्रदास्तथा । आज्यहुतिसहस्रेण देवानाराधयेद्बुधः ।। २६०.
They destroy all sins and grant all desires; with a thousand offerings of clarified butter, the wise should worship the gods.
मनसः काङ्क्षितं राम मनसेप्सितकामदं । शान्तिकामो यवैः कुर्य्यात्तिलैः पापापनुत्तये ।। २६०.
O Rama, whatever is desired in the mind, this fulfills the mind's wishes; one seeking peace should use barley, and for the removal of sin, sesame seeds.
धान्यैः सिद्धार्थकैश्चैव सर्व्वकामकरैस्तथा । औदुम्बरीभिरिध्मामिः पशुकामस्य शस्यते ।। २६०.
With grains and Siddharthaka seeds, which grant all desires, and with udumbara wood as fuel, the ritual is recommended for one desiring cattle.
दध्ना चैवान्नकामस्य पथसा शान्तिमिच्छतः । अपामार्गसमिद्भिस्तु कामयन् कनकं बहु ।। २६०.
With curd for one desiring food, and with the path for one seeking peace; with apamarga twigs as fuel, one wishing for much gold should perform the rite.
कन्याकामो घृताक्तानि युग्मशो ग्रथितानि तु । जातीपुष्पाणि जुहुयाद्ग्रामार्थी तिलतण्डुलान् ।। २६०.
One desiring a maiden should offer, in pairs, jasmine flowers anointed with ghee; one seeking prosperity for a village should offer sesame and rice grains.
वश्यकर्मणि शाखोटवासापामार्गमेव च । विषासृङ्मिश्रसमिधो व्याधिघातस्य भार्गव ।। २६०.
For the purpose of subjugation, use the wood of śākhoṭa and apāmārga; for the destruction of disease, O Bhārgava, offer kindling mixed with poison and blood.
क्रुद्धस्तु जुहुयात्सम्यक् शत्रूणां वधकाम्यया । सर्व्वव्रीहिमयीं कृत्वा राज्ञः प्रतिकृतिं द्विज ।। २६०.
If angry, wishing for the destruction of enemies, one should properly offer an effigy of the king made entirely of various types of rice, O twice-born.
सहस्नशस्तु जुहुयाद्राजा वशगतो भवेत् । वस्त्रकामस्य पुष्पाणि दूर्व्वा व्याधिविनाशिनी ।। २६०.
One should offer a thousand times; then the king will come under control. For the desire of garments, offer flowers and dūrvā grass, which destroys disease.
ब्रह्मवर्च्चसकामस्य वासोग्रञ्च विधीयते । प्रत्यङ्गिरेषु जुहुयात्तुषकण्टकभस्मभिः ।। २६०.
For one desiring Brahmic radiance, a garment is prescribed; in the rites of Pratyangiras, one should offer with the ashes of tuṣakaṇṭaka.
विद्वेषणे च पक्ष्माणि काककौशिकयोस्तथा । कापिलञ्च घृतं हुत्वा तथा चन्द्रग्रहे द्विज ।। २६०.
For enmity, offer the eyelashes of the crow and the kauśika bird; also, having offered kapila ghee, do so during a lunar eclipse, O twice-born.
वचाचूर्णेन सम्पातात्समानीय च तां वचां । सहस्रमन्त्रितां भुक्त्वा मेधावी जायते नरः ।। २६०.
By bringing vacā root at the time of its fall and consuming it after reciting a thousand mantras, a man becomes intelligent.
एकादशाङ्गुलं शङ्कु लौहं खादिरमेव च। द्विषतो वधोसीति जपन्निखनेद्रिपुवेश्मनि ।। २६०.
An iron stake, eleven fingers long, or one of khadira wood, should be buried in the enemy's house while reciting the mantra for the destruction of foes.
उच्चाटनमिदं कर्म शत्रूणां कथितं तव । चक्षुष्पा इति जप्त्वा च विनष्टञ्चक्षुराप्नुयात् ।। २६०.
This act is called the expulsion of enemies, as told to you; by reciting 'cakṣuṣpā,' one who has lost sight regains vision.
उपयुञ्जत इत्येतदनुवाकन्तथान्नदं । तनूपाग्ने सदिति दूर्व्वां हुत्वार्त्तिवर्ज्जितः ।। २६०.
By applying the phrase 'upayuñjata' from the Anuvāka, and 'tanūpāgne sad,' offering dūrvā grass, one becomes free from disease.
