समुद्दिश्य महादेवं जीवेदब्दशतं सुखं । तच्चक्षुरित्यचा स्नात उपतिष्ठेद्दिवाकरं ।। २५९.
Dedicating to Mahādeva, one lives happily for a hundred years; having bathed, one should worship the sun with the 'taccakṣur' hymn.
उद्यन्तं मध्यागञ्चैव दीर्घमायुर्ज्जिजीविषुः । इन्द्रा सोमेति सूक्तन्तु कथितं शत्रुनाशनं ।। २५९.
One who wishes for long life should worship the rising and midday sun; the 'Indrā Someti' hymn is declared to destroy enemies.
यस्य लुप्तं व्रतं मोहाद्व्रात्यैर्वा संसृजेत्सह । उपोष्याज्यं स जुहुयात्त्वमग्ने व्रतपा इति ।। २५९.
One whose vow is lost through delusion or by outcastes should restore it; after fasting, he should offer ghee reciting 'You, Agni, are the protector of vows.'
आदित्येत्यृक् च सम्राजं जप्त्वा वादे जयी भवेत् । महीति च चतुष्केण मुच्यते महतो भयात् ।। २५९.
Reciting the 'Āditya' verse and the 'Samrāj' hymn, one becomes victorious in debate; by the fourfold 'Mahīti,' one is freed from great fear.
ऋचं जप्त्वा यदि ह्येतत् सर्व्वकामानवाप्नुयात् । द्वाचत्वारिंशतिं चैन्द्रं जप्त्वा नाशयते रिपून् ।। २५९.
If one recites this ṛc, indeed, he attains all desires; by reciting the Indra hymn forty-two times, he destroys his enemies.
वाचं महीति जप्त्वा च प्राप्नोत्यारोग्यमेव च । शन्नो भवेति द्वाभ्यान्तु भुक्त्वान्नं प्रथतः शुचिः ।। २५९.
By reciting 'vācaṃ mahi,' one obtains health; and by reciting 'śanno bhavatu' twice, after eating pure food, one becomes pure.
हृदयं पाणिना स्पृष्ट्वा व्याधिबिन्नाभिभूयते । उत्तभेदमिति स्नातो हुत्वा शत्रुं प्रमापयेत् ।। २५९.
Touching the heart with the hand, one overcomes diseases caused by internal disorders; by reciting 'uttabhedam,' after bathing and offering oblations, one defeats an enemy.
शन्नोग्न इति सूक्तेन हुतेनान्नमवाप्नुयात् । कन्या वारर्षिसूक्तेन दिग्दोषाद्विप्रमुच्यते ।। २५९.
By offering oblations with the hymn 'śannogna,' one obtains food; by the 'kanyā vārarṣi' hymn, one is freed from the faults of directions.
वाचो विदमिति त्वेतां जपन् वाचं समश्नुते । पवित्राणां पवित्रन्तु पावमान्येयृचो मताः ।। २५९.
By reciting 'vāco vidam,' one attains eloquence; the Pavamanī verses are regarded as the purest among purifying hymns.
वैखानसाऋचस्त्रिंशत्पवित्राः परमा मताः । ऋचो द्विषष्टिः प्रोक्ताश्च परस्वेत्यृषिसत्तम ।। २५९.
The Vaikhānasa tradition considers thirty Pavitra hymns as supreme; O best of seers, sixty-two ṛcs are declared as 'parasva.'
सर्व्वकल्मषनाशाय पावनाय शिवाय च । स्वादिष्टयेतिसूक्तानां सप्तषष्टिरुदाहृता ।। २५९.
For the destruction of all sins, for purification, and for auspiciousness, sixty-seven hymns beginning with 'svādiṣṭaye' are mentioned.
दशोत्तराण्यृचाञ्चैताः पावमान्यः शतानि षट्। एतज्जपंश्च जुह्वच्च घोरं मृत्युभयं जयेत् ।। २५९.
These Pavamanī hymns are one hundred and six in number; by reciting and offering oblations with them, one conquers the terrible fear of death.
आपोहिष्ठेति वारिस्थो जपेत्पापभयार्द्दने । प्रदेवन्नेति नियते जपेच्च मरुधन्वसु ।। २५९.
To dispel the fear of sin, one should recite 'āpohiṣṭha' near water; for wealth, one should regularly recite 'pradevanneti' at the Marudhanva.
प्राणान्तिके भये प्राप्ते क्षिप्रमायुस्तु विन्दति । प्रावेयाबित्यृचमेकां जपेच्च मनसा निशि ।। २५९.
When danger to life arises, one quickly finds relief; at night, one should mentally recite the single ṛc 'prāveyābhi.'
व्युष्टायामुदिते सृर्य्ये द्युते जयमवाप्नुयात् । मा प्रगामेति मूढश्च पन्थानं पथि विन्दति ।। २५९.
At sunrise, when the sun has risen, one attains victory in contests; the confused person, by reciting 'mā pragāma,' finds the right path.
क्षीणायुरिति मन्येत् यङ्कञ्चित् सुहृदं प्रियं । यक्तेयमिति तु रत्नातस्तस्य मूर्द्धानमालभेत् ।। २५९.
If one thinks a dear friend has a diminished lifespan, he should touch his head with the 'yakteyam' hymn from the Ratnātā collection.
सहस्रकृत्वः पञ्चाहं तेनायुर्विन्दते महत् । इदं मेध्येति जुहुयात् घृतं प्राज्ञः सहस्रशः ।। २५९.
By doing this for five days, a thousand times, one attains great longevity; the wise should offer ghee with the hymn 'idaṃ medhyam' a thousand times.
पशुकामो गवां गोष्ठे अर्थकामश्चतुष्पथे । वयः सुपर्ण इत्येतां जपन् वै विन्दते श्रियं ।। २५९.
Desiring cattle, one should recite in the cow-pen; desiring wealth, at the crossroads; by reciting 'vayaḥ suparṇa,' one obtains prosperity.
इविष्यन्तीयमब्यस्य सर्व्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते । तस्य रोगा विनश्यन्ति कायाग्निर्वर्द्धते तथा ।। २५९.
By reciting 'iviṣyantīyam,' one is freed from all sins; his diseases are destroyed, and his bodily fire increases.
या ओषधयः स्वस्त्ययनं सर्व्वव्याधिविनाशनं । वृहस्पते अतीत्येतद्वृष्टिकामः प्रयोजयेत् ।। २५९.
Those herbs which bring well-being and destroy all diseases—by reciting 'vṛhaspate atīti,' one seeking rain should employ it.
सर्व्वत्रेति परा शान्तिर्ज्ञेया प्रतिरथस्तथा । सूत संकाश्यपन्नित्यं प्रजाकामस्य कीर्त्तितं ।। २५९.
The supreme peace hymn is known as 'sarvatreti,' and likewise 'pratiratha'; O Sūta, the 'saṃkāśyapan' is always praised for one desiring offspring.
अहं स्द्रेति इत्येतद्वाग्मी भवति मानवः । न योनौ जायते विद्वान् जपन्रतीति रात्रिषु ।। २५९.
By reciting 'ahaṃ sdreti,' a man becomes eloquent; the wise, reciting 'ratīti' at night, are not born in the womb again.
रात्रिसुक्तं जपन्रात्रौ रात्रिं क्षेमी नयेन्नरः । कल्पयन्तीति च चजपन्नित्यं कृत्त्वारिनाशनं ।। २५९.
By reciting the Ratri Sukta at night, a man leads the night in safety; and by reciting it always, it is said, after performing the ritual for destroying enemies, he brings about security.
आयुष्यञ्चैव वर्च्चस्यं सूक्तं दाक्षायणं महत् । उत देवा इति जपेदामयघ्नं धृतव्रतः ।। २५९.
The great Dakshayana hymn, which grants long life and brilliance, should be recited by one steadfast in vows; and the 'Uta Deva' hymn is to be recited for the destruction of disease.
अयप्तग्ने जनित्येतज्जपेदग्निभये सति । अरण्यानीत्यरण्येषु जपेत्तद्बयनाशनं ।। २५९.
In times of fear from fire, one should recite 'Ayaptagne Janit'; and in the forests, one should recite 'Aranyani', for it removes fear there.
व्राह्मीमासाद्य सूक्ते द्वे ऋचं चब्राह्मीं शतावरीं । पृथगद्भिर्घृतैर्वाथ मेधां लक्ष्मीञ्च विन्दति ।। २५९.
Having approached the Brahmi plant, one should recite two hymns and the Brahmi Shatavari verse separately with offerings of ghee; thus, one attains intelligence and prosperity.
माम इत्यसपत्नघ्नं संग्रामं विजिगीषतः । ब्रह्मणोग्निः संविदानं गर्भमृत्युनिवारणं ।। २५९.
The 'Mama' hymn destroys rivals for one seeking victory in battle; the 'Brahmanogni Samvidana' hymn averts miscarriage and death in the womb.
अपैहीति जपेत्सूक्तं शुषिर्दुस्वप्ननाशनं । येनेदमिति वै जप्त्वा समाधिं विन्दते परं ।। २५९.
One should recite the 'Apaihi' hymn, which destroys bad dreams and suffering; by reciting 'Yenedam', one attains supreme concentration.
मयो भूर्व्वात इत्येतत् गवां स्वस्त्ययनं परं । शाम्वरीमिन्द्रजालं वा मायामेतेन वारयेत् ।। २५९.
The hymn 'Mayo Bhur Vata' is supremely auspicious for cattle; with the Shambhari hymn or with Indrajala, one wards off illusion and magic.
महीत्रीणामवरस्त्विति पथि स्वस्त्ययनं जपेत् । अग्नये बिद्विषन्नेवं जपेच्च रिपुनाशनं ।। २५९.
By reciting 'Mahitrinam Avaras' on the road, one gains auspiciousness; by reciting 'Agnaye Bidvishan', one destroys enemies.
